Hunter Boots in Toronto

Well, well, everyone wants Hunter boots now. Even my friend MJ jumped on the bandwagon which totally surprised me. You should see the looks we get when he’s wearing his black ones and I’m wearing my blue ones. We look like a crazy couple that dresses alike, thought MJ is the better dressed one. Just to let the guys know, Hunter’s are a unisex boot. So if anyone tells you they are a girl’s boot, they are completely wrong. Make sure you let them know that the Duke of Wellington is rolling in his grave at the suggestion. So here is an updated list for where to buy Hunter boots aka Wellys in Toronto Get Outside – They carry a range of colours. I really want a yellow pair. Heel Boy – Carrys Hunters in a variety of colours. The website is annoying – content not music people. It looks half finished. That being said, it’s a great store for shoes. The Bay apparently is carrying them also. If you’ve seen Hunters around, please leave …

Linda and Prada, hmm

This could be interesting. Linda and Naomi for Fall 2008. Rumor has it that Prada is set to join in on the resurgence the 90s supermodel. Often touted for being on the forefront of trends Prada could follow in the foot steps of Chanel and Louis Vuitton by using a 90s supermodel. Prada campaign photographer Steven Meisel is shooting Linda Evangelista reportedly for the Prada Fall-Winter 2008.2009 campaign. A trusted source tells us not to get over excited as Linda Evangelista could also be shooting a Vogue Italia Cover. So what do you think …..about Linda Evangelista for Prada? via Linda Evangelista For Prada Fall 2008 Ad Campaign? on Frillr

Mass Exodus 2008

Mass Exodus 2008 I attended my first Mass Exodus show. For those of you that don’t know, Mass Exodus is Ryerson’s fashion show for graduating students. I attended the press and industry show, so we saw the top 20 collections of the graduating class. It was interesting to watch Mass Exodus because it’s raw. These kids haven’t been broken down by the industry or have had there creativity stifled – well maybe the teachers helped there, but I can’t say for sure. They are excited about fashion and that is wonderful. The production value of the show was excellent. The theater department was involved and there was a large set, smoke machines, lights and video. It was well organized and executed. I heard about the excessive number of swimwear and lingerie collections last year but this year there was only one and it was pretty good. I thought the bottom could have used some more fabric though. Not many collections grabbed me to be honest. Some kids were drinking way too much of the 80s …

The good old days…

I miss the old days of the Supermodel. Look at these women. They wouldn’t get work in 2008. See how damn young Naomi is? After my Sasha post you would think that I’m all about the uber skinny model, I’m not. I like the freaks, to be honest. I mean that in the nicest way possible. I just find the unusual ones more interesting to look at. Images like this does give me the shivers. via Fashionista – I Don’t Care What My Teachers Say, I’m Gonna Be A Supermodel

Celeb clothing lines; Do they actually sell?

I was reading ONTD and saw a post called Posh’s Jeans Blues: Sales Disappoint on dVb Line. Here’s a quote: The blogosphere has been buzzing with reports that Victoria Beckham’s dVb denim line is being dropped from several top retailers, including L.A.’s famous Fred Segal and Kitson boutiques. Turns out that while the line isn’t dropped from Kitson, it’s definitely not performing up to expectation — and that’s being attributed to Posh’s laissez-faire attitude. Kitson owner Fraser Ross tells PEOPLE, “She’s not supporting the line. It’s not good for her brand and not good for her endorsements. In a tough economy, you need to be in partnership with the people that are selling your line to your fans. That’s the bottom line. This got me thinking, do celeb lines actually sell? I see a lot of it on the sales racks and in resellers like Winners, *cough*HOUSE OF DEREON*cough*, so they can’t be doing that well. Kate Moss’s line at Topshot started off with a lot of buzz but has downturned quickly. Now you might …

Click Comments are back for now.

I had to disable them today because their server issues were preventing my site from loading. It would be nice if the postreach people would update their blog when this kinda thing happens. I think I’ll be looking for a WordPress plugin that does something similar. I really don’t want site loading because of someone else’s server issues.

