Sorel Spring 2011

I was surprised to hear that Sorel is expanding it’s footwear line to include casual shoes for Spring 2011. This season marks the brand’s inaugural spring line, which includes eight new looks for men and women, as well as six carryover styles that have been lightened up and modified for spring. For women, the collection focuses on vulcanized sneakers, Mary Jane shoes and sporty ballet flats, as well as fashion boots and rainboots. For men, there are sneakers, tasseled boat shoes and rugged, casual boots. Each style, priced between $70 and $100, pays homage to Sorel’s history, from the rubberized toecaps on the sneakers to the stitching on the heels. And Koeberle already has plans for spring ’12. “In Sorel’s future, there may be a heel of some sort, perhaps an open-toe [shoe/sandal hybrid]. It’s key to stay true to who we are and not walk away from our heritage,” she said. “But the opportunity is limitless.” I’m not really jazzed on the collection but I do think the Sorel rainboots are super cute.  I …

i got: Camilla Skovgaard Drop Cut Out Sandal

I got a the beautiful Hermès L’air de Paris Gavroche for my birthday. I didn’t talk about the other really awesome birthday present. Oh yes, it’s these babies. Camilla Skovgaard makes the most comfortable heel I own.  They have been getting a lot of wear since June.  I’m loving the last so much that I’ve been toying with the idea of another pair of Camilla Skovgaard shoes in the future, perhaps many pairs in years to come.   Not only are they comfortable, they are a smoking hot shoe. Ask A Geek: Where to find the I want – I got Vegas Adidas

Sometimes readers ask me questions. If they are of value to all my readers I post them online. If you have a question, please feel free to submit it using the contact form. I’ll definitely do my best to answer it. I want – I got reader Mel wrote: Message: Hey how are u doing? Im really feeling those adidas u bought from vegas. Can u plz tell me the name and possibly where to cop them from. Thanks for any help. Hi Mel, My Vegas Adidas, the mere mention of them brings back debauchery filed times in Las Vegas way back in 2008. I originally purchased these at a store in the Venetian. They are my favourite Adidas kicks ever. I can’t remember the name of the sneaker shop but it was in The Venetian. Normally I would respond to this question with a “you’re shit out of luck answer” but I’ve tracked them down on ebay. If you are serious, bid on them now.

i want: Giuseppe Zanotti Platform Wedges

These Giuseppe Zanotti platform wedges are crazy high. They have a 6-inch heel and 2-inch platform. I’m loving anything pony these days and my stance on animal print is slowly crumbling.  I really like it when it’s used for accessories. I love platforms and I have a few high ones in my closet. I wonder what these are like to walk in. Any Giuseppe wearers out there care to comment? Available at endless.com: Platform Pump and Wedge images: endless.com

Foot Ball by Marcus Tomlinson at Hermès

Hermès had a small party to feature a special film installation called Foot Ball created by artist Marcus Tomlinson. The fall 2010 Hermès shoe collection was the inspiration for the film. There was a preview of the upcoming Fall 2010 accessories collection also. Every shoe has a thousand and one tales to tell, and Marcus Tomlinson believes each one, following them step by step. In his enthusiasm for Pierre Hardy’s designs at Hermès, the artist, photographer and maker of animation films has become their messenger: “His shoes strike a perfect balance between design and craftsmanship, between tried and trusted skills and what seems to me is a very limpid form of inspiration.” Patiently and passionately, the artist has composted FOOT BALL, the film of an imaginary day in the life of a part of shoes. And so there are, filching fragments from our own lives – step by step, with measured tread, from a standing start, or dragging their feet. The installation will be available for public viewing in the Hermès Bloor Street store until …

Converse Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Preview

The Converse Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 preview was held at One King Street in the Vault. It was an interesting venue as it literally was a vault, heavy steel door and all. It was a little to dark for good photos. The Chuck Taylor line is always coming up with new fabrications and colour schemes.  I saw corduroy, jersey, sequins and suede. I really like the Chuck Taylor Slims in leather.  For women they introduced a slouchy Chuck Taylor in patent leather and denim. They retail $80 – $90.  There where so many styles to look at, here are my highlights. Chuck Taylor All Star 1969 Collection The 1960’s were turbulent times. War lotteries and race riots gave way to protests and the love movement. The music of Woodstock carries with it the all the strength and desires of a new and prolific generation who were determined to break all the rules. Chuck Taylor All Star shoe’s capture the radical spirit of the Woodstock generation and pay homage to the artists that changed the …
