Depeche Mode: ‘Enjoy the Silence’

June 2013 – Secret Garden – Versailles

The Château de Versailles, emblem of Dior’s tradition, hosts a new tale which brings to life the Dior Fall 2013 collection. The chateau and its park abound with well-kept secrets. The heart of the royal land conceals an extraordinary world of poetry and color: in the depth of its mysterious woods a secret garden blooms out of sight, inhabited by flower-women. From the Grand Trianon to the enchanted forest, Versailles becomes the picturesque backdrop of a dreamlike tale.

i want: Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II

Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II
Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II

I was in Bay Bloor radio looking for some spare earbud covers but somehow ended up getting a demo of the Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II. My earbuds were sold out but I started talking to the Sale Associate about the Beats Pill, a portable speaker. The wasn’t sold on Beats but mentioned that Bose has the best portable speaker in the business right now. I was intrigued so it was demo time.

The speaker connect to devices wirelessly via Bluetooth which makes it available for use by any Bluetooth enabled device. A major plus for those that love their iPhone upgrades and the inevitable change in hardware that makes all peripherals obsolete. I connected my iPhone to the Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II and started pumping out some Lucy Pearl. Bay Bloor Radio was filled with the sweet sounds of “Don’t Mess With My Man”. There was power and clarity in this portable speaker. I was really impressed because I’ve never heard a small portable speaker with such huge sound. It’s only 3 pounds and has an integrated cover (which comes in Nylon or Leather). The Rechargeable lithium-ion battery lasts for up to 8 hours of play. I was sold as soon as I heard “Don’t Mess With My Man”. This would be perfect for my balcony, summer days in the park, trips to the island and impromptu photoshoots.

You can pick up the Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II at Bay Bloor Radio or baybloorradio.com starting at $329.

Thank you Elle Canada for these great February 2013 covers. I normally hate celebrity covers but I’m completely bias here, it’s Janelle Monáe and she is awesome. Subscribers to the magazine got the white cover while newsstands, the red.The interview is online and you should read it at Elle Canada. I kinda want to break out my suspenders and tie again.

Maceo Parker in Toronto on Feb 11, 2011

Thanks to @SoundboardTO, official Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall twitter account I won tickets to see funk legend Maceo Parker in Toronto.

Maceo Parker (pronounced /ˈmeɪsiːoÊŠ/; born February 14, 1943) is an American funk and soul jazz saxophonist, best known for his work with James Brown in the 1960s, as well as Parliament-Funkadelic in the 1970s. Parker was a prominent soloist on many of Brown’s hit recordings, and a key part of his band, playing alto, tenor and baritone saxophones(source).

Since the Nokia N8 takes such great video I decided to utilize it for this talent.

I’m trying to organize my gmail account so I’ve started adding filters. The number of ways to filter PR pitches is working pretty good I think. Now that I’m getting a bit organized I rediscovered this great video of Janelle Monáe and Karl Lagerfeld chatting that Marisa from Atlantic Records send me way back in mid December. It’s pretty cute.

I love, love Janelle Monáe. Amazing musician with perfect style. This post just isn’t complete without some videos and photos.

This musical is such a treat. I couldn’t keep still. The costumes were amazing. The cast was amazing. Everything was amazing. They didn’t even tone it down, it’s delightfully raunchy. If you are a fan of the movie, you need to see the musical. When I picked up the tickets at the box office I received two pink feather boas for me and my guest, April Wozny. Super amazing touch Mirvish. Thank you. April and I were freaking out over everything. The songs, the costumes, the confetti, the glowing bus. I’m sure the people around us found us obnoxious.

I can’t recommend Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Musical anymore highly.  Go quickly to Mirvish.com for details on Toronto show dates and tickets.  It’s only here till January 2, 2010. I plan on seeing it again.

The Uniform Project Pilots with Isis Salam

The Uniform Project Pilot Isis Salam

The second year of the Uniform Project finds Sheena hanging up the dress and finding others called The Uniform Project Pilots. Musician Isis Salam is October’s The Uniform Project Pilot and she is raising money for One Laptop per Child, a non-profit organization working to provide access to education to every child in the world. it’s just past the halfway point and if you have any spare dollars please head over to The Uniform Project’s website and donate.

Ladies and Gents introducing the one the only, most versatile little black dress on the planet! I can go from feeling like Mad Men’s Christian Hendricks day time to hot cocktail drinking soho fashionista at night. If the last 3 years of touring have taught me anything, it’s a solid appreciation for chic simplicity. First two photos is the front (or back depending on the mood) and then I flipped it around to showcase the cute buttons and pleats.

I must say I’m pretty excited about this project not only is it for a great cause but a great fashion challenge. I’ve recently been on a whole “live lite” approach to life and taking part in an exercise that provides an opportunity to realize what you “really have” is the cherry on the cake. Most women i know (including myself) have closets filled with pieces we know we will never wear again but are too attached to let them go – kind of like a needy boyfriend, you keep telling yourself ill make an attempt or one day ill introduce this piece to my parents. But we all know these pieces just get pushed to the back of the closet and forgotten.

