i want: Space Invader Handbags

Lana, an I want – I got reader, emailed a link to the London, Ontario based fashion eshop, Dress911.com. I get sent a few links and sometimes they intrigue me and sometimes they don’t. The concept of our store is clothing that is both vintage inspired and presented by smaller designers. Our selection ranges from garden picnics to cocktail parties, styles from movie stars of yesteryear to the latest revived fashion on magazine covers, liberating indie designs to humble simplicity. Each piece is unique and is a statement. I was trolling the site which features a lot of vintage inspired clothing, when I noticed these great Space Invaders Handbags. I love! If I saw a Galaga version of the handbag, I would have freaked out with excitement.  Galaga is my favourite video game ever. images: dress911.com

IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things Part 3

I love wandering the aisles of The Interior Design Show floor scanning for things that catch my eye.  This year Paul and I avoided the products.  We were on a tight timeline and learned what to focus on from last year.  Sleek kitchen appliance and tiling are not things I’m too interested in or have use for on I want – I got.  This is the final post in my three part series called IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things. Andrew Richard Designs x Bustle – Designers pairing up with Designers for a range of outdoor furniture based on the Spring 2010 Collection. Smash – I loved the mismatch bookshelves with strategically placed lights Balance Glassworks – What a novel concept for display and space saving.  Note: This image was incorrectly tagged as Tsunami Glassworks in Part 2.  The correct image now displays so visit Part 2 to see. Slide – The glowing lamps attracted me. The lookbook has more goodies that I will scan and share soon You can view all the …

IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things Part 2

I love wandering the aisles of The Interior Design Show floor scanning for things that catch my eye. This year Paul and I avoided the products. We were on a tight timeline and learned what to focus on from last year. Sleek kitchen appliance and tiling are not things I’m too interested in or have use for on I want – I got. This is the second post in my three part series called IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things. Rado x Jasper Morrison – Beautiful watches. Love the sleek, black and minimal design. EDIT:  Jan 29, 2010 late night blogging.  Not good.  Wrong picture was attached originally.  Corrected picture is above. Tsunami Glassworks – It was the first thing I saw as my head peaked over the escalator stairs. It’s an attention grabber and reminds me of a large lava lamp minus the glass and fluid. Jamie Hayon – I was sad to miss his talk on Trade Day. I also left the party at Jonathan + Olivia party as he was …

IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things Part 1

I love wandering the aisles of The Interior Design Show floor scanning for things that catch my eye.  This year Paul and I avoided the products.  We were on a tight timeline and learned what to focus on from last year.  Sleek kitchen appliance and tiling are not things I’m too interested in or have use for on I want – I got.  This is the first post in my three part series called IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things. Foscarini x Diesel – I couldn’t believe any of these gorgeous fixtures were associated with Diesel. I’m impressed. Tahir Mahmood – This was my absolute favorite artist of the night. The wood mortal and pestles are so beautiful. The fact that Tahir can move from wood to ceramic lamps with ease is amazing. Cubeshops – I can’t believe I didn’t know this store is on Baldwin Street in Toronto. It’s super kawaii and I squealed like a little girl with every new discovery. Science & Sons – This radio totally tugged at the …

Hermès Spring 2010 Ad Campaign

Hermes Spring 2010 Ad Campaign

These two images from the Hermès Spring 2010 Ad Campaign are beautiful. Karlie Kloss amazes me. I remember when she first started and now she is the darling. She takes amazing pictures and she’s improved her runway walk a lot. She’s like Kate Moss in her domination of ad campaigns this season. images: fashiongonerogue.com, thefashionspot.com

Holt Renfrew Extreme Sport Windows

I think the new Holt Renfrew window display is very fitting for spring. “There was an abundance of sport references in the spring collections and designers like Alexander Wang, Balenciaga and Prada really led the way. Our windows capture this trend and exaggerate it with an ‘extreme’ theme’” says John Gerhardt, Holt Renfrew’s Creative Director. “We were also influenced by the photography of Sam Taylor-Wood who plays with ideas of gravity and weight. In our windows, the mannequins are in a state of suspension, defying gravity while participating in a variety of daring sports.” Systems of bungee cords were installed in each window to suspend the mannequins in place as they mountain bike, skateboard, surf, rock climb, repel and sky dive. All of the finishes and props echo the sport theme and the patterns of the fashions of the spring 2010 season. images: courtesy of Holt Renfrew

