Louie Gong x Manitobah Mukluks Gatherer Boot

I have to admit I’m a bit surprised that I’m writing about Manitobah Mukluks. I’m not a fan of Mukluks and I usually cringe whenever I see people wearing them around the city. They are very popular and the Manitobah Mukluks company is as close to the genuine article as you are going to get. I’m a huge fan of Louie Gong though and he’s partnered with Manitobah Mukluks to create a boot even I can love. Louie Gong x Manitobah Mukluks Gatherer Boot is described by Louie: The eagle is a cross-cultural symbol of strength, leadership, and long-term vision. By portraying the eagle on a women’s mukluck with a diving posture, oversized claws, and open mouth, I offer symbolic acknowledgment of strong women of all backgrounds. When wearing this eagle design, each step represents bold movement towards your life goals and leading our families into the next generation. The grey Louie Gong x Manitobah Mukluks Gatherer Boot are pretty damn cool. The boots are available for Pre-order on manitobah.ca for $299 with delivery happening …

i want: Chanel Fall 2012 Nail Polish

Chanel is one of my all time favourite nail polish brands. It looks great, applies easily and lasts long. When I saw Janine post a sneak peak at the Chanel Fall 2012 Makeup and Nail Polish collection I freaked out. The three new Chanel Nail colours are Frenzy (milky greige, with a hint of lavender), Suspicious (bright fuchsia red) and my favourite Vertigo (black with a shimmery red undertone). This beautiful trio will be hitting Chanel counters across the country on August 27, 2012. image: imabeautygeek.com

NKPR 10th Anniversary, Holy Petite & Sweet!

I was lucky enough to attend the NKPR 10th anniversary party. It was held at Natasha Koifman’s (Owner, NKPR) absolutely stunning home in Toronto. I know from previous NKPR parties that the sweets are usually out of this world. This party lived up to those expectations thanks to the amazing sweet table created by Petite & Sweet. The theme of the night was “Love & Candy”, and I have to say, you could really feel the love! Although we had over 250 guests, the atmosphere felt intimate. Looking around my backyard was like looking into an NKPR time capsule. Everyone that attended has made NKPR into what it is today and impacted my life in so many ways. As for the candy portion of the night, my favourite store Petite & Sweet – now featured on the Food Network’s “Sugar Stars” – created a stunning sweet table for the event. Not only did it feature some amazing treats like brownies, cupcakes, chocolate and candy, it also displayed my favourite quotes about love, written in chalk …

i want: Alterna Earrings by MARLU

Who doesn’t need a pair of Neon earrings! I’m in love with these neon beauties from Canadian jewellery brand, MARLU. I wrote about MARLU’s statement jewellery last year on I want – I got. I think these earrings would be a perfect addition to my obnoxious (but popular) neon dress and necklace combination. They are available online for $90 at Ukamaku.com. image: ukamaku.com

i want: 1930s Fine Lace & Ruffle Wedding Gown

I’ve been trolling ShrimptonCouture.com recently and discovered this 1930s Fine Lace & Ruffle Wedding Gown. I never give Bridal a second thought but this wedding dress is just too beautiful not to share. EDIT: The photo was missing for a little bit. It’s been replaced. images: ShrimptonCouture.com

i want: Hermes Editeur Scarves by Hiroshi Sugimoto

If had a few tens of thousands lying around, I’d be buying Hermès Editeur scarves by artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. Hermès Editeur is a limited edition collaboration with visual artists who take their craft and interpret it into a Hermès scarf. They are all very beautiful and expensive. You are basically buying a piece of art on silk with the Hermès Editeur items. Hiroshi Sugimoto’s line is a limited edition run of 140 scarves at $7000 each. The colours are simple but so vibrant and stunning. Hiroshi Sugimoto is a celebrated artist from Japan. Born in Tokyo in 1948, Hiroshi Sugimoto moved to the United States in 1970 to study photography at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, earning a B.F.A. in 1974. There he absorbed the tenets of Conceptualism and Minimalism that continue to inform the technical and intellectual rigor of his work. In 1974 he moved to New York City. In his photographic series, as well as his experiments with sculptural objects, architecture and exhibition design, Sugimoto attempts to highlight and …

i want: Vintage Kimonos from Shrimpton Couture

Shrimpton Couture has some lovely vintage Kimonos from the 1920s and 1930s up on the site now. Cheri helped a long time Kimono owner downsize the collection and some of those pieces are for sale. These two are my favourites. 1930s Deer & Rooster Silk Under Kimono is an absolute gem.  I love the clash of organic and geometric images.  The cute factor is always appreciated and I love the animals. The 1920s Rare Hand Blocked Rayon Kimono reminds me of summer.  The colours really pop out from the white background. images:  shrimptoncouture.com

i want: The Tableware of my Dreams

Oh, if I only had $450 to spare. I would own the tableware of my dreams. Isn’t it beautiful. I got up early Saturday morning to go antiquing in Dundas, Ontario with the boys from Philip Sparks. I was on the search for a 50s style table and chairs set which ultimately didn’t work out.  There is always a lot of vintage tableware at this antique fair.  Some come in complete sets like this but most are not.  These plates are colourful and unique.  I like the jadeite tableware out there but it’s pretty expensive when you come across it.  Not that this set wasn’t expensive.  Apparently it’s from somewhere in Hamilton.  Let me know if you see it kicking around 🙂

