- Isabel Marant: internet is “too fast and too fake”
In this week’s Grazia, we caught up with the lovely cult designer, Isabel Marant, at her Paris studio, just a fortnight before her show. As we chatted about everything from her countryside home (with no electricity btw) to her status as designer du jour, and the secret behind that elusive French chic, there was lots of great stuff that we just couldn’t fit into the magazine feature

- Justin Theroux Readying ‘Zoolander 2′ For Ben Stiller And Paramount: Where’s Owen? – Deadline.com
EXCLUSIVE: What's better than being really, really ridiculously good-looking like Zoolander? Being really, really ridiculously good-looking in the 2001 cult classic's sequel. Finally, Paramount and Ben Stiller are pulling together a PG-13 Zoolander 2 with Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2 writer Justin Theroux who'll also direct. I've learned that Ben and Justin are working on the script together, and Theroux is going to Fashion Week in Paris to "immerse himself on what is current in fashion". "It's got momentum," a studio source just told me. Everyone's hoping Owen Wilson co-stars again but no deal is set. The villain likely will be Jonah Hill who's in negotiations.

Alexander McQueen’s fashion label will live on despite the designer’s apparent suicide last week, it was announced this morning.
The decision to maintain the legacy of one of the most high-profile British designers will come as a huge boost to London Fashion Week which starts tomorrow.
PPR, the French luxury group with a controlling stake in the designer’s companies, said that it planned to build on the McQueen brand. François-Henri Pinault, its president, said: “The Alexander McQueen trademark will live on. This would be the best tribute that we could offer to him.”

- Behind the Scenes: The Product Specialist – On the Runway Blog – NYTimes.com
Once again, models are ready to strut and designers take their bows in the latest reenactment of the emperor’s new clothes. The back story of New York Fashion Week is far more interesting: an industry in turmoil, the drastic loss of local factories and suppliers, the manufacturing dominance of China and other countries, the gradual decline of technical expertise in the face of apparent consumer indifference about fit and quality. As usual, the story goes well beyond the limited world of runway collections.
Recently, over a meal at Ben’s deli on W. 38th Street, I spoke to Cindy Ferrara, a veteran production specialist, about her job and how the work has changed. The wingspan of her career is enormous. Now manager of product development and production at Danskin, a Moret Group brand, Ms. Ferrara first came to New York in the early 70s to buy fabrics for a shirt company she started as an Iowa college student.
- Donna Karan on the Current Fashion System: "We’re Killing Our Own Industry"
Last night, in honor of two new graduate degrees at Parsons which she helped initiate, Donna Karan sat down with FIT's Valerie Steele for a little chat before a sold-out audience in the school's auditorium. Karan, who has also been a major proponent of updating the fashion schedule, explained how she proposes the changes be made:

Red and green glasses are not much of a fashion statement – but this appears little obstacle for British fashion label Burberry, which is set to make history by broadcasting its upcoming catwalk show live in 3D.
The 150-year-old brand, which continues to defy the recession with soaring profits, has announced plans to stream its upcoming London Fashion Week show at a string of parties in New York, Paris, Dubai, Tokyo and Los Angeles.

- Fashion bloggers driving unique fashions online
Etsy — that online marketplace of handmade goods — has long been dominated by sales of felt owl tchotchkes. But dig a little deeper into the craft fair, and you’ll find independent designers selling unique made-to-order pieces, shipped to your door within a week.
It’s a strategy that drives the success of Montreal-based designer Angie Johnson. Since 2007, her Etsy shop, iheartnorwegianwood, has garnered 8,117 user “likes” for her cage skirts, harnesses, and colourful fringe necklaces.
