Hi Anita, I am desperately looking for a good professional suit that I will own for years. The kicker is that I am tall (5’11”) so most places do not carry styles long enough for my arms. The “tall girls” type of store are either way to big, crappy style or just plain old looking. Not too sure where to turn at this point… I’m willing to spend up to $500. Have any ideas?

Hi Nancy,

I love sourcing twitter for these types of questions. I’m 5’5′ so I don’t usually have problems with sizing for my height. My first answer to you would be ditch the malls and shops and go custom. There are many tailors and designers that can help in this regard. Fit will never be a problem. However, my little twitter friends have more options too.

I hope this helps out Nancy and gives you some ideas to start. Fredas sounds like a good first stop to me. Good luck in the hunt.

If you readers have other options, please leave a comment and help Nancy out.

  1. Although not for suits, a tall friend suggested the Gap to me (I’m 5’10”). I never fit Gap pants but recently tried their “long” line. They are soooo long, I bought a nice wide leg pair that I can wear with 3″ heels.

    • The Gap pants in long are very nice, especially the Modern Boot. You get what you pay for when it comes to quality.

  2. Try Theory and Hugo Boss, which you can buy at Holt Renfrew and online. If you ever go to Las Vegas you visit the Theory outlet store and Hugo Boss outlet store in Windsor, Ontario.

    Hello Anita,
I wanted to offer some advice for tall girl Nancy. The Canadian designers always make their runway samples longer for the models on stage. If she can wait until after fashion week I am sure she can find a suit in her price range. Just contact the designer and ask about their runway samples. But do it right away before they alter them.
