Inspired by “Anime”

As a former hardcore anime addict, I should be all over Biddell’s new collection, it’s influenced by anime. However, this invite, with it’s piss poor excuse for an anime character tells me something else. And really, couldn’t you have dressed the chick. Standard anime outfit, you even have 2 choices:
1. extremely short miniskirt and tank top revealing heaving breasts
2. schoolgirl uniform with the above mentioned short miniskirt.
Biddell at L’Oreal Fashion Week

How hardcore do you think I was? I was one of the founding members of York University’s Anime Club, YAMA. Ya, I set that club up at York with some other friends. I do know of a great illustrator who could help you out next time. I’m sure she could pull the anime look off better than this.

Unfortunately, Biddell’s show is at 2pm and I won’t see it. I have a day job and decided that fashion week doesn’t deserve my vacation time, so I’m attending the evening shows. My posts will be up on blogTO.com for all to see. Check the sidebar for my recent posts.

Thanks for the endorsement – though I think we can be a bit more forgiving of the artist as it appears she is under 16 – http://www.patternfactory.deviantart.com/

The work I produced at that age was pretty similar. I didn’t care for Anime films but I had my own big-eye stint that took some time to work through.

I think its interesting how the illustration appears to be unfinished. Almost as if it was done at the last minute. How Biddell!

I was just going to say the same thing about the “unfinished”–aka hastily assembled quality of this postcard. It’s amazing how Biddell gravitates towards PR people who have the same approach to life as he does!

Unfortunately, I think I’m missing his show as well because of work…see you guys at night, though.

Ahh, didn’t know she was 16. Doesn’t 100,000 allow you a little more leverage with artists?

I wondered that too… she was offering commissions for $15 on her deviantart site…

YOU STILL have time to change your mind….to miss a Biddell show is like missing live music…

Unless Biddell can either pay me to be there or do my project work, I really don’t have a choice to attend. I have spies, I’ll find out how it goes.

She is 17 and NOT related to Biddell. He was looking for an anime artist for his show and through various connections found Morgan.

Her paintings are being sold in a gallery in Vancouver (I was at the opening).

I don’t think it’s fair to judge an artist’s work on one sketch. Perhaps there was a reason she was asked to draw an anime figure with no clothes for the invite?

She has a large body of work (illustrations, paintings and photography) that you should look at before you get on your anime highhorse.

I made my comments about this particular piece. I had no idea who the artist was when I posted it or her connection to Biddell. I haven’t judged her whole body of work because I haven’t seen it. I made a comment on this particular sketch only and it’s relation or lack of to Biddell’s theme.
