Givenchy Fall Winter 2010 - 2011 Ad Campaign

Givenchy Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Ad Campaign

The Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 ad campaign from Givenchy is totally amazing. I love the colour and composition. The cast of models is what makes this so much fun. Yay for the diverse group.  Of course I’m happy because Mariacarla Boscono is making an appearance too. Complicit looks, and the promise of a kiss between two women: an ambiguous mix of masculine and feminine looks against hues of red, blue, white, grey and beige: the Givenchy campaign for F-W 2010-2011, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot in Paris. Sophisticated images against a provocative background. In the forefront, the collection designed by Riccardo Tisci. What has people talking — and caused the images to make the rounds of the web even before the campaign has been officially published — is the presence of Lea T: ex-assistant of Tisci, currently a student of veterinary medicine, ex-model and transexual. Tisci wanted to use her “for her fragile appearance and her aristocratic air.” Together with Lea T are the models Maria Carla Boscono — a close friend …

geekiviews: Kushyfoot Fishnet Tights, Ultra Low Cut Foot Covers and Flats-to-Go

geekiviews: Kushyfoot Fishnet Tights, Ultra Low Cut Foot Covers and Flats-to-Go

Brittany from Lipton Publicity send me some samples from a company called Kushyfoot. They create tights and hosiery based on reflexology. The unique massaging sole relieves tension and discomfort in achy feet—and stress and fatigue throughout the entire body. Kushyfoot has the perfect sock for evey shoe in your closet, from foot covers and toe covers to trouser socks and sheer knee highs plus sports socks and tights. Check out our shoe-to-sock selector to get started finding the right sock for even your most uncomfortable shoe.(source) I was skeptical but I said yes to the pitch. I received a huge media kit and some samples of the Kushyfoot Fishnet Tights, Ultra Low Cut Foot Covers and Flats to Go. It took me only two wears of both the foot covers and fishnets to become a fan of their comfort. In addition to dress shoes and heels, the foot covers were a perfect compliment to my pink Converse. The low-cut covers were low enough not to be seen and stayed in place unlike others I’ve tried. …

G-Shock Mini Spring Summer 2010

G-Shock and G-Shock Mini Spring Summer 2010

There are a few items I associate with my youth: Neon, Oakleys, Converse and G-Shock watches. I loved my old G-Shock watch, it was a man’s version but I didn’t care. I loved it’s chunkiness and digital display. I think women’s watches are a bit to delicate; I need the feeling of the huge watch on my arm. I’ve been slowly acquiring these old artifacts of youth and now that these G-Shocks come in bright colours I think I’m going to have to buy in again. Casio created the G-Shock Mini for women. They feature the same G-Shock style in smaller size for women’s proportions.  They are cute too but I love all the bells and whistles that come with the men’s G-Shock. You can find G-Shock watches in Toronto at The Bay, Livestock, Solestop, Wal-mart, Sears and Little Burgundy. You can find G-Shock watches online at Zappos, Bloomingdales and Karmaloop. images: courtesy of  Casio

Lanvin Bridal Spring Summer 2010

Lanvin Bridal Spring Summer 2010

Leave it to Lanvin to make bridal I like. I was trolling Net-a-Porter and saw items from the bridal line that I’ve heard lots about but never have seen until now. I’m a big fan of the dresses on the right in the images. The short ruffled one is my absolute favourite. What a fun dress to get married in and you wouldn’t even have to change for the reception. After the wedding, dye it another colour and you have a dress you can wear at other occasions. images: net-a-porter.com

Summer Entertaining with Bombay Sapphire on top of 533 Richmond Street West

Food and drink based events make me excited. They have introduced me to new new scotchs, beers and vodkas. Last year, I attended a Bombay Sapphire food and drink pairing event in Rosedale. It combined education about summer entertaining and a voyeuristic peak into the former home of Ted Rogers. For this year’s event, Bombay moved the venue to the penthouse of 533 Richmond Street West. Merlin Griffiths, Master Mixologist and Bombay Sapphire Global Brand Ambassador was back to show us new drinks and celebrity BBQ master, Chef Rob Rainford. The penthouse of 533 Richmond Street West is pretty stunning. It has the whole rooftop as a terrace. The views are spectacular and probably will stay that way for a few years as everything is pretty much developed around it. The unit itself has two levels and an additional balcony on the first floor. Chef Rob Rainford created some really tasty dishes for us. It wasn’t vegetarian friendly for the most part but the SAPPHIRE Salsa Fresca and the Honey Dew Melon Soup were delicious. …

I want – I got goes to the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival – Behind the Lens Tour

