i got: Nicholas Kirkwood x Erdem Ankle Boots

Sneaky emails and reminder tweets enter my social space once the major discounts start hitting The Room at the Hudson’s Bay. It’s a good time to be hunting for bargains. It’s during these sales periods that I get strategic about things. It’s about desirability of the brand and price. During this magical time that ownership of the brands I lust for becomes attainable. The Room blessed me with an amazing Christopher Kane skirt. The Room has a great selection of shoes and the pickings are getting pretty slim by the time it’s 60% off plus an extra 40%. This shoe shopping experience was extra fun because I coerced my friend, Natalie into coming. There were a few choices of from my watch list of designers: Kirkwood, Sanderson, Olympia, Alaia, Atwood, Margiela. I tried on a few and stared wistfully at some wishing I had the same size feet as Stefania from Textstyles.ca. I wandered the racks several times with a pair of pretty loud Erdem x Nicholas Kirkwood ankle boots. They were a thick tweed …

Talking About My ‘Do in Worn Journal Issue 15

I’m in the current issue of Worn Journal. It’s been out since November but I’m only getting around to posting about it now. In June, I got an email from Serah-Marie asking if she could feature me in Worn’s hair issue. As you can imagine, I was a little perplexed at why I would be included. She explained that the piece would be feature on people with interesting hair styles. Accompanying the photos would be an interview with questions related to hair and identity. I said yes without question because it’s Worn Journal and it’s a great topic that my (lack of) hair could contribute to. The talented Lainee Dee did my makeup before I ventured to the Worn Journal offices to meet the photographer, Brittany Lucas. I brought a few different outfits to choose from for the shoot but the final decision was the Smythe Warbler Tribute Blazer, earring by Eliza Kozurno and a leather Tshirt by Danier. It was late July when this photo was taken and it was roasting outside. With the …

i want: Calligraffiti by Niels Shoe Meulman x United Nude

United Nude has another fun collaboration for sale. This time they teamed up with graffiti artist Niels Shoe Meulman. His specialty is Calligraffiti which combines calligraphy and graffiti. You can see some of Shoe’s (he goes by that name) work on his website. While graffiti is his main discipline he also produces sketches, photography and drawings. I love the neon green version of the Calligraffiti shoe but it comes in black and off-white for those that aren’t as adventurous. The laser cut leather upper spells out “Unruly Shoe” which is one of those charming details that I fawn all over. The heel is 5.1 inches and that includes the platform is 0.8 inch platform. You can buy the Calligraffiti Shoe on UnitedNude.com. They are $550.00 which is less than the press release quote of $750. images: unitednude.com

Harper’s Bazaar China – October 2012

The October 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar China had a beautiful Parisian themed editorial with model Miao Bin Si. For the 26th anniversary of the magazine they fly to Paris for this retro style editorial. I love everything about this editorial. The makeup is perfect and I love seeing the stylist create classic looks using current designers. MYKITA MYLON x Moncler Fall Winter 2012 – 2013

It come as no surprised to regular readers that I’m obsessed with everything Moncler. When MYKITA and Moncler teamed up in the spring I was excited. Two brands I really love coming together for a special collaboration. I’m also a sunglasses nut but the only thing preventing me from owning a pair is the cost. They are so expensive and not available in Canada! With shipping, duties and foreign exchange I’d be looking at around $1000. OUCH! I can’t justify it, even my Prada Baroque’s didn’t cost that much. Well, MYKITA MYLON x Moncler is back for the Fall Winter 2012 – 2013 season and I’m still obsessed. “From mountain peaks to the city streets” was the credo this time, and with model LIONEL we’re moving a bit more into the urban context. LIONEL is available in the following colour combinations: khaki with brown reflective lenses, brown with gold reflective lenses and black with silver reflective lenses – all three featuring mineral glass from traditional Italian manufacturer Barberini, boasting excellent durability and clarity of vision. …

Cougar Pillow Boot Quilty Pleasures

Cougar Pillow Boot Collection Fall Winter 2012

Cougar Boots had a mobile installation going around the city showing off the new Pillow Boot collection for the season. I stopped by the King and Brant intersection where they had set up shop one November day during lunch. The installation was there to show off the new Cougar Pillow boot styles to the public. Media was also invited to check out the new styles. I was really impressed with the new styles added to the Cougar Pillow Boot line. The reworked original Pillow Boot is back in different colourways like black, sienna, rust and tan. New styles are a bit more feminine with wedge heels and different textures. I love the tall Pillow Boot called Quilty Pleasures. They come in black and chestnut. They are calf Leather with quilted nylon. These were the boot I received from the collection courtesy of Cougar. I wore them yesterday because it was the first below -10 degrees day. I seriously forgot how cold it could be as we’ve been spoiled with mild winters for the last couple …

