i want: Omelle Fall 2009 Shoes

I was reading nitrolicious and she posted the shoes from the Omelle Fall 2009 collection. There were some interesting choices and fur was predominate. I fell in love with these are first sight. They are one of the shoes that you look at puzzled at first but they suck you into their randomness. I haven’t seen a shoe with this type of detailing yet. I have a feeling they look fantastic on. These booties are very cool too. They look like felt to me, which would be an interesting development. I’m still looking for my over the knee boots, these would make a good option Yup, no fur in my choices. They weren’t completely hideous, but definitely not my style. See the rest of the collection at nitro:licious. images: nitro:licious.

i got: A Necklush

Necklush.com I was browsing through Etsy one day and discovered the Necklush. It’s part scarf and part chunky necklace. I needed to have one. So, I put in my order. I also found them on twitter and told them I was excited to receive my Necklush. They told me that each one is made to order and that I should expect it soon. I kinda wish I bought a thicker stranded Necklush. I would suggest that anyone who is interested in buying one to get the thicker versions. The colour schemes are varied enough to suit everyone’s taste whether it’s a neutral or a bright colour. I had a very, very hard time deciding which one to choose. So hard, that I’m already scoping out my next purchase. Perhaps the Supreme Necklush :). The Necklush can be worn in a number of ways and they even produced a video for customers. Necklush is made from cut cotton loops. We screenprint the designs ourselves, making the multicolored ones very limited. Necklush can be worn as a …

geekiviews: Cosabella Never Say Never Thongs

At the Innovators’ Ball I managed to get a gift box of Never Say Never thongs by Cosabella from one of the dancers. The gift box had 4 different coloured thongs in it. I was very pleased with myself and all I had to do was dance for them. Prior to this stroke of luck, I bought 2 pairs of Cosabelle Soire Lowrider Thongs. I heard things about them being amazing and that people swear by them, yadda, yadda. The Soire’s were okay. I wasn’t raving about them and I wasn’t blown away either. However, the Never Say Never thongs are the most comfortable thong I’ve ever worn. I love it when you forget your are wearing a piece of clothing. That is how these thongs felt. I’m impressed with the quality of the material and stitching. The range of colours are a treat too. They are a little pricier than most but I’ve found they hold up excellent after a trip through the washer and dryer. image: takemorephotos.com

SpinTO Wrapup

SpinTO was a hell of a party. It a lot of fun hanging out with friends, drinking and dancing. The night also raised $15,000 for Toronto People with AIDS Foundation. Hurrah! Here is my little wrap up post with photos care of Rannie Turingan and Say Yeah. First off my SpinTO outfit. It was a pain in the ass to figure it out. At first I had the idea of gold, going with the Solid Gold theme. I had some items from American Apparel all picked out thanks to The Oracle, but decided against it. American Apparel gold lame really makes me ill. I needed something else. I didn’t have time to vintage shop and my choices for a good gold costume were dwindling. I finally talked to my friend Jaime Woo and he said he was going in a speedo. It snapped, the inspiration: I’m gonna wear a swimsuit. There were a bunch of incarnations of the swimsuit based outfit: the swimsuit and booty short combo; swimsuit and sarong combo; the swimsuit alone. The …

i want: Jeremy Laing Fall 2009 – 2010

I love the image on the landing page for Jeremy Laing website. It doesn’t look as impressive in this image so I suggest you click on the Jeremy Laing link to get a look at it in its glory. I just wanted to mention the image because it was so striking, but this is an i want post and the object of my affection is Jeremy Laing’s Fall 2009 – 2010 collection. I love it when Jeremy posts the collection on his site. You get photos from another angle and get to see some the details that you’d miss otherwise. There is a lot of beautiful details in this collection. Doesn’t this just scream wear me. The gloves, the little swish of the skirt, the freaking collar. I want! This is the “I’m so way hotter than you dress there is flames coming off me” dress. I love it, perfect for getting attention. images: jeremylaing.com

