Arthur in New York

I hear we will have another Canadian to cheer during New York Fashion Week, it’s Arthur Mendonça. Congrats Arthur, I can’t wait to see the show. Unfortunately it will be online like most people, I’m not attending the fall shows in New York this season. 🙁 image: mendonca.ca

Givenchy Haute Couture – Spring Summer 2008

Givenchy Haute Couture – Spring Summer 2008 This collection is weird. I really like some of the minimalist pieces, but they don’t represent couture to me. As a member of The Fashion Spot said, who really needs $20,000 leggings. It’s very ready to wear. The last two dresses are more what I’m looking for. I felt the collection didn’t have a single direction or theme. It was like he did three collections: minimalist, ethereal and highly structured. images: thefashionspot

Chanel Haute Couture – Spring Summer 2008

I’m having a love hate relationship with the Chanel Haute Couture – Spring Summer 2008 collection. On one hand, some of the outfits are to die for, very beautiful. However, I hate the presentation. The large tacky Chanel jacket in the background. Why the hell aren’t the models wearing heels. Check out style.it and look at how awful the collection photos are. The models don’t know how to pose in flats and it’s just plain awkward and unflattering. Devon Aoki looks like hell, as does the dress, IMO. The shoes are awful. I do love the wrap skirts and the jackets. images: thefashionspot

Giorgio Armani Prive Haute Couture – Spring Summer 2008

Giorgio Armani Prive Haute Couture – Spring Summer 2008 Giorgio Armani Prive is another designer that doesn’t do anything for me during HC. His stuff is just to damn wearable. However, I did see a few looks that I thought were interesting. You just know someone is going to wear look #2 to some awards show, it’s a classic beauty. I can’t believe that I’m bored by the Christian Dior Spring Summer 2008 Haute Couture collection

I’ve said it. John has officially bored me. It’s like I’ve been seeing the same collection for the past few seasons, with no real movement forward. Don’t get me wrong, the garments are made to perfection and the details are incredible. I’m just bored with this, even with the Klimt references. That’s really damn hard to do, Klimt is my favourite artist! That being said, there are a few pieces that I liked. (Click on thumbnails for larger images) I did get a kick out of the hats and amazing makeup job. I really shouldn’t pass final judgment until I see the video. images: thefashionspot and vouge.com.au

That Secret Garden a-line dress by Chloe is the stuff of dreams!

I blogged about theSecret Garden a-line dress by Chloe from the Fall 2007 ready to wear collection in November. It’s fantastic in pictures and absolutely stunning in person. I tried on the Chloe dress for kicks and I just had to take unauthorized photos. It was so beautiful. A heavy duty open end two-way zipper ran the length of the back of the dress. It’s definitely a winter dress, the wool made it a lot heavier than I expected. I’m in love, I can’t believe it was on the sale rack. It was still too pricey for me, so I only got a brief taste of its exquisiteness. This is the runway look and a closer look at the detail. images: me and elle.com

Prada Fall Winter 2008 – Men’s Ready to Wear

I don’t normally follow the men’s collections too much, but I’ve decided to do something different. I don’t know what Miuccia is thinking this year, but I really don’t like men in miniskirts. There are a bunch of looks that I really dislike, like the nude tops. (click to see larger versions) However, there is a winner; this beautiful red suit. I like the boots too, but not together.

OMG Pre-Fall 2008 already

The Pre-Fall 2008 Fashion Shows are beginning to show up on Style.com. Right now there are 3 designers Oscar De La Renta, Zac Polson and Dolce & Gabbana. Oscar’s show was 63 freakin’ pieces. 63 for pre-fall, WTF. Oscar’s collection was really nice. This is two seasons in a row that I’m loving what he’s doing. He’s incorporating the Spring 2008 print trend into some nice dresses and skirts.
