I think I’m one of the only people that loved Christoper Kane’s spring collection. It’s getting torn a new asshole on The Fashion Spot.
I’ve just saw this cute fashion week diary by Jeremy Laing on the Refinery29 site. You can read the article at Fashion Week Photo Diary: Jeremy Laing -Refinery29 Pipeline.
I don’t usually get Rodarte. I appreciate their work and the complexity, but I’ve always been meh about them. I don’t know what it is about this Spring collection that has me excited. They have basically expanded and refined the look they presented during Spring 2008 and the Fall 2008 seasons. It just looks so slick and polished for Spring 2009. The presentation of the collection was brilliant and I have to admit, I’m really loving the clothes too. Some of it is totally unwearable, but who the fuck cares. After a week of mediocre shows, Rodarte definitely stands out. Check the video!
There was no red in this collection, just basic black in different textures and finishes. His work looks simple but it’s all in the details. I wish there was video.

The video is out for Jeremy Laing’s Spring 2009 collection. View it on Jeremy Laing | Swarovski Sparkles TV. There is also an interview you can watch too.

Anna Sui is a little too boho for me, but I’m loving the sandals.
From the little I’ve seen so far I think the following will be trends
1. The middrift. Not something I want to see comeback but I’m seeing it in shows
2. Baggy pants in all shapes and cuts
My love for Karl Largerfeld has grown 10 fold since reading The Beautiful Fall (see side bar for amazon link). Amazing book which really give you an insight into how brilliant this man is.

I think if you would wear these sunglasses, you would like this collection. However, it’s getting trashed on thefashionspot.
This is the genius of McQueen. Without seeing the images, would I never consider a black and white ombre dress and suit combination, but here I am, salivating. The dress is 10 times better than the suit. The dress is fantastic.

Two things to note.
1. Stirrup pants on Men are wrong, wrong, wrong. And in leather infinitely wrong.
2. The new pant silhouette for women is the cigar shape (3rd Thumbnail, click for a bigger look). It certainly doesn’t work for everyone. If you see a hint of hip, forget it. Neil Barrett does some nice ones though.
Everyone is always asking so I found some links to Spring Summer 2009 fashion trends for your reading pleasure. I will be attending the Spring/Summer 2009 trend seminar presented by Promostyl at the end of the month. You can buy tickets for this member’s only event online at the Toronto Fashion Incubator site.
EDIT: I’ve found another link about Spring 2009 trends for you from Premiere Vision
