The Summer Antiques Sale is not only for the serious and experienced collector, but it is the perfect introduction to quality antiques and collectibles for those who are just starting to collect. There is no other show that attracts such a high calibre roster of professional Dealers with an exceptional inventory of antiques. The Dealers set aside select pieces throughout the year specifically for the show at Sherway Gardens.
There are great finds for every room in the house with more than 10,000 antiques on display throughout Sherway Gardens at The Summer Antiques Sale including folk art from the Maritimes, restored mahogany dining room tables, white-washed cottage furniture, vintage timepieces, armoires from France, ancient coins, pine harvest tables, sideboards, blanket boxes, brass beds, pressed glass and estate jewelry.
Patrick Daradick, a collector of vintage tackle for over 20 years, will be offering free identification and appraisals at this year’s Summer Antiques Sale at Sherway Gardens on Friday August 8th and Saturday August 9th from 1pm – 3pm.
Patrick’s collection of Ontario made vintage tackle is considered to be one of the best in the world and will also be on display. To assist the public with Ontario made fishing lures Patrick has designed a non-profit website to help the public identify their lures. Ontario made lures are often very difficult to identify and value. Unlike U.S. lure companies there are no books to assist the public. VINTAGE FASHION
People in the market for vintage clothing will find a huge sales display of fabulously fashionable vintage clothing and accessories from some of Toronto’s top dealers at this year’s Summer Antiques Sale.
Renowned vendor Ian Drummond has been involved in vintage clothing since the early 1980’s. His collection has been used for film and television shoots and he has worked as an assistant costume designer on Hairspray and Cinderella Man. Ian was the wardrobe buyer for Chicago, which won an Oscar for costume design. Some pieces from his collection will be on sale.I Miss You, a vintage store in Toronto’s Parkdale area, offers high quality vintage clothing, accessories and jewelry, with a special focus on vintage designer labels, classic cocktail/eveningwear, and wearable runway inspired 60’s and 70’s fashions for today’s modern woman. Owner Julie Yoo has been collecting and selling vintage clothing as a hobby for the past 13 years and gleans some of her treasures from private appointments with collectors, auctions and estate sales.
HEIRLOOM CANOES
Robert von Bitter, owner of Heirloom Canoes in Peterborough, is an expert in antique and vintage canoes and specializes in finding vintage canoes for clients. Most of the canoes for sale at Heirloom Canoes were built in the first quarter of 20th century. (www.heirloomcanoes.com)
One of the rarest canoes offered at this year’s show is a Peterborough “courting canoe” that has tilting seats and removable thwart, so the man in the stern and the woman in the front could play footsies! It also has raised “torpedo” decks, the bow one even having a bow locker to hold a bottle of champagne!