Shreyas and Mina Ajmera Gallery of Africa, the Americas and Asia-Pacific at the Rom

I visited the ROM one lunch break to preview the Shreyas and Mina Ajmera Gallery of Africa, the Americas and Asia-Pacific. There was a little speech by prominent officials. I learned that new curators were brought on board to help with the gallery. We then went up to the gallery itself. I liked the layout and how they displayed the 1400+ pieces. This gallery reflects the ROM’s vast and diverse collections that represent the artistic and cultural traditions of indigenous peoples from Africa, the American continents, the Asia-Pacific region and Oceania. This is the first permanent home for these collections in over 30 years, with many of the 1,400 artifacts on display for the first time. Ranging from large and dramatic ceremonial masks and colourful robes to archaeological objects such as ceramics and basketry, the collections were gathered from the late 19th century to the present and represent some of the Museum’s founding collections. The artifacts reveal aspects of everyday life, clothing, commerce, ceremony and art of indigenous cultures from around the world. Divided into …

More from [FAT] 2008

I attended [FAT] aka Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Festival this past week. You can read about it on blogTO. I am a little disappointed that I didn’t get to see the fashions on Friday. I had photographer friends the whole time and here are some photos from the event by Daryl Banks.

i want…

As a rollerblader, these Emporio Armani Skorpion Quadline Roller-Skates are very appealing to me. IThe Armani ones are a little pricey at about $425USD. I checked out the other types from Skorpion, the company who created the skates for Emporio Armani. The Quadline is the much cheaper option with black costing $189USD and colours costing $250USD. I have no idea where you can buy these in Canada right now, but I will update this post once I find out. You can get them online at skates.com though. images: emporioarmani.com and skorpionquadline.com

The business of fashion is so much more interesting.

Yes, I love the clothes, shoes and accessories like any girl, but what makes fashion so interesting to me is the business end. While most people write fashion off as unimportant, I don’t think they realize the monstrous business that works behind the facade that affects so much of the world financially, socially and politically. Articles like The Latest in Fashion: Pink Slips from The New York Times are fascinating. There have been some interesting designer promotions and firings happening over the last year and this article goes into detail about designer Lars Nilsson who was fired from Gianfranco Ferré before even showing a collection. WHENEVER a fashion designer is fired, it is usually a very big deal, a scandal to be chewed on relentlessly by an industry that feasts on the intrigue of disgrace as if it were a long-denied buffet. SO LONG, FAREWELL Lars Nilsson That the two most spectacular dismissals in the last five years happen to have involved the same designer, Lars Nilsson, is all the more delicious to fashion insiders. …

I’m lining up overnight for this H&M collaboration.

Comme des Garçons baby! PARIS – For its next designer collaboration, H&M is trying on something avant-garde for size and teaming up with Japanese fashion maverick Rei Kawakubo. A onetime Comme des Garçons for H&M collection is slated to launch in early November as the Swedish fast-fashion giant opens its first stores in Japan: a 10,000-square-foot unit in Tokyo’s Ginza district and a 16,000-square-foot location in hyper-trendy Harajuku. An international rollout will follow. Kawakubo – acclaimed for a fearless, experimental approach to fashion – will design H&M fashions for women, men and children, as well as accessories and a unisex fragrance. H&M has sparked shopping frenzies for its annual designer collaborations with the likes of Roberto Cavalli, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf and Karl Lagerfeld. from WWD.com

Miuccia demands you take a lunch break.

And I think that’s pretty damn cool, regardless of the rest of her rules. Page Six has uncovered Prada’s New York EMPLOYEES rules. An insider told Page Six the instructions came directly from Prada head Miuccia Prada, who is “hard-core” and “runs a tight ship.” The e-mail declares: “Desk and work surfaces should be clean and uncluttered. Pictures, calendars, etc. should not be taped to cubicle/office walls. Pets may not be brought to the corporate office or the store. For corporate employees, all coats should be hung in the appropriate coatroom and not kept in offices or hung over cubicle walls. Window shades should be even (either completely up or completely down) throughout one side of the floor. Items may not be placed on the window sills … In addition, it is important to take a break from your workday and enjoy your lunch. Therefore, absent extenuating circumstances, lunch may not be eaten at your desk.” The memo ends with a warning that violators “may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination …
