Lanvin Spring Summer 2013 Ad Campaign

I’m not the biggest fan of the Lanvin Spring Summer 2013 Ad Campaign. The models don’t do much for me. I will admit that it’s pretty slick looking and if the models were different I’d probably be very excited. My thoughts about the campaign changed after I watched the adorable Lanvin Spring Summer 2013 Ad Campaign video with Alber Albez talking about the collection on Skype. He is so cute. Comme des Carrés, Hermès x Comme des Garçons

A few months ago Hermès and Rei Kawakubo announced that they would collaborate. Comme des Garçons x Hermès scarves naturally got people pretty excited. I’m one of them. Miu Miu Comes to Toronto via Holt Renfrew Bloor Street

Everyone has been buzzing about the new Miu Miu mini boutique that opened up in Holt Renfrew’s Bloor Street location. This is Miu Miu’s first Canadian point of sale. Architect Roberto Baciocchi designed space that is dedicated to Miu Miu handbags and accessories collections. No clothing folks and shoes are still available in shoe department. The space is very Miu Miu with damask finish covered in crystal and studs, small display windows and polished brass backlit logos. Miu Miu can be found on the first floor of Holts in the handbag section. It occupies the space where all the Balenciaga bags were hanging about. It’s like walking into a gold box. I stopped by today. It’s not very big and I didn’t see much jewellery but there were a ton of handbags though. It was super busy too. The space looks pretty slick and makes the product so desirable looking. i want: A Fox Brooch by Lea Stein

I was browsing the Valery Demure online shop and noticed this Fox brooch in the Rarities section. The designer is french artist, Lea Stein. She known as “the most notable and innovative designer of plastic jewelry of the 20th century”. She started working in textiles in the late 50s but eventually grew interested in plastics in the mid 60s. She married a chemist and together they created a new layering technique for plastic. She worked with her husband, chemist Ferdinand Steinberger, to develop a process of layering very thin sheets of cellulose acetate (or rhodoid) and laminating them to form a “multi-coloured sandwich of plastic”.[3] Each ‘sandwich’ was baked for a long time, then cooled and cut into shapes. The process could take as long as six months. This technique allowed Stein to insert different fabrics (such as brocades and lace), colors and textures into the plastic.(source) images: valerydemure.com

Janelle Monae on the Cover of Elle Canada

Thank you Elle Canada for these great February 2013 covers. I normally hate celebrity covers but I’m completely bias here, it’s Janelle Monáe and she is awesome. Subscribers to the magazine got the white cover while newsstands, the red.The interview is online and you should read it at Elle Canada. I kinda want to break out my suspenders and tie again. images: courtesy of Atlantic Records

Chanel Haute Couture Spring Summer 2013

I raved about the Chanel Paris-Édimbourg Métiers d’Art Pre Fall 2013 show. It was a giant spectacle in a Scottish Castle and full of glorious knitwear. The Chanel Spring Summer 2013 Haute Couture show doesn’t have the grand scale of the Scottish Castle but takes us through a stroll through a garden. Best of all, Karl had a black model. (Yes, I pay attention). And she’s Canadian!!!. I love some Grace Mahary!. Doesn’t she look stunning? As with all Chanel show’s you need to see the video. Here’s the full collection Chanel always does a great job of capturing close ups and beauty shots. The “Enchanted Interlude” is very pretty. I love the makeup. I tracked down this Making of a Chanel Haute Couture dress from Spring Summer 2013. The work is detailed and meticulous. The only thing I didn’t like about the collection was the shoes. I can’t deal with the shape of the open toe. If they were closed , I’d be all over them. images: style.com

i want: Feather Cat Eye Sunglasses by Charlotte Olympia x Linda Farrow

Charlotte Olympia makes shoes and handbags I really like. I guess I can add sunglasses to that list too. The brand partnered with Linda Farrow to create the Feather Cat Eye shades. She’s got a great eye for accessories which isn’t surprising because Charlotte Olympia Dellal has amazing style. These sunglasses are around $410 and available online at luisaviaroma.com, charlotteolympia.com and lindafarrow.com. images: luisaviaroma.com

Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring Summer 2013

The Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring Summer 2013 collection sealed the deal. I’m drinking the Raf Simons at Dior koolaid and it’s delicious. This collection is a stroll through the gardens. Think the opposite of Galliano’s floral display of Fall 2010. This is subtle and wearable. The devil is in the details in this couture collection. I even love the shoes even though they look completely uncomfortable. I’m still trying to figure out the shoe tight business. Are they like thigh highs with a shoe attached. They look amazing regardless of construction. The video is out and it’s in HD. Everything about this is beautiful and it just brought such a smile to my face. Pat McGrath’s crystal lips was the cherry on top of this collection. The detail shots give you an idea of the incredible work by the atelier under Raf’s direction. I love these gold and emerald heels. images: style.com

