Linda and Prada, hmm

This could be interesting. Linda and Naomi for Fall 2008.

Rumor has it that Prada is set to join in on the resurgence the 90s supermodel. Often touted for being on the forefront of trends Prada could follow in the foot steps of Chanel and Louis Vuitton by using a 90s supermodel. Prada campaign photographer Steven Meisel is shooting Linda Evangelista reportedly for the Prada Fall-Winter 2008.2009 campaign. A trusted source tells us not to get over excited as Linda Evangelista could also be shooting a Vogue Italia Cover. So what do you think …..about Linda Evangelista for Prada?

Prada is doing the auction thing again.

Prada Spring Summer 2008

Last season they auctioned off some beautiful stuff.

PRADA PROTOTYPES AUCTIONED ON LINE FOR CHARITY Exclusive pieces on prada.com from April 15 to May 6 Milan, April 10, 2008 – An auction of PRADA prototypes from the 2008 Spring/Summer collections gets underway on April 15 at 12.00 C.E.T. (Central European Time.)

The prototypes, ten unique pieces in total split between women’s clothes and
accessories, will be auctioned each Tuesday on a weekly basis. Those going on-line
will have seven days to get their favourite item: three trouser prototypes will be
available from April 15 at midday, one bag and two pairs of boots from April 22, the
third week offering four skirts.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the San Raffaele Foundation, one of the most
important Italian institutions concerned with medical research, clinical work and
training.

The auction offers bidders the chance to interact with Prada and other on-line users,
uploading their own photos and promoting their own Internet site. A graphic allows
one to track the history of bids made for each item.

THE LOTS
The prototypes are part of the work that went into the development of the
Spring/Summer 2008 collections, using unusual colours in an imaginative print
which conjures up an intense landscape of carnivorous flowers, dragons, hybrid
creatures and mysterious nymphs.

The ready-to-wear items are made in Gazar, a heavy organza, popular in Haute
Couture of the Fifties. The twenty colour per square printing process ensures a more
precise and richer result than with the more normal ten colour print.

The accessories, which reprise the same unusual themes are unique prototypes made
specifically for the auction, in plum and antique pink coloured doeskin, with
printing using a inkjet process, before finally being rubbed down to obtain a shiny
effect.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• The auction is only open to those who are 18 years of age or over.
• Orders can be placed from 217 countries around the world (details on
www.prada.com)
• In accordance with normal international commercial practice, the Prada
Group undertakes to expedite the products free of charge in as short a time
as possible.
• The auctions start each Tuesday at midday C.E.T. (Central European Time)
and finish the following Tuesday at the same time.

Miuccia demands you take a lunch break.

And I think that’s pretty damn cool, regardless of the rest of her rules.

Page Six has uncovered Prada’s New York EMPLOYEES rules.

An insider told Page Six the instructions came directly from Prada head Miuccia Prada, who is “hard-core” and “runs a tight ship.”

The e-mail declares: “Desk and work surfaces should be clean and uncluttered. Pictures, calendars, etc. should not be taped to cubicle/office walls. Pets may not be brought to the corporate office or the store. For corporate employees, all coats should be hung in the appropriate coatroom and not kept in offices or hung over cubicle walls. Window shades should be even (either completely up or completely down) throughout one side of the floor. Items may not be placed on the window sills … In addition, it is important to take a break from your workday and enjoy your lunch. Therefore, absent extenuating circumstances, lunch may not be eaten at your desk.” The memo ends with a warning that violators “may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.”

What does Barbara think?

Lanvin Ready to Wear - Fall Winter 2008 - 2009
I was reading the Buyers Report from WWD on the Fashion Spot and noticed that Barbara Atkin, vice president, fashion direction from Holt Renfrew talks about the collections from a retail perspective.

Milan

“Although Milan started as a somber season, it ended on a high note by offering a variety of beautiful and luxurious clothing with an infusion of newness. We saw a combination of the strict and subdued juxtaposed against a kaleidoscope of color, print and detail, all adding up to a decadent, luxurious bohemian style. We saw influences from the Seventies with long, lean silhouettes and covered-up clothes playing against the short and swinging. The ’separates’ dressing that had its roots in the Seventies is making a strong return. We will be looking for luxurious coats; cropped or shapely jackets with accented shoulders; soft, folkloric dresses, blouses and skirts; cardigans and sweater coats; skinny and cropped pants, and man-tailored suits. We will be slightly increasing our budget over last year, as we believe our customer will continue to come to us looking for the new. Our favorite collections out of Milan were Prada, Marni, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Jil Sander and Pucci.”

Paris

“Paris is the grand finale to the season, reconfirming its position as incubator of new ideas; from bold, confident power women at YSL, Akris and Balenciaga, to the soft romance of light, seasonless clothes in a kaleidoscope of prints and materials as seen at Dries Van Noten, Chloé, Jean Paul Gaultier and Nina Ricci. Key elements include strong-shouldered jackets, enveloping coats, easy knits, feminine dresses and blouses that will soften the masculine tailoring, and hemlines — whether long, short or asymmetric — that add newness. Paris is the city where we hunt for new names and this season we will buy Commuun, Sacai and To Long Nam. The collections we loved were YSL, Balenciaga, Akris, Dries Van Noten, Nina Ricci and Lanvin.”

Prada Spring 2008 James Jean lookbook

I got a look book on my weekend trip to the friendly neighbourhood Prada store. I love the illustrations of James Jean that is all over the collection. It turns out there is a whole line of accessories too. My trusty scanner and I got to work. Note these are large images for your enjoyment. Click the thumbnails.

Nathalie Atkinson from the National Post wrote and article on James Jean called Pure Jeanius. Another great article with a lot of images (many you have seen on I want - I got) is found at the comics212 site in a post called: PRADA IS JAMES JEAN: Comic artist covers spring collection.

This is the It bag of the season, even with all the calls about the end of it bags. NyMag has a post about getting your hands on the exclusive bag.

Designer Ads - Prada and Louis Vuitton

Prada’s trembled blossoms video looks much better on prada.com.

Louis Vuitton is advertising on tv now. Only in select countries.

I laughed a bit at the Prada video at first, but it is really well done and beautiful. I prefer it to the LV ad, which I find a little pretentious. It’s beautiful, but leaves me angry.

Vernice Flower Patent Sandal by Prada
Prada - Vernice Flower Patent Sandal

I wasn’t excited about Prada this season back in September. However, some of the pieces are growing on me. I really like the ad campaign too. This sandal is really cute.

Prada Fall Winter 2008 - Men’s Ready to Wear

I don’t normally follow the men’s collections too much, but I’ve decided to do something different. I don’t know what Miuccia is thinking this year, but I really don’t like men in miniskirts.
Prada Fall Winter 2008 - Men’s Ready to Wear

There are a bunch of looks that I really dislike, like the nude tops.

However, there is a winner; this beautiful red suit. I like the boots too, but not together.

Prada Womens Fall Winter 2007 Runway Show

It’s a little old but check out the Prada Womens Fall-Winter 2007. Pictures didn’t do this collection justice, it looks amazing on video. I love the soundtrack also.

I loved this collection when I first saw it. When it hit the stores I fell in love again.