Ornate Expectations – How to Spend It Magazine

I’m in love with the Ornate Expectations editorial in FT.com’s How to Spend It magazine. It gets all baroque crazy with the season’s trend and lots of antiques. I’ve included my favourite shots from the editorial here but you can see the entire shoot Howtospendit.ft.com. It’s worth pursuing just for the information about all the items in each of the shots. View the complete Ornate Expectations editorial at How To Spend it Magazine. i want: Velocite and Rita Shearling Jackets by Acne

I dream of two brands when it comes to outerwear, Moncler and Acne. One day I will own one of these kick ass Acne shearlings. They are so bad ass. The magenta shearling is called the Velocite and it’s an oversized moto jacket. This is the one I most covet as it covers the waist and is super roomy. Doesn’t it look warm as all hell. The cropped shearling moto jacket is called Rita. It’s the more fitted shearling. It looks warm too but I like the coverage the Velocite offers. The Rita would be my second choice of Acne shearling. You can find Acne shearlings at Jonathan+Olivia and TNT in Toronto. images: acnestudios.com

Long Cat Scarf by BECKSÖNDERGAARD

i got: Long Cat Scarf by BECKSÖNDERGAARD

I received this lovely Long Cat Scarf by BECKSÖNDERGAARD from the Caroline and Matéo, owners of Canon Blanc during a little MasterCard Stylicity shopping trip. Check out an interview with them both for the MasterCard Stylicity Blog. It’s pretty obvious that as a cat lover I’d appreciate a scarf of a cat wearing a scarf. Very meta. This cotton scarf is lightweight but massive at about 1 ft x 2 ft. Normally, I only use light cotton scarves in the summer but I think the length of this BECKSÖNDERGAARD one will allow for multiple wrappings for warmth. BECKSÖNDERGAARD is a Danish accessory brand started in 2003 by Lis Beck and Anna Søndergaard. The line carries scarves with unique hand drawn prints, handbags, gloves and knits. The line is known for their eel skin leather accessories and the hand drawn prints. The scarves are hand made in India. BECKSÖNDERGAARD products are available in Toronto at Canon Blanc. i want: Dagger Print b tee by Primary

Primary has a really cute fall winter 2012 – 2013 collection. I love the black and chartreuse Dagger Print b tee. Make a statement in our dagger print b tee with our fall signature chartreuse hue that curls out on the sides. A powerful office look with a fitted black skirt, or an easy fall blouse option paired with a pant. images: primaryny.com

Perfecto Mag #style #fw2012 #Toronto

Perfecto Mag #style #fw2012 #Toronto

It was an absolute pleasure to participate in the Fall Winter 2012 Perfecto Mag Street Style video. I’ve been dying for it to come out and here it is. It’s amazing how it all came together. There was hair and makeup, styling, still shots and video clips. Most of the clothing from the video is my own. I’ve taken some screengrabs to break it down. 80% of the time I’m wearing some kind of Prada sunglasses. Here I’m sporting the Minimal Baroque. Ahh the pants, a random Versace x H&M find. They look great on camera. One of my favourite clutches bought from my favourite (now closed) stores, Chasse Gardee. I can’t remember where I bought the ring, probably Obsessions. The Hermès bracelet is paired with one from Lia Sophia (courtesy of Lia Sophia). Nails are gold by Essie. The shoes are my replacement Camilla Skovgaard’s. They look really great in the video. I was standing on a small brick wall in the Front and Church intersection at the time. It was funny shooting there …

Holt Renfrew Fall Winter 2012

TFW Spring Summer 2013 – Holt Renfrew

The tile of this post is a bit of a misnomer because Holt Renfrew didn’t show any looks from the spring summer 2013 season. Instead they opted for a showcase of merchandise Canadian and international that is available in stores now. I don’t have much to say about in general since these clothes originally went down the catwalk in March. “Tonight we’re proud to present a special take on ‘Canadian Catwalk’ — celebrating Holt Renfrew as the destination for those who love fashion”, said Alix Box, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Holt Renfrew. “Our runway showcases this unique moment in our 175 year history with an inspiring collection of contemporary and designer fashions to wear right now.”(source: Press Release) Holts opted to hold a breakfast fashion show that showcased their Canadian designer’s spring summer 2013 collections. I missed this cause it was too early in the morning, ha ha. The show had about 65 looks and they had all the best models ripping through those looks. It didn’t seem like a long …