D&G Mens Fall 2010 Backstage

The kind people at Swide.com also emailed me some pictures of the backstage action at the D&G Fall 2010 fashion show. You can watch the full mens Fall 2010 collection from D&G on the website. I didn’t like this collection that much. The pants were very distracting. I didn’t like the oversized, multiple layers styling either.  However, the knits were lovely.

i want: Design + Conquer Jewellery

Someone from the Design + Conquer Jewellery twitter account send me a message alerting me to their line. I’m assuming it was the designer, but you never know these days. It took me a couple days to see the message because I don’t look at the I want – I got account for replies that often. I was pleasantly surprise and then drooling when I opened the Design + Conquer website. Morgan Mallett, the designer, has an extensive art education. She started Design + Conquer in 2008. The pieces in the picture are made out of flexible polymers which make the jewellery durable and light. The large neckpiece is available for custom order only.  Neck measurements are part of the transaction. It’s my favourite piece out of them all, what a conversation piece. Design + Conquer also partnered with Jessica Biffi for her Spring 2010 collection creating an exclusive pair of earrings. Design + Conquer Jewellery has an Etsy Store where you can buy the designs online and at Corktown Designs in the Distillery District …

Full Frontal Fashion: Habillees Pour L’Ete 2010

I just discovered this gem of a documentary. HABILLÉES POUR L’ÉTÉ 2010 (DRESSED UP FOR SUMMER 2010) covers the Spring 2010 collections in New York and Paris, with Mademoiselle Agnès taking a particular interest in spotlighting the next generation of designers. In New York, she finds much cause for excitement in the likes of Proenza Schouler, Joseph Altazurra, Jason Wu, Thakoon and several others. Then it’s on to Paris, where Mademoiselle Agnès sets herself the daunting task of attending as many runway shows as possible; not only the heavy hitters, but also the perennially individualistic and the relatively low-profile. I really love these videos and Mademoiselle Agnès is hilarious. I was intrigued by the smaller designers the documentary profiled. Bonus footage

Dolce & Gabbana Mens Fall 2010 Backstage

The kind people at Swide.com emailed me some pictures of the backstage action at the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2010 fashion show. I thought I should share some of my favourite shots. Some are just purely eye candy, very good eye candy. You can watch the full mens Fall 2010 collection from Dolce & Gabbana on the website. The whole collection felt very mobster. I liked the clothing and did not enjoy the presentation. It was information overload for me. I was amazed at the number of models that were cast for the show. The final walkout was insane. Here is a video that discusses some key looks from the Fall 2010 mens collection; providing information about material and techniques.

INOA by L’Oreal Professional Preview

I received a black bubble envelope in the mail. I open it up and it’s an invite to the launch of Inoa, L’Oreal Professionel’s new ammonia free hair colour. Normally, I pass on hair relaxed things but I’ve enjoyed other L’Oreal presentations I’ve been privy to, so why not. The package had CD. I figured it was your typical press kit and photo combo. It wasn’t. It was a single video in English and French versions. Video previews for an event are a first for me; I had to share.

RIP Phi

One of my favourite labels Phi is shutting down. Their amazing Spring 2010 collection never went into production. When I’m in Holt Renfrew I look at the final few pieces of Phi and mourn a little. It seemed they were just hitting their stride. For the last few seasons, Phi had been pumping out some drool worthy collections. Seeing this Phi Fall 2009 ad campaign by Steven Meisel prompted me to write this post. Not only did Phi have great clothing, I loved the ad campaigns. Phi Fall 2009 featured my fav, Sasha. Phi was one of the shows I saw in NYC at fashion week. It was my first viewing of the super popular models of Spring 2009 like Sasha P, Freja, Kinga, Irina, Hye, Suvi and Natasha. I was in awe of these people. It was then I learned that my instinct not to compare myself to these people was correct. They are freaks of nature (the a good way) and most people will never look like them. How can we forgot the …