I went on the Heineken Behind the Lens Tour which is a guided tour of Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival exhibits. It was a fun way to see more exhibits at the festival in a group setting. Join us each Saturday afternoon in May for the Heineken Behind the Lens Tour, an exclusive interactive tour of Scotiabank CONTACT. Go behind the scenes with top photographers and other culture mavens as they share curated insights on fascinating photography from an insider’s vantage point. Each tour, located in one of Toronto’s unique neighborhoods, will end at a local watering hole for discussion, snacks and the opportunity to enjoy a cold Heineken. I chose the City Centre tour which took us to the AGO for Barbara Kruger’s Untitled (It), U of Toronto Arts Centre for The Brothel Without Walls and Probing McLuhan, the ROM for Creative Commons and the Boss Store for Glen Baxter. Barbara Kruger’s Untitled (It) At this stop in the tour we had one of the curators talk about various aspects of the installation. This piece …

MINI Dealership by Raw Design

Regular readers know about my adventures at the Toronto Autoshow at The MINI Beachcomber Concept booth. I was happy to attend a party for the opening of the new MINI dealership in the east end of the city.  The corner at Broadview and Eastern has changed a lot since my east end hanging out days. There is a gorgeous loft building right across from the MINI dealership. The party was a bit of a weird experience for me, no fashion people.  It was a lot of MINI owners and their partners sprinkled with staff and architect friends. It’s beautiful. It immediately caught my eye as I was walking down Broadview. It’s a building obsessed with right angles and bright colours.  The masters behind the design is Toronto based Raw Design. They are also behind another interesting development on College Street, The Cube Lofts. The building has the capabilities to have a green roof.  There is also a rainwater holding tank for sprinkler use and solar panels for hot water use. The building is just fun …

(untitled) by Maison Martin Margiela

(untitled) by Maison Martin Margiela – Video

Previously I posted about the newly release fragrance called (untitled) by Maison Martin Margiela. The scent is, as Martin wished, a ‘green flash’ – an olfactory equivalent and translation of the blank canvas and cleansing visual signature ‘white’ of Margiela. It is at once, clean, fresh and astringent, eschewing the floral hallmarks of contemporary perfumes and harking back to 1970’s trends, such as Chanel’s Nº19 There is now a short video created for the fragrance. (untitled) scents * Top Notes: Galbanum essence, Box green, Bitter orange blossom absolute * Middle Notes: Lentiscus resinoid, Jasmine, Galbanum resinoid * Base notes: Musk, Cedar, Incense resinoid The blog Coute Que Coute has an interesting post about his adventures at MMM HQ for the launch of (untitled).

The parachute dress comes complete with authentic raw cotton calico bag. I’m totally smitten with the Parachute Short Dress by All Saints. I love the volume of the skirt and the delicate neckline contrasting with the strings. images: us.allsaints.com

Rupert Sanderson x Aida

Rupert Sanderson x Aida

Rupert Sanderson created shoes for the cast of Verdi’s Aida at the Royal Opera in London. I love seeing fashion and costume design converge. It’s such a perfect fit. Rupert Sanderson has designed the shoes for a cast of over 200 working alongside illustrious young costume designer, Moritz Junge. The vision for the production is bold: Egypt is set aside for an unnamed post-apocalyptic tribal landscape where everything is very ‘brought-down’ and distressed. This has given Rupert great scope for designing an edgy, deconstructed collection of shoes. Boots will be worn out – Rupert is literally burying them in his back garden for two months to allow the mud and grit to do its worst. Sandals will be simple, using frayed materials with raw edges and a neutral or earthy colour palette. And against this ragged aesthetic, the bejeweled slippers and platform wedge sandals designed for the princess Amneris stand out like diamonds on a beach of pebbles. On collaborating with The Royal Opera, Rupert Sanderson says: The opportunity to delve into The Royal Opera’s …

Jenny Bird Pouchettes

i want: Jenny Bird Pouchettes

I saw the Jenny Bird Pouchettes at Holt Renfrew on the weekend. I have that bucket handbag preoccupation that also includes small cross body bags. There is a trend moving to smaller bags and I see a lot of cute ones like this around. Holts Renfrew is carrying the following combos: The black with stud, nude with grommets and Leopard with grommet. The Leopard style is exclusive to Holts. The handbag retails for $250 CAD.

Complexgeometries – Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

Complexgeometries Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

Yes, the Complexgeometries Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 looks are out. I’m always excited to see what Clayton comes up with season to season. I’m a big fan and I’m enjoying watching the evolution of shapes and fabrics. Fall 2010 looks great and I’m liking the sheer layers.  I love the grey tank wrap (middle look top photo) and I can see it easily being the next complex piece in my wardrobe. images: complexgeometries.com
