Style Guide: Kapital and Latre x Viapiana

I wish Kapital’s pant and dress sizing was friendlier to me. It’s a brand I absolutely love, but like a lot of Japanese brands, I don’t have the body to enjoy it all. Shopping Japanese fashion brands is humbling as I learned. They’re built different over there and sizing can be tiny for Westerners.

Sizing can be wonky, but the retail experience in Japan is absolutely bonkers. You’ll find something to love easily! And if not, just wandering the shops is pretty amazing.

I bought this Jersey Bandana Huge T from Blue Button Shop in Toronto. I knew I could fit in this!

Latre is one of the best shops in the city. Like Kapital, everything they do is so bloody cool. Dripping with cool.

These Japanese salvage denim trousers are connected to my story about not fitting into Japanese brands. I was on the hunt for a pair of Kapital jeans from Blue Button Shop.

Unfortunately, Blue Button Shop was out of stock for some styles and the others didn’t fit. So when that journey was a bust, I remembered Latre’s Instagram post about the collaboration with Toronto-based denim brand Viapiana and how cool they looked. Thankfully, the unisex design made fitting easy.

Style Guide: JT, Pleats Please, and Junya Watanabe

The image shows a person standing in front of a mirror, wearing a loose shirt that's t-shirt fabric in the front and gray button-up fabric in the back. They have on black pleated pants and chunky gray and pink sneakers. The background features a well-lit room with wooden flooring and a table with a checkered tablecloth.

This JT top is casual in the front and business in the back. It combines a t-shirt and grey button up shirt. There are a row of buttons that run up both sides of the shirt and across the back (check the video below to see). This lets you create different silhouettes with the shirt. I opened up a few buttons on the right side of the shirt and tucked it into my pants.

I was going to buy the men’s version of these Pleats Please pants but I found the women’s version at Holt Renfrew.

These were part of my Japan trip wardrobe because I thought they would be nice and light for summer. Nothing is light enough for summer in Japan!

Style Guide: Black Crane SS24 Turmeric Sack Dress

The Black Crane SS24 sack dress is a colour and texture explosion: seersucker in turmeric.

Boot hunting with any kind of calf muscle sucks so online is out. I found these ones at Holt Renfrew after a long day of hunting last year. It’s been several years since I’ve owned some proper tall boots, I missed the aesthetic.

I’m wearing the dress backwards here. I prefer the neckline this way. It can be worn off the shoulder for true summer styling.

When I was in Japan, I visited so many GU stores, never seeing anything I liked. GU is Uniqlo’s sister shop: think cheaper and more trendy. Thankfully, @jadedjournalista let me know about the new collaboration between UNDERCOVER and GU!

I happened to be in Miyazaki, Japan when the collaboration launched. It was easy to get first dibs with no lines in smaller town Japan. I quickly clocked the other shoppers as two fashion-heavy women on a mission and smiled. These are my people.

I have a few vintage wool skirts. This is a Pendleton one. And it’s finally an outfit where these slippers match . Wearing these skirts is giving me fomo for the ones I’ve seen and passed up. Full of regrets.

I have a little collection of vintage skirts going including another reversible one like this in black and white. Cosy sweater purchased from @friends_of_jenny. Cozy unlatching shoes cause dgaf at the moment .

It’s going to be mostly separates for the next few weeks. I’ll show off that vintage skirt collection.

Starting this busy week easy going. I realized I don’t wear enough of my separates, I’ll make that a theme I work over the next little bit. Cozy sweater and new winter slippers.

It’s been a while #ggatshopify. Let’s come back with a colourful bang. I needed this dance so bad, it’s been a long fall season .

Look what just came from India, NorBlack NorWhite goodies. I also told myself no shoes but couldn’t resist these from Studio D Shoes.
