Flare Magazine x Aldo Spring Summer 2011 Shoe Launch Party

The Flare Magazine x Aldo Spring Summer 2011 Wedge is now available. They celebrated the launch with a VIP party at the Bloor Street store that gave attendees first access to buy the shoes.   Ever dreamed of being in an editor’s shoes? Well, try them on! Created in collaboration with FLARE magazine’s wickedly stylish fashion director, Liz Cabral, this style takes spring’s hottest trends in stride. With naturally sexy python, the sleekest wedge and a flash of fluoro orange, it’s a brilliantly of-the-now shoe for style whizzes like you!   The shoes looked really good in person. I heard many people say they were comfortable. It was hilarious seeing how many people were wearing the shoes in the store.  They were like an army. They are available in Toronto at the Toronto Eaton Centre, Yorkdale and Bloor Street locations. Retail price is $135See the website for other locations across the country. I have a short video of Liz Cabral talking about the Flare x Aldo Shoe and the other selections from the Aldo spring …

i want: Givenchy Studded Wood Platform Heels

I’m looking for some kind of platform for spring. I’m liking the wood clog like shoes that are coming out. These Givenchy Studded Wood Platform Heels are the best ones I’ve seen yet. They are pretty high with a 5.25″ heel and 1.5″ platform. The rubber sole is promising for comfort. images: ssense.com

i want: Marc By Marc Jacobs Dries Wedge Booties

These Dries Wedge Booties by Marc By Marc Jacobs are fun shoes.  There is a lot going on with the brown trim and patent leather  navy but I like them  a lot.  They are very schoolboyish.  I can see a myself in these with a pleated skirt, white tshirt and a schoolboy type satchel (like PS1 or Chloe).  The rubber sole on the shoe should make the 4″ heel more bearable. images: ssense.com

The Roaring Twenties: Heels, Hemlines and High Spirits at The Bata Shoe Museum

I attended the opening party for the new exhibit at the Bata Shoe Museum: The Roaring Twenties: Heels, Hemlines and High Spirits. Born in the age of post-war exuberance, nurtured by the dynamism of the machine and seduced by the lure of the exotic, the Roaring 20s infused modern society and fashion with an energetic modernity. As hemlines rose, shoes became increasingly important for stylish women and many of the decade’s exceptional shoes illustrate the electrifying synergy between fashion and design. The Roaring Twenties: Heels, Hemlines and High Spirits focuses on the wardrobe and widening horizons of the “New Woman” and looks at how the myriad influences of the period such as cinema, jazz clubs, and world travel influenced the shape of fashionable footwear.(source) The Roaring Twenties: Heel, Hemlines and High Spirits exhibit is on now at The Bata Shoe Museum. It also has a series of lectures and events that you can view in PDF format for details. See all the photos I took at the The Roaring Twenties: Heels, Hemlines and High Spirits …

DUY x Aldo Fall Winter 2011 – 2012

Aldo Shoes is on a collaboration roll too.  During Rouge Fashion Week they partnered with Greta Constantine on some limited edition footwear.  DUY paired up with Aldo during LG Fashion Week for a limited edition collection of accessories. This collection of elegant and slightly rebel shoes and accessories pays homage to his Muse, her sophistication and distinctive sense of aesthetics. Faithful to her vision, the various pieces of this collection integrate the elements that made Daphne Guinness famous: leather, textured materials (python, lace), prints (leopard) and fur (pony), caramel hues and dark shades (grey and black). The FW 2011 ALDO collection of shoes and accessories for DUY is an stunning blend of radical chic, flexibility and accessibility. A collection which truly combines modernism, sophistication and elegance.
