Chanel Les 4 Ombres

Chanel Les 4 Ombres

This week I got to preview the new eye shadow palette from Chanel at the Holt Renfrew Bloor Street. Chanel Les 4 Ombres takes inspiration from the classic Chanel tweed fabric. The colours for each eye shadow palette are literally based on thread colours from previous Chanel tweed combinations. There are six combinations available: Tissé Vénitien – A tweed that reveals the mysteries of Venice Tissé Mademoiselle – A tweed in the colours of dawn Tissé Cambon – A very feminine tweed that accentuates the style of Chanel Tissé Gabrielle – A tweed that borrows its grays from a stormy sky Tissé Vendôme – A sparkling tweed that reflects the City of Lights Tissé Riviera – A tweed with hints of Southern France All the colour combinations are beautiful but I love Tissé Cambon, Tissé Riviera, Tissé Vénitien and Tissé Gabrielle. Chanel had one of their amazing makeup artists on hand to test drive Tissé Vénitien on me. Great makeup artists have a way of making you feel amazing and excited about a product and …

I’m in the Toronto Life Stylebook Fall 2013 Edition

I have a little feature in the Fall 2013 Toronto Life Stylebook. They approached me to discuss my beauty routine and what new products I’m looking forward to this fall. I give shout outs to some of my favourite beauty brands and retailers: Lancome, Chanel, Essie, Givenchy, Marni, Balenciaga, Philosophy, Concepts Salon & Spa and the Miraj Hammam Spa at The Shangri-La Hotel. The most surprising thing about the feature was this illustration of me. I was completely stunned. If you remember, I hated the last illustration Toronto Life commissioned of me. Judit García-Talavera is an illustrator based in Barcelona, Spain. She is absolutely incredible and I’m not just saying that because she created a kick ass illustration of me. She’s worked with clients such as Marie Claire Spain, Telegraph’s Stella magazine, Bloomingdales, ELLE China, Teen Vogue, Gilt Group, ELLE Girl Japan, Harper’s Bazaar Spain, Stylesight, Rolling Stone Spain, Hennessy Cognac and Piaget. You can see all the rest of Judit’s work for the Fall 2013 Toronto Life Stylebook on her blog. The Toronto Life …

i got: Chanel Summer 2013 Inimitable Waterproof Mascara

There are so many lovely things in the Chanel Summer 2013 makeup collection. Chanel Nail polish is always a must have for me but I never really though about Chanel mascara. I didn’t even know Chanel had mascara until I saw an email about Le Volume de Chanel mascara a few months ago. My catlike curiosity eventually got to me and I used a Hudson’s Bay gift card to buy the pricy mascara in black. Le Volume de Chanel didn’t disappoint and I loved its forumla and brush. When I saw the mascara colours for the Chanel summer 2013 collection I lost my shit. They were bright in a way that I usually isn’t associated with Chanel. Yellow (Zest), lime (Lime Light), aqua (Aqua Blue) and blue (Blue Note) aren’t colours you see very often and not in such a pigmented way. I made my way down to the Chanel counter at Holt Renfrew to get a look at them in person. I knew that I would buy Blue Note as I’ve been constantly searching …

Les Exclusifs de CHANEL Collection – 1932

Silly me mixed up my dates and I missed the launch for the newest fragrance in the Les Exclusifs de Chanel collection. I was really excited about it because it would mean playtime at the beautiful Chanel fragrance bar in the Holt Renfrew Bloor Street store. Les Exclusifs de CHANEL collection is a modern take on the fragrances created by Ernest Beaux, Chanel’s original nose and Coco Chanel in the 20s and 30s. Chanel’s current nose, Jacques Polge launched the collection 2007 and has released more fragrances over the year. These fragrances all take inspiration from the history of the house and each one explores a singular theme. 1932 is the year that Chanel launched her first designer jewellery collection in her home. The Bijoux de Diamants collection had stars, comets, crescent moons and suns; all inspiration from the lights and signs that shine at night on the Champs-Élysées. In 2012, Jacques Polge creates the Bijoux de Diamants Collection inspired fragrance. 1932 includes top notes of Aldehydes, Bergamot, Neroli, middle notes of Carnation, Jasmine, Lilac, …