Mulberry, Spinning a Yarn

This Mulberry documentary on the women who hand knit the chunky wool pieces from the Mulberry Autumn Winter 2012 collection is fashion porn. What a brilliant little film that takes you into the lives of those that make the clothing and their specialized skills. I love that Mulberry uses traditional British crafts. I’m now obsessed with getting myself a Mulberry sweater. Mulberry’s short documentary ‘Spinning a Yarn’ focuses on Margaret and Valerie – two of the women responsible for hand-knitting the thick, sheep’s wool pieces from the Mulberry Autumn Winter 2012 Catwalk Collection. Margaret and Valerie, knitting veterans with 70 years experience under her needles, speak about how they got into knitting, and what it means to them. Both women knit for Eribé, the Scottish knitwear design house who helped Mulberry find the perfect knitters for the complex and intricate pattern of its designs. images: mulberry.com

I’m a Moon Apparel Ambassador + 20% off the Ottoman Dress

This seems to be the year of starring in ad campaigns for me which is pretty freaking awesome. Earlier in the spring, I was in the MasterCard Stylicity campaign and now for fall its Moon Apparel. They have gathered some of their favourite Canadian bloggers to show how we incorporate Moon Apparel into our wardrobes. Like the Stylicity campaign, this is a paid gig. Gotta love feeling like a working model 🙂 In celebration of individual street style, MOON Apparel has partnered with 10 Canadian fashion bloggers in five cities across the country. The bloggers were specially selected by Mimran Group Inc. to become members of an ambassador program set to launch October 8th 2012. The bloggers were challenged to bring their best fashion flair forward by integrating their individual style with clothing pieces from the fall 2012 MOON collection and accessories from their existing wardrobe to create seasonal fashion looks. Captured on the streets of their cities, the bloggers turned the lenses on themselves to shoot their looks. Each ambassador will post their favourite …

i want: A Biker Jacket by Sacai

Sacai by Chitose Abe is a favourite in I want – I got land. She has such a fantastic eye and uncanny ability to merge polar opposite styles together. These are dream clothes and she’s created my dream Biker Jacket. Cowhide biker jacket, long zips sleeves, three zip pockets, one flap pocket, belt with adjustable buckle, button tab on shoulders, closure by asymmetric zip. Taupe and black lining in cupro, wool and polyester fixed thanks to snap buttons, long sleeves, frill on front and bottom. I love the convertable nature of this jacket. Remove the frill if you want something simple and add it when the time is right. You can see it here on the runway in stunning white. The price however is the downside at $4500 from Colette. Holt Renfrew Bloor Street carries some Sacai pieces but I haven’t looked around lately to see if this was one of them. images: colette.fr

Herringbone Biker Jacket by Mr. Gentleman

i want: Herringbone Biker Jacket by Mr. Gentleman

One of my twitter friends let me know about these amazing Herringbone Biker Jacket by Japanese brand, Mr. Gentleman. It’s menswear and I’m in love. Mr. Gentleman is a menswear line based out of Japan. Designers, Takeshi Osumi (PHENOMENON) and Yuichi Yoshii (THE CONTEMPORARY FIX) teamed up to create the brand whose concept is basic menswear. The jacket retails for Â¥68,250 or about $900CDN. It’s sold out on The Contemporaryfix.com site which doesn’t really matter much to anyone outside of Japan because they don’t deliver internationally. I have to find my hands on some kind of reasonable facsimile or get it done custom. images: Contemporaryfix.com

Muttonhead Fall Winter 2012 – 2013

Muttonhead is a Toronto based label that creates unisex sportswear using natural and organic fabrics manufactured in Toronto. I think the Muttonhead fall winter 2012 – 2013 lookbook and video are very clever this season. The corresponding video for the fall winter 2012 – 2013 collection is a very twisted in a fun way.

Smythe Fall 2012 – 2013 Videos

Smythe celebrates the fall 2012 collection with these great campaign videos. I love the rough and tumble outdoorsy women contrasted with the feminine outfits and beautiful silhouettes of the Smythe jackets. Smythe celebrates Fall 2012 with this film created by Toronto creative agency Open, directed by Christina Hodnet (Sons & Daughters) and with music by Apollo.

A Fall – Winter 2012 Hair Trends Video by Hair on the Avenue

Hair on the Avenue recently created a video showcasing the hair trends for the fall winter 2012 season. They called the film Anastasi. Toronto salon, Hair on the Avenue presents a short fashion film showcasing Fall/Winter 2012 trends in hair with a focus on four looks: tousled, atomic buns, fringe and braids. A film by Noam Kroll. i want: Arien by Dr Martens

I really want a pair of Church’s shoes but I came across these Dr Martens that I could equally love. The Arien style is part of the Creeper collection with a pointed toe and low profile Airwair sole. They are sturdy looking too and would make a nice seasonal substitute for my Rokin derby shoes which can’t handle the winter. The pink Arien’s are pretty sweet too and add a fun, quirky twist to the shoe. They are $149 available online or at the Queen Street store. images: drmartenscanada.ca
