This season’s Alexander McQueen fall winter 2013 – 2014 collection was only 10 looks. Sarah Burton is pregnant so they scaled down the collection. When I saw the photos initially I was like, “WTF, there are only 10 looks” then I saw the video. My “WTF there are only 10 looks” turned into “Holy Shit what wondrous and magical 10 looks”.
This pearl encrusted Alexander McQueen fall winter 2013 – 2014 collection took influences from the Virgin Queen Elizabeth I, the Ballets Russes and ecclesiastical dress. The result is stunning costume but I have no idea what we’ll see in stores come the fall.
Alexander McQueen Fall Winter 2013 – 2014
I still think that Alexander McQueen is a little one trick pony these days. The line seems stagnant and stuck in a rut. I see a lot of the same silhouettes with different treatments season to season. That’s not to say the house doesn’t produce exquisite clothing, it’s does, I’m just kinda bored. That being said, this collection was hands down incredible.
Black Dragonfly Spine Lace Dress by Alexander McQueen
I’m not going to lie, I haven’t been paying much attention to McQueen after Alexander died. Not that Sarah Burton isn’t doing a bang up job, it’s just missing something for me. That being said, I do love this Dragonfly Spine Lace dress from the Resort 2013 collection.
Macarons and fashion are always mentioned together. I should be over everything related to macaron but I’m not. They are just too damn tasty to ignore. Flare and Nadège teamed up to create macaron based on shades from the fall winter 2012 – 2013 collections. You can see all 10 of the creations at Flare.com.
Toronto’s top macaron maker Nadège Nourian, of Nadège Patisserie, has created one-of-a-kind shades just for FLARE inspired by the season’s hottest hues. “This is one of the most challenging projects I’ve ever worked on,” shared Nourian while on set for our macaron photo shoot, “but it was incredibly fulfilling and so much fun to do.” See these delicious confections paired with top looks from the international runways for a sweet visual treat.
Flare Magazine x Nadège Macarons
Four of the ten custom marcaron created for the editorial are available for purchase at Nadège Patisserie for a limited time. The flavours are (top to bottom in above photo): Chocolate cherry, inspired by Givenchy , Grand Cru chocolate from Brazil, inspired by Balenciaga; Cotton candy, inspired by Stella McCartney and Rose, inspired by Alexander McQueen. At the time of writing, I have eaten the Stella McCartney macaron and it was delicious. I can’t wait to eat this box over the next couple days.
The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, will celebrate the late Alexander McQueen’s extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity. His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion. The exhibition will feature approximately one hundred ensembles and seventy accessories from Mr. McQueen’s prolific nineteen-year career. Drawn primarily from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, with some pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the “bumster” trouser, the kimono jacket, and the three-point “origami” frock coat will be on view. McQueen’s fashions often referenced the exaggerated silhouettes of the 1860s, 1880s, 1890s, and 1950s, but his technical ingenuity always imbued his designs with an innovative sensibility that kept him at the vanguard.
This video is a great overview of the collection to watch if you can’t make it in person.
Sarah Burton was influenced by The Ice Queen and her court for the Alexander McQueen fall winter 2011 – 2012 collection. As always, I want – I got focuses on the crazy shoes.
This season they continue with the platform base and takes some influence from fetish shoes with all the laces and stiletto heel. I’m liking the boots and they come in some different treatments like leather, croc and pony.
You see this shoe which will is the standout of the bunch with it’s own heel spike. I wonder if this shoe will actually be produced for retail. It’s a bit cyberpunk for the Ice Queen.
As always these shoes will be hot commodities. You can try your luck with the selection Holt Renfrew brings in or you can call your closest Alexander McQueen shop and get on the waiting list.