Chanel Haute Couture Spring Summer 2013

I raved about the Chanel Paris-Édimbourg Métiers d’Art Pre Fall 2013 show. It was a giant spectacle in a Scottish Castle and full of glorious knitwear. The Chanel Spring Summer 2013 Haute Couture show doesn’t have the grand scale of the Scottish Castle but takes us through a stroll through a garden. Best of all, Karl had a black model. (Yes, I pay attention). And she’s Canadian!!!. I love some Grace Mahary!. Doesn’t she look stunning? As with all Chanel show’s you need to see the video. Here’s the full collection Chanel always does a great job of capturing close ups and beauty shots. The “Enchanted Interlude” is very pretty. I love the makeup. I tracked down this Making of a Chanel Haute Couture dress from Spring Summer 2013. The work is detailed and meticulous. The only thing I didn’t like about the collection was the shoes. I can’t deal with the shape of the open toe. If they were closed , I’d be all over them. images: style.com

Chanel x Fashion’s Night Out Nail Polish

Chanel is creating another Fashion’s Night Out collection. Last year, Les Jeans de Chanel was only available in the US. I had a friend track them down for me. Luckily, Canadians will be able to purchase them at Chanel Bloor Street, Holt Renfrew Bloor Street and Holt Renfrew Vancouver this time around on September 6, 2012. Les Twin-Sets de Chanel is a three shade collection of lipstick and nail polish duos. I really like Provocation and Infidèle with Provocation being my favourite. I’ll be tracking those two down on September 6. images: fashionmagazine.com

i want: Chanel Fall 2012 Nail Polish

Chanel is one of my all time favourite nail polish brands. It looks great, applies easily and lasts long. When I saw Janine post a sneak peak at the Chanel Fall 2012 Makeup and Nail Polish collection I freaked out. The three new Chanel Nail colours are Frenzy (milky greige, with a hint of lavender), Suspicious (bright fuchsia red) and my favourite Vertigo (black with a shimmery red undertone). This beautiful trio will be hitting Chanel counters across the country on August 27, 2012. image: imabeautygeek.com

Neon Dotty Manicure

I embarked on my most ambitious nail journey this week, a 10 colour manicure. The idea came to me as I was staring at the new Essie collection, Poppi Razzi. I wanted to use all four of these neon shades but I would need to use the dreaded white polish to make the neon pop. I hummed and hawed over using the white base for about half an hour before deciding that I would do this mani properly. I started with two coats of MAC x Liberty London Vestral White. I was very careful with these coats. I took my time, minimized streaking and allowed each coat to dry. I then used two coats of Action for the overall base color. Initially, I was only going to use Camera, Lights and Bazooka for the dots but I realized I needed more variety. I turned to another neon polish from Essie called Funky Lime Light. I felt that some blue and green were essential. I don’t have a neon blue so I used Chanel’s Coco Blue …

New Year, New Nails

This is the first Nails post of 2012, yay! Shall we take a look at what I’ve been up to recently. After two great Shellac applications, I decided to try Gelish. They had different colours to CND and I was willing to give them a shot. My nails are on the bottom and have the tie dye effect. I loved the way they looked and the Gelish lasted a very long time. Removal was a huge bitch and my nail were splitting pretty badly. So much so that I don’t’ recommend Gelish at all. I purchased some nail polish from American brand Rescue Beauty Lounge. This yellow polish called Mellow Yellow went on very well. I can’t remember what polish I used for this but I think the thumb is YSL Midnight Blue and the digits are NARS I’m incorporating the glitter polish at lot to. I like putting it on the tips only.  I believe the thumb is YSL Midnight Blue and the digits are Butter London Blagger.  The glitter is Deborah Lippmann Boom …

Chanel Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

I had to do a double take when these Chanel Spring Summer 2012 ad campaign shots came out. What the hell was Joan Smalls doing in a Chanel ad. My head was exploding (this was a good thing in this situation). First, Indian girls in the Chanel Pre-Fall 2012 show and now Joan Smalls in the latest ad campaign. I like this trend. As for this ad campaign overall. Joan doesn’t have as many solo shots as Saskia. The photos are lovely but ultimately pretty boring. i got: Fall Winter 2011 – 2012 Nail Binge: NARS, Dior, Chanel

I’ve had some fun buying some of the Fall Winter 2011 – 2012 nail polish options. NARS NARS is one of my go to nail polish brands.  It has a beautiful, slick finish and with a nice brush.  The polish wears well for me too.    I got the entire Night Series collection (Night Rider, Night Porter, Night Flight, Night Breed) because I couldn’t choose. The Night Series collection is based on the iconic NARS Night Series Eyeshadows.  I also had to have the Fall 2011 colour, Galion. Chanel I got The Oracle to pick me up the Les Jeans de Chanel colours that were limited edition for Fashion Night Out 2011.  I had Melissa from Tips Nail Bar to incorporate them into a great blue gradient manicure because I couldn’t choose just one to wear.   I love Chanel nail polish it wears very well and has staying power. Dior I saw Apparat, the new limited edition Dior Nail Lacquer for Holiday 2011 on my new favourite beauty site Temptalia.  The photos on Temptalia looked …