I have a dress named after me…

Yes, you read that heading right. I do have a dress named after me. Joy!!!!!! I was super honoured to find out, as I had no idea this was coming. Up until a few weeks ago, I didn’t even know what the dress looked like. People were asking me about it and all I could say is that it’s Greta Constantine, it will be amazing. So, I get a nice email in my inbox with the Greta Constantine Jersey Dress Lookbook. There is also a little note letting me that the Anita is part of the group. I present to you, dear reader, the Anita by Greta Constantine. It’s part of the Fall 2009 – 2010 collection. It’s beautiful, it’s red, it’s totally me! Just that much closer to muse status. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart Kirk and Stephen.

i want: Sporty SpinTO Style – Male Model Edition

So, I planned to do an “i want” post around SpinTO when I signed on as a media sponsor. Initially, it was going to be a menswear and womenswear post, but I decided to make it all about me. The i want: Sporty SpinTO Style post went over well. Well the boys want their own post now. So this is the Male version of i want: Sporty SpinTO Style aka the Male Model Edition. We can’t have a sporty style post without Canadian boys, DSquared2. This is the bread and butter. This is for the daring man. While the more modest can get into the Solid Gold them with these little gold shorts. Of course, Dolce & Gabbana, you can’t do sporty without them. These short shorts for men are perfectly acceptable to me 🙂 To round out the list we need Mr. Roberto Cavalli, which should inspire men looking to wear swimsuits. So, this is my idealized version of male Sporty SpinTO Style. There is no corresponding bicycle short trend in menswear right now. …

Brunch at La Perlerie

I was invited to a unique brunch event at La Perlerie a bead boutique and flameworking studio in the west end of Toronto. It was a way for Susan Nagy, owner of La Perlerie to reach out to several tastemakers in the city and talk to us about what she does at the boutique. La Perlerie bead boutique and flameworking studio features hand-made flameworked beads made in house, semi-precious stones, woods, resins, glass and Austrian crystal. They also do custom jewllery work where they work closely with the client to come up with the design for any occasion or use. Susan has also launched her first collection of sculptural neckpieces using a combination of wireworking techniques and handmade glass beads. La Perlerie also offers courses in Glass Beadmaking. Classes are taught by renowned Flameworking Artist and Jewellery Designer – Nadia Tasci. La Perlerie is working hand-in-hand with Sterling Silver Artist Karen Lamont of Citrus (www.citrussilver.com), to provide customers with a truly unique gift of a Sterling Silver Pendant, hand-stamped with words of the customer’s choosing. …

i want: Sporty SpinTO Style

I’m hear to talk style for the SpinTO party on May 15, 2009 (Friday!!!). I don’t have my outfit yet. I have a back up plan, that’s the gold plan. I have another idea, but it’s more sporty than gold. With an unlimited budget however my Sporty SpinTO party outfit would be amazing. So, I thought I would dream up an “i want” SpinTO style. My favourite pieces are from ThreeASFOUR I’m head over heels for this catsuit. Paired with a sheer tunic or tank top, sigh! Of course there is the hotter than hell Alexander McQueen legging and top combo. You can do it Prada Style. I’m particularly fond of the yellow House of Holland bicycle shorts. I pair it with a nice white racerback tank. Or Alexander Wang, who even showcased bicycle shorts in leather for Fall 2009. They aren’t pictured because they are kinda ugly. SpinTO is a perfect event to showcase the bike short trend that has been gaining strength throughout the last few seasons. My choices are from Resort 2009 …

Brose Fall 2009 – 2010 Preview

I went to the Brose Fall 2009 – 2010 preview at the Lausberg Contemporary Gallery. I heard of Brose through a Globe and Mail Style Council mailing list and have been salivating ever since. Remember, I need more feathers in my life. Brose is a very romantic line; think ballerina shapes, feathers, velvet and ruffles. There is some more tailored pieces that reminded me of Calvin Klein or Jil Sander, very modern with clean, straight lines. The fabrics are incredible quality and the construction is fantastic (Canadian made baby). Marika Brose is a graduate of ESDOM Paris and FIT. She has worked at Chloe and Pink Tartan as a designer; had stints as a buyer for Bloomingdale’s, Armani Exchange and The Bay and rounded out her experience in marketing at Holt Renfrew and Prada. She knows the business inside and out. I loved a lot of the collection. I felt the velvet was best as skirts. Some of the dresses had some serious boning to them. One dress could stand up on it’s own. I …

