Toronto Alternative Fashion Week 2008
April 9 – 11, 2008

Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week hits the Distillery District April 9th through 11th to celebrate the fusion of over 120 artists from around the World in the third annual Toronto Alternative Arts & Fashion Week.
[FAT] takes fashion back to its grassroots, showcasing the raw, gritty element of self-expression through cloth, that so many of the great underground designers in Toronto are exploring.
Simply put- [FAT] is the heartbeat of Toronto’s independently ‘chic.’ It is the only outlet where the public and industry can experience their own vast artistic community in an open environment that celebrates fashion through the fusion of design, music, photography, installation, performance and video.
[FAT] holds its weight by exploring fashion as an underestimated social force.
“We’re stepping beyond passive observation and into an interactive way of relating to fashion,” says Vanja Vasic, the event’s founder, “It’s about inclusion. Acceptance. Integration. We’re knocking down boundaries and building connections and its really because the community is working together.”
“[FAT] is not only about showcasing seasonal trends. It’s not about who’s wearing what or who’s sitting in the front row,” she adds. “Fashion goes deeper for us. It communicates how we relate to the body, how we build an identity and how we understand culture. Fashion is the way we live, the way we express ourselves. Fashion is a philosophy.”