Illusions d’ombres de Chanel

Illusions d’ombres is name of the new Fall Winter 2011 – 2012 makeup collection from Chanel. I only really concern myself with the nail polish but I loved the imagery that went a long with the product shots. There are 3 polishes for fall, Peridot, Quartz and Graphite. They will be available at Chanel counters beginning August 22, 2011. I’ve placed a lot of my metallic nail polishes on the back burner recently because their bright counterparts are more fun and a bit obnxious.  However, Chanel’s metallics are making me rethink that decision. Peridot is a green and gold combination. Graphic sounds really interesting with silver, gold and platinum combined together. Finally, Quartz is a bronze and pink mixture. images: courtesy of Chanel Canada

i want: Chanel J12 Chromatic Watches

So, Chanel PR has started to email me about all things Chanel. I’m not going to lie, my nerdy blogger self thinks this is pretty cool. The latest release was for the new Chanel J12 Chromatic watches. I normally go for bright colourful watches but it’s always good to have something that is a bit classic.  The J12 Chromatic watches are made from titanium ceramic which is a new highly scratch-resistant material almost that is almost hard as sapphire.  I really like the silvery grey finish on these watches.  It looks like liquid metal.  The perfect alternative to your standard black or silver.  There are a number of styles with varying amounts of diamonds or 18-karat white gold bezel, crown and hands. There are two size options, 33mm (top photo) and 38mm. I’ve only posted the women’s options but there is a men’s collection also. The Chanel J12 Chromatic commercial plays on that liquid metal look. Loading the player… images and video: courtesy of Chanel EDIT: Forgot the http://j12-chromatic.chanel.com link.  Enjoy the close up looks at the watches.  So …

Chanel Pop-Up Shop at Jeffrey, NYC

I love the Chanel Pop-up shop that is in the Jeffrey store in New York City. It features items from the Cruise 2011 collection. The installation recreates elements of Saint-Tropez where the show took place. You can watch the Chanel Cruise 2011 Collection on I want – I got. I posted the video earlier this year. It’s a beautiful scene but doesn’t come close to the spectacle of Spring Summer 2011. The shop is open from November 30 to January 4, 2010. images: WWD.com

Chanel Spring Summer 2011

The Chanel Spring Summer 2011 fashion show blew me away. I watched the video late Wednesday night and it almost brought a tear to my eye. There was an 80-piece orchestra who played a mix of music from Björk, the Verve and John “007” Barry. Take said orchestra and put them in the Grand Palais with a set inspired by the movie, Last Year at Marienbad. Chanel usually shows at the Grand Palais but this season they made use of the entire space for this incredibly expansive set. Karl tops himself again and again. Amazingly enough the clothes lived up to the set. This is a season of Chanel I approve of. Can we talk about the boots? I’m dying over them. Things I didn’t like: the sandals and the makeup. I’ve embedded the fashion show video for you all to see. It’s a spectacle, a wonderful fashion spectacle. It makes me giddy. With the talk of the fashion show going the way of the dodo, I’m glad to see that Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel’s …

Chanel Cruise 2011

Chanel Cruise 2011 Video

You saw the Remember Now Chanel Cruise 2011 video now see the video of the Cruise fashion show. What a spectacle it is. Perfect setting for a cruise collection fashion show.   I also enjoyed this short film focusing on the accessories and details of the collection.

Chanel Fall 2010 Cube Bag

i want: Chanel Fall 2010 – 2011 Ice Cube Handbags

I rediscovered the Chanel Fall 2010 – 2011 ice-cube bags because of a series called Object Fetish on the site Showstudio.com. Examining key pieces from next seasons international collections, Object Fetish trains obsessive attention onto next seasons not-so-obscure objects of desire – namely the choicest accessories from fashions favourite names, metaphorically unpicked through film and text. The series is quite good and I love the in-depth discussion around the objects. View the Object Fetish: Chanel Handbag video. Edit: I found the video on YouTube This show was so overwhelming with the glacier and the faux fur all over the place. I didn’t notice any of the accessories. The video really worked up my handbag lust. I love the idea of these bags. They make me laugh because they are so ridiculous, but at the same time I’d love to own one. I enjoy that combination of absurdity and lust. I can’t wait to see these in the stores. I learned some interesting facts from the Showstudio video about Chanel. Chanel is one of the very …