i want: Givenchy Antigona Handbag

Cue the new handbag obsession, the Givenchy Antigona. Ricardo Tisci introduced the Antigona in 2010. This boston style bag comes in a variety of skins and colour combinations. Right now the above blue and black combination is my favourite. It’s $2300 at Bergdorf Goodman. The handbag is named after Antigone, the daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta who are all characters dreamed up by Sophocles. The orange Givenchy Antigona is $1989.22 on farfetch.com. The brown and black Givenchy Antigona is $2426.00 from shopzoeonline.com. The Antigona comes in three sizes. You can get an idea of the price range from this link.. Givenchy is available in Toronto at Holt Renfrew. images: bergdorfgoodman.com, luisaviaroma.com, lyst.com

i want: Melanie Georgacopoulos Half Gold Covered Rings

I like bold jewellery and there are time when the simplest designs have the most impact. I would say Melanie Georgacopoulos jewellery falls into the latter category. I love the simplicity of the design and that it’s not conventional. The Half gold covered ring peacock and Half gold covered pearl ring white both contain natural pearls and 18K solid yellow gold. Simplicity from this London based designer comes at a price of $1,095.00 CAD. You can find these rings and more from Melanie Georgacopoulos on the Toronto based website Kavut.com which also carries some other great jewellery brands.

Harper’s Bazaar China – October 2012

The October 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar China had a beautiful Parisian themed editorial with model Miao Bin Si. For the 26th anniversary of the magazine they fly to Paris for this retro style editorial. I love everything about this editorial. The makeup is perfect and I love seeing the stylist create classic looks using current designers. The Label Finder – A Worldwide Fashion Directory

The Label Finder is one of my must have fashion references. This International Fashion Store Locator allows you to search by designer and find the retailer that carries them. It works worldwide so it could be used for vacation shopping preparation. Stores and Labels can sign up to the site and either modify their existing profiles or create new ones. image: thelabelfinder.com

i want: Raya Backpack by Rimanchik

It’s always funny how everything runs in circles. The backpack was my staple bag during high school and university. The thought of using a traditional bag was absurd at the time. After finishing my school years, I ditched the backpack and never looked back. Now backpacks are everywhere and I’ve been broken. I want in on this action. Enter the Raya Backpack in fall’s trendiest colour, oxblood. Rimanchik is a Montreal based accessories brand that started in 2003. They keep things local and they also manufacture their products in Montreal. I like how streamline and sleek this backpack is. It’s the size of handbag but gives you the hands free advantage without resorting to something messenger style. The Raya Backpack is available online at Rimanchik.com for $260.00.

Ornate Expectations – How to Spend It Magazine

I’m in love with the Ornate Expectations editorial in FT.com’s How to Spend It magazine. It gets all baroque crazy with the season’s trend and lots of antiques. I’ve included my favourite shots from the editorial here but you can see the entire shoot Howtospendit.ft.com. It’s worth pursuing just for the information about all the items in each of the shots. I want – I got Holiday Gift Guide – Part 1

So, this year I lost my mind and I decided to create a holiday gift guide. I’m usually anti-gift guides because I’m not much of a Christmas person and gift guides are a shit ton of work. I don’t know what made me change my mind this year but here we are. People have told me this is a good idea, so I hope you find it helpful or amusing. Tom Ford for YSL at BIG - Patricia Harris Gallery, ROM

BIG at the Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles and Costume – Royal Ontario Museum

A new exhibit has opened at Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles and Costume in the Royal Ontario Museum. BIGshowcases a selection of major pieces from the permanent collection. I was invited to a intimate preview (with Patricia Harris in attendance, eeeee) and managed to get a couple photos. A stunning display, BIG is exclusively drawn from the ROM’s collection of nearly 50,000 textiles and costumes. Showcasing 40 artifacts from around the world, this unique exhibition includes objects assuming their BIG status in a myriad of ways. With some objects publicly displayed for the first time, the installation offers a fresh, new way of exploring the ROM’s renowned collections. BIG continues until Fall 2013. “This installation highlights objects that are BIG,” states Dr. Alexandra Palmer, Nora E. Vaughan Fashion Costume Curator in the ROM’s World Cultures department. She continues, “BIG is not just about size. Even the smallest textile can have BIG personal, social, and cultural value that shifts according to context. BIG brilliantly looks at the meaning of textiles and fashions from around the globe …

I’m Still Obsessed with the Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandals

Yves Saint Laurent is now Saint Laurent Paris and the new website doesn’t have a Tribute shoe anywhere. There are rumour going around that the Tribute Sandal is being discontinued but according to WWD the Tribute line is being reworked and upgraded. I’m still obsessed with them and I hope they are “reworked” too much. With this upcoming design change the urgency to add a pair to my shoe collection has increased. In 2008 the YSL Tribute Sandals started to become the go to shoe for Editors and Celebrities. In my search for information regarding the Tribute’s entry to the market I came across a lot of celebrity references. Apparently, Julliane Moore was the first celebrity to start wearing them There are so many colour combinations and leather choices that I’m not particularly picky about which ones I do buy in the end. I’m not a hot pink person but these are my favourite of the bunch. The purple Tributes are second. images: lyst.com
