Happy New Year and Thank You

It’s been a crazy year at I want – I got. I plan on doing a 2008 roundup post but that is for later. I want – I got had over 500,000 visitors this year and it really blows my mind. Boxing Day traffic beat last years record. I especially want to thank my loyal repeat readers. I see you in my stats. I meet you in the street, at a party or the gym. I read your emails. Thank you so much for your support. Happy New Year Anita

Upgrade time

Hi folks. It’s time to upgrade. You might even see a new theme since I have no idea if this current one is compatible. Things might be wonky for a bit and I’ll update this post once I’m done. EDIT: Upgrade went fine. Looks like my theme still works too. Time to get the plugins working now.

I think I got those pesky hotlinkers

I think I’m winning the battle. Some of you regular readers have probably seen my occasional outbursts about hotlinking. It really burns me as I pay for this site to be up and running and they are basically thieves. The latest ones were going after my Heidi Klum pics. It was the last straw and I decided to do something about it. So now they served up an image that could have been a lot worse. I’m being very freaking polite about it, when I just want to serve up a Goatse image for them. Assholes. You can see it in action on this poor saps site. Loser, host your own image! If any of you feed readers out there don’t see images, please let me know by commenting in this post.

IE6 works, I have confirmation

Hi IE6 folk. If you’ve abandoned reading the blog through a browser you can now return. IE6 is displaying the blog again in it’s entirety. I checked it out at work and one of my readers emailed me to tell me that she can once again view my blog from work.

New Theme

I upgraded the site so I decided to change my old theme. It was giving my IE6 readers and issue and I was having a hard time fixing it. It’s much easier to scrap it and try again. Let me know what you think in the comments, especially you IE6 readers!

Yup, IE6 is still broken!

I thought I fixed it but I’m still hearing issues about IE6. And I’m gonna have a hell of a time fixing it considering that I don’t even run IE6 at home. Sigh. So it gonna be painful for you IE6 folk out there. Until, I figure out what stupid bullshit IE6 is complaining about I can only offer the following suggestions: 1. Start using firefox. Its been my browser of choice for many years now. Even through the terrible high CPU usage days. 2. Upgrade to IE7 3. Read my site through RSS, or email. You can subscribe to either feature at the top of the page on the right hand side. Click the RSS icon for the feed. Enter your email address to get posted sent via email. My apologies to you IE6 users.

I will return with new posts on Friday

Sorry folks. I forgot my camera cable and can’t get at any of my pictures from Montreal. I’ll return to regularly scheduled posting on Friday when I’m back in T.O. Highlights of the Montreal Trip so far 1. YSL at The Montreal Museum of Fine Art 2. Notre-Dame Basilica 3. Reborn clothing shop in Old Montreal 4. Chatting about fashion with Adrian 1 and 2 brought me to tears today. If you haven’t seen the YSL exhibit and you have the ability to, get off the computer and head there now. It closes on Sept 28, 2008. There was no photography allowed so I didn’t get any pictures. I’ll also return with commentary on New York Fashion Week which hasn’t been very interesting so far. I caught a glimpse of Jeremy Laing and it looks pretty cool. He’s playing with cutouts this season.

Going to Montreal for a few days

As you read this I’ll be writing away on Wifi on the train to Montreal. I’ll be connected and will probably post a bit about my mini vacation. I plan on checking out the vintage shops as I hear they are amazing. I also will be spending a lot of time walking around Old Montreal. Of course, I real reason I’m heading down is to see the YSL exhibit at the Museum of Fine Art and hang out with Adrian from Fashion Verbatim. Twitter will probably be the best way to get up to the minute ramblings about my Montreal trip. You can follow me here.

AnitaClarke.com

Hi, I decided it was time to start AnitaClarke.com. I will be transitioning my press page to this site as soon as I can figure out how to do it. 🙂 Anita Clarke, is my real name for all of you that know me as geekigirl. This is actually the first time I’ve outed myself. Some people have commented with my real name, but I’ve never been very public about it till now. On anitaclarke.com you can see all my press clippings, event photos and other mentions in one place. I still have to write a bio for myself, eeep!

del.icio.us fashion links borked

Sigh. I just noticed that my del.icio.us fashion links haven’t been appearing. It turns out that del.icio.us messed up their upgrade and this feature works intermittently at best. I’m looking at other options and testing one out now. We’ll see how it goes and the del.icio.us fashion links will be back, but maybe with a different name because I’ll have to ditch del.icio.us for this type of thing.

IE6 is working again somewhat

I hate IE6, it’s the bane of my existence. Thanks to crossbrowsertesting.com I was able to test out the site in IE6. It loads the page completely now. However you will not be able to use the Search, Archive or Categories feature above the ad section. Let me know if it works for you IE6 folk in the comments. Thanks

Just noticed IE was bonked, It’s not fixed

Hi, Sorry for you IE folks. The site was all messed up because I was modifying my template. IE has some HTML rendering quirks that Firefox motors through. I use Firefox primarily so I didn’t notice it till today at work. I’m working on it because it only works in IE7 right now. It should be fixed now. Please let me know if its still messed up.

No posts, I’m sorry

Hey Sorry about the lack of posts this early in the week. I’m still getting back to normal after this horrible weekend and I’ve been surrounded by ironing. I’ve got the ironing out the way and finally some clothes that have been in a bag for month are ready to wear again. I’ll post something once I return home from work. Thanks again dear reader for coming by.

Ditched ClickComments

So I finally ditched ClickComments. I’ve incorporated a little ranking widget instead. Hopefully there will be a little speed boost with the site because of this. Let me know if you feel a difference. So, the new voting! It’s still anonymous and no login required. The scale is 1 – 5 stars, with 1 = sucks rocks and 5 = rocking my world. So lets change these boring grey stars into yellow ones!

Thanks to my survey responders so far.

I decided I needed some demographics of my readers and I’m using a company called CrowdScience to help with that. If you happen to see either of these 2 invitations on the site, please complete the survey! It doesn’t take long, I swear. Special thanks to those that have participated already.

Drowning in email….

Hi I just wanted to say if you have emailed me and haven’t heard a reply yet, there is a good chance that I haven’t gotten to it yet. I do a lot of triage with email because I just don’t have enough hours in the day. A lot of stuff gets put on the “I’ll get to it one long weekend” pile. I’ll most likely reply to you, unless you’re like this idiot From: hussein [mailto:XXXXXX@hotmail.com] Sent: April 30, 2008 9:37 AM To: geekigirl Subject: I want – I got visitor submission hussein wrote: hi i want aske you if ther is glass for sex i can see everyone witeout clothe Like seriously, what the hell is this?

Click Comments are back for now.

I had to disable them today because their server issues were preventing my site from loading. It would be nice if the postreach people would update their blog when this kinda thing happens. I think I’ll be looking for a WordPress plugin that does something similar. I really don’t want site loading because of someone else’s server issues.