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Launch at Jezebel

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer held it’s launch last week at the new club, Jezebel. I attended to because I’m always interested in getting myself into Jezebel and see some fashion friends that would be in attendance. This year Joe Fresh Style is selling the shirts for $12 at all Joe Fresh locations. Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) began as the fashion industry’s response to breast cancer – a widely recognized effort that raises public awareness and funds to support breast cancer research, education and patient care. Inspired by Ralph Lauren in memory of his late friend Nina Hyde, The Washington Post columnist who died of breast cancer, the campaign centres around the sale of Target apparel reminding women to “target” their breast health. The target has been worn by such fashion icons as Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Helena Christensen. Since its launch, FTBC has become the worldwide fashion community’s singular and most successful response to breast cancer. This incredibly simple and powerful awareness campaign has raised over $1.4 …

Supra NS Sneakers High-tops, high-tops, high-tops. I’m all about the high-top and the Supra NS are speaking to me. I’m dying for a pair of gold sneakers and these are nice. However, I love the fabric treatment on the grey option. Louise Goldin Unravelled

Louise Goldin Unravelled is a great video series that covered Louis Goldin’s Fall Winter 2009 – 2010 collection. It goes from conception to show and it’s fascinating. Working backwards from Louise Goldin’s show at London Fashion Week in February 2009, Unravelled reveals every facet in the development of her Autumn/Winter 2009 collection, deconstructing her creative process through ten weekly episodes. Recording months of work and featuring extensive in-depth interviews and intimate footage from her studio and factories in Milan – much shot by Goldin herself – Unravelled pulls Louise Goldin’s experimental and innovative work apart at its seams, offering unique access inside the creativity one of fashion’s most exciting new talents.

Bombay Sapphire Private Evening in Rosedale

I have to admit, I get invited to some pretty cool things. I LOVE IT! The latest adventure was a little lesson in sophisticated entertaining by Bombay Sapphire Gin courtesy of Ian Barr of Rocket XL (I want – I got loves you Ian). The group was about 40 people including familiar faces from twitter (Rannie, Sass who is oh so sassy, Jaime Woo, Andrew Louis, Suresh, Marie) and the fashion world. The venue, 49 Nanton Avenue, the former home of Ted Rogers Sr. It was incredible to say the least. The Globe and Mail has a great slideshow from when the house went up for sale. It looks a little different with the new owners, it’s spectacular. The backyard area is the same and that pool is the most fabulous thing I’ve ever seen; non chlorinated and a lovely 80-85 degrees. Yes people, it was heated to perfection. I wanted to strip down and jump in. Teaching the art of sophisticated entertaining was Merlin Griffiths, Master Mixologist and Bombay Sapphire Global Brand Ambassador. Merlin …

geekiviews: Nikon S230

Strategic Ampersand provided me with a Nikon S230 to evaluate for two weeks. I’m never really pleased with the performance of point and shoot cameras but it’s the cruel bargain I have made with myself. A digital SLR is just too big to carry around to events and that trumps any idea I have about owning one. I like something small and compact. I use a Pentax right now and I have a bit of a love hate relationship with it. I hate it more than my old Pentax. I broke my old Pentax but we had a great relationship. I was able to take consistently good pictures with the camera and I haven’t been able to replicate that feeling with the new Pentax. I was hoping the Nikon S230 might return me to those carefree days of great photos. The big claim to fame for the S230 is the 3 inch touch screen. I’m usually not a touch screen fan but I was curious to see what the technology was like. Some of the …

Greta Constantine Fall 2009 – 2010 Lookbook

Greta Constantine Fall 2009 – 2010 Lookbook Since the lookbook has been out I’ve noticed a little bit of misinformation about the Greta Constantine Boys that I would like to clear up: Greta Constantine is not Project Runway Canada alums. Stephen Wong entered the contest as an individual not as Greta Constantine which includes his partner Kirk Pickersgill. Just clearing that up for you.
