Well played Burberry
Business Week talks about how Burberry is going to ditch it’s signature plaid. I think this is a great idea, the plaid is overdone, attracted the wrong type of customer and of course, there are the knockoffs. This makes me more happy than their Fall Winter 2007 collection.
What do you think about Burberry ditching the plaid?

I own a F/W 07 black Burburry rain coat with a zip in wool lining. The Burberry name is woven into the black jaquard on the lining upper. The plaid is on the back of the collar, visible when it is flipped up. For me this is just the right amount of a tartan or logo fabric. There, but understated. And I wouldn’t have it any other way — I don’t much care to be a walking advertisement for any brand.
I personally don’t like having too much plaid on me, so I’m excited about what they’ll be releasing. Plaid was definately too easy to imitate.

I’m rather sorry Burberry’s ditching it’s signature plaid - it’s so but I do agree it was attracting the wrong type of customers. And ever since they moved production from England to Asia (or where ever they moved it) it isn’t the quite the same. Every Tom Dick Harriet and “Chas” has something Burberry and in many cases the word “knockoff” hovers. Practically everything has A Burberry plaid, even toothbrushes! I mean, come on! Still, maybe the (real) trenches will become rare collectors items…
