Didn’t get a chance to attend Philip Sparks’ Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 show? Well they have produced a great runway video of the show that includes close ups of the outfits.
I’m an unabashed Philip Sparks fan so it’s pretty hard for him not to please me. I love the Philip Sparks sailor and what great models to represent him. The presentation format was excellent. I like the half runway half installation idea and it was a nice change up. The attention to detail is always excellent and the Burroughes Building once again served as a fantastic backdrop.
I was so happy to see my favourite model David C from Elmer. The last time I saw him I was at Elmer Olsen’s Christmas party. David was going to Europe for the men’s collections. I told him I hoped to see him on my computer screen. I nearly spewed coffee over my monitor when he turned up in the Alexander McQueen fall 2010 collection. Holy Shit, David walked McQueen. I later found out that David also walked for Emporio Armani. He showed me a picture of him and Giorgio Armani on his blackberry. It was so adorable.
Nella Bella Spring 2010 Handbags - Fiji (left), Vienna (right)
Last season I talked about Toronto based Nella Bella handbags on I want – I got. I posted about the Nella Bella Fall 2009 Handbag collection. I visited Tarek, Nella Bella owner in his studio to get a look at the Spring 2010 collection up close. Of course I had to take pictures with all the bags.
Nella Bella Spring 2010 Handbags - Riviera clutch
Spring 2010 focuses on neutrals like black, brown and creme. However there are spots of colour with the acrylic dipped cotton prints, bright canvas, and vibrant pink PU materials. All the bags come with different colour options. There are a lot of the classic shapes from previous seasons like the London bag and the popular Vancouver gym tote, which always gets Tarek smiling when he sees them on the street.
Nella Bella Spring 2010 Handbags - cabo (left), Rio (right)
Some of my favourite styles include the Riviera clutch which also can double as a full bag with straps, the Vienna satchel, the liquid metal looking Stockholm messenger and the Rio. I fell in love with Rio on first sight. It was solidified when I touched the soft fabric. It was similar to suede in texture. Tarek was watching me drool because he handed me the Rio sample in cream snake as I was leaving. The sample differs from the production version because of the black straps and magenta accents. The strap is white on the production handbags and the magenta accents were dropped.
Capezio is now carrying the line. The first two photos in the gallery contain the styles available for purchase there. Handbags range in price from $80 – $150.
Danier keeps stepping it up. They’ve created a more fashion forward lineup of jackets which really surprised and pleased me. I spent many years walking into The Path location wanting to buy a leather jacket and not seeing anything I would wear. Finally with Fall 2009, I filled my wardrobe with some leather staples from Danier. I love my classic black motorcycle jacket and leather leggings.
Fall was very dark and Spring 2010 at Danier is the opposite, full of colour. I’m craving the blue and the yellow leather jackets from Danier. A great addition now that I have the standard black; it’s time to play around a bit.
Fall merchandise is being cleared out of Danier stores right now. Expect to see the Spring 2010 items in the store by the end of the month.
Only Miss J. Alexander could have gotten me out of the house on Saturday battling the wind and rain. He was hosting a Celebrity Walk Off at Holt Renfrew which pitted some local celebs against each other on the runway. The winner of the celebs was Ciara Hunt from Hello Magazine. It was well deserved and super cut to see her children cheering her on. Then there was a contest where 10 members of the public were given and chance to impress Miss J. Auntie Fashion asked me to strut my stuff in the public contest but I was nervous and opted out. The only strutting I do is on my way to work with iPod in ear. I’m sure I’m a spectacle in the Financial District. I was wearing my hunters that day too. Sorry Auntie Fashion
The event was one of the best public event at Holts I’ve been to. Despite the weather it was packed in the shoe department. There was a great mix of people. Some people brought there families to check it out. Miss J was extremely funny and had everyone laughing and smiling the whole time.
We had our brief meeting and Miss J was super sweet. He took a little bit of time with everyone and made personal comments everyone’s book. I really like mine.

Rad Hourani may get called repetitive but I really enjoy what he does season to season. I just wish better video would come out of his shows. There is quite a lot of detail in the line but because everything is black it’s not often represented fully in photos.
I do love the androgyny of the collection. I enjoy looking through the photos and not being limited to considering only the women’s looks. That isn’t something that I really think of when looking at men’s and women’s clothing but with Rad it’s a little different.
