  • Tiffany Profit Drops, Cuts Forecast as Sales Fall (Update3)
    Nov. 26 (Bloomberg) — Tiffany & Co., the world’s second- largest luxury-jewelry retailer, said profit fell and cut its forecast as sales dropped for the first time in almost seven years amid the global financial crisis.

    Tiffany predicted full-year earnings of $2.30 to $2.50 a share, lower than the $2.82 to $2.92 it said in August, as revenue retreats as much as 2 percent.

    U.S. sales of makeup decreased 3% to reach $2.6 billion from January through Oct. 31 2008, compared with the same time period a year earlier, according to the latest numbers released today by market-research firm NPD Group. The numbers reflected a worsening of the sales decline that the industry had seen earlier in the year — U.S. makeup sales were down 2% from January through Sept. 30, NPD says.