My goal for the month is to support a whole class of students in Abuja, Nigeria with Laptops! So here’s to reinventing our wardrobes and perceptions! 200 kids – 200 laptops – 1 little black dress. LET’S GO!

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project with Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project with USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker)

I’m sure the generators dying as the lead singer from USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker) started to play his guitar wasn’t part of the plan. I stood there in shock.  The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project concert with USS isn’t starting off on the right foot. I felt terrible for the band but being professionals he sat down on the edge of the stage, gathered everyone closer and began an acoustic set. It seems he was just pulling songs out of the air to keep the crowd entertained. It was great to see them making the most out of a horrible situation.

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project with USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker)

I felt bad for the band but I got a kick out of the Techs freaking the hell out. This type of thing can’t be good for business. They were running around doing their best to get things started again. After five minutes of darkness I wondered if they would be able to get things going again. It wasn’t looking good until the 20 minute mark when the roar of the generator filled the quiet area behind the Bell Lightbox. The show would go on. USS opened with a ballad but there was no sign of the DJ. A man in a Jeremy Scott x Adidas tracksuit came out on the stage. It was blue and covered in stars.

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project with USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker)

As the music started to get heavy, the large crane lifted a crate high above the stage. On top of this crate were dancers who danced on the mid-air dance floor. I was a little surprised the that I didn’t see individual harness. Then I got frightened and wondered if the crane techs were the same as the power ones. It was scary until I heard that they were restrained up there. They did a good job of hiding them.

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project with USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker)

Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker is Toronto based and the members are Ashley Boo-Shultz and Jay Parsons (Human Kebab). The music is eclectic; a mashup of grunge, jungle and hip hop. Ashley has a great voice that sounds almost identical to Kirk Cobain. It’s really kinda of eerie. Ashley and Jay meet in 2004 but didn’t start the band until 2007. They had some early success with their 2008 EP, Welding the C:/. Questamation, their first full length album dropped on Mar 9, 2009.

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project with USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker)

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project involves 14 countries (Canada, USA, Great Britain, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Germany, India, Ireland, Lebanon, Poland, South Africa, Thailand and Venezuela) and their respected nightlife figures. The idea is to put promote the best elements of a country’s nightlife free of charge. to discover and celebrate the best elements of their country’s nightlife. Each country has a Cultural Curator to fill the crate with representative items of their country’s nightlife. USS is the Canadian representative. Canadians can contribute their ideas to add to the crate on the Smirnoff Canada facebook page. USS will choose the best ideas and place them in the The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project crate. The items added to the crate will be unveiled on October 22, 2010. All the countries will exchange a crate with another country for this cultural nightlife exchange. Of course Smirnoff will be capturing these events online to share with the 14 countries and the world. On November 27, 2010 each country will receive the crate and a party to celebrate will be held.

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project with USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker)

USS put on a fun show. They are very energetic and sometimes the show felt like performance art. I didn’t understand the objective of  The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project when I was watching USS play. It was only when I was doing research for this post did I see the scope and size of it. I’m curious what Canadians will select for the crate and I wonder which country’s crate Canada will open.

Disclosure: This a post about The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project. Smrinoff hired me to share my experiences at the USS show and talk about the The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project with you. Watch for the big exchange party on November 27, 2010.

Lexus Live at Distillery with The Stills

Lexus Live at Distillery - The Stills

The Distillery District turned into a free concert venue for a weekend when Lexus debuted the CT 200h to the public. The Lexus CT 200h is their entry into the hybrid market with this sporty coup design. They claim it’s the world’s first luxury compact hybrid car. It also used recycled material for parts like the seats. The car reminded me of my friend in Santa Monica, Paul. He has a hybrid car and tells me he fills up once a month. LA memories and desires were still fresh at this time and everything reminded me that I needed to go back.

Lexus Live at Distillery - The Stills

I attended a little cocktail before the performance of The Stills at The Boiler House which is a gorgeous looking restaurant. I had dinner there a long time ago, probably like 5 years. I’ve been back for the occasional party though. The Still were very good. This was my first exposure to them and I was told they were so four years ago. Who knew! I don’t follow music much at all.

I felt like sharing a few of my favourite shots with the Olympus E-PL1 with you.

Hublot Depeche Mode Watches

Hublot Depeche Mode Watches
Way back in December I wrote a post called “I can’t wait to see the Hublot Depeche Mode Watches”.

Hublot Depeche Mode Watches

Luxury watchmaker Hublot is creating 12 “pop” versions of their very popular Big Bang series with one of my favourite bands, Depeche Mode. Each one of a kind watch will feature a different Depeche Mode album cover. They will be sold at auction with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Hublot Depeche Mode Watches

There were no images of the Hublot Depeche Mode watches at the time and I was suppose to check back when the auction happen. I forgot and it’s taken me this long to follow up, ha ha. So here are the watches.

My favourites are Music for the Masses and Sounds of the Universe.