i want: Casey Wedge by Schutz

My summer staple shoe is a platform wedge. It’s my favourite style of platform and probably my favourite style of shoe. Platforms give me the extra height I’ve always wanted and the wedge is an easy shoe to wear. I love the little pops of colour in the Casey Wedge by Schutz. Available online at eLuxe (formely Dealuxe) image: eluxe.com

i want: Mattijs x United Nude Fan

The Mattijs X United Nude Fan shoe generates a jaw dropping response. I learned about these beauties after my tweets about my United Nude dream shoe purchase. Twitter friend, @TheDIYCouturier aka Rosalind wrote to tell me she just ordered a pair of United Nude because I inspired her to shop (hee hee, not the first time I’ve heard that). That’s right friends, she pre-ordered these beauties and put my Abstract Rome’s to shame. The Mattijs x United Nude Fan shoes are all about glamour. Designed in collaboration with Dutch fashion designer Mattijs van Bergen for his Catwalk show at London’s fashion week. No surprise the shoes are designed with a concept of pleats as Mattijs is considered to be the Dutch King of pleats. Only 120 Pairs total Limited edition were made. Mattijs van Bergen studied at Central Saint Martins in London before starting his brand in the Netherlands. “One of the most promising young designers” (British Vogue), “Crown prince of Dutch Fashion”, “King of Pleats”(Dutch Elle). Rosalind, you are 1 of 120 lucky women.  …

i want: Roberto Cavalli “Wild Diva” Sunglasses

It pains me to say this but I like something from Roberto Cavalli. I’m a bit shocked to admit it but these Wild Diva sunglasses are pretty killer. Skilfully crafted on the front for a second skin effect, it expresses an impetuous temperament through bold lines and strong traits, underscored by a crocodile/ostrich/shagreen print. Bold chromatic contrasts, from the winter colours that swing from black tobacco to purple and back, to the stronger and more extreme pink, violet, yellow and acid green colours, all with matching or contrasting shaded lenses to add emphasis to the fashion essence of these sunglasses. These sunglasses made their debut on the Fall Winter 2012 – 2013 runway. I’ll be including these in my fall sunglasses hunt. images: courtesy of Roberto Cavalli

Smythe Pre-Fall 2012

Andrea and Christie of Smythe have unveiled their first Pre-Fall collection for 2012.  Now Smythe junkies have more jackets to choose from in a year.   The collection will be available after June 1, making my birthday month even more amazing. I’m a huge Smythe fan but this is the first collection where I wanted every jacket.   The furry ones are calling my name. I love the three coats with the furry details from the collection, but I’m also digging the check blazer with the cropped sleeve (pictured below). It’s very Thom Browne menswear to me. You can find Smythe at the usual suspects: Holt Renfrew, Dealuxe.ca and Ssense.com, Intermix and TNT Woman. images: Courtesy of Smythe.

i want: NARS x Thakoon Nail Polish

NARS x Thakoon Nail Polish My latest nail polish obsession is the NARS x Thakoon Nail Polish collaboration. I’ve been waiting for over a month for this collection to come out. I absolutely love the vibrant colours. I can’t wait to rock an ombre nails with these beauties or use my new nail dotting skills to come up with something. In conceptualizing the shade range, Thakoon was inspired by the vibrant colours found in Indian spice markets. The highly saturated, high-shine shades come in an opaque finish, perfect for spring. Formula is long-wearing, chip-resistant and toluene, formaldehyde and DBP free. The shades are Anardana – Azalea pink, Ratin Jot – Orchid purple, Amchoor – Bright yellow, Kutki – Powder blue and Koliary – Cyan blue. The collection is available now at NARS counters across the country and online at narscosmetics.ca for $21 bucks a piece. NARS has a great formulation for their polish and is one of my favourites. image: courtesy of NARS.

i want: MYKITA MYLON x Moncler

I’m in love with another pair of MYKITA sunglasses and of course it’s another designer collaboration. I’m a proud owner of Alexandre Herchcovitch x MYKITA sunglasses and I loved playing with the MYLON pairs at the trunk show. The new collaboration is with Moncler which really has me freaking out. In 1954 Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni became the first men to conquer the second highest mountain in the world, equipped with specially made down jackets by Moncler. A homage to the mountain and its conquerors was created in the form of the two sunglasses, LINO and ACHILLE, suitable for downhill runs and also as classic sunglasses for everyday use. I love the Lino style because of the curved edges.  I can’t believe they are good for skiing too.  All I need is a Moncler puffy for the slopes. Made from the polyamide-based material MYLON, developed and patented by MYKITA, the frames are very light, extremely durable and individually adjustable to the wearer. Both models are available in the colours red, blue and in a …

i want: Miu Miu Culte Sunglasses

Leave it to Miuccia to come up with more sunglasses that I need to own. This time it’s not a pair of Prada’s I’m drooling over, it’s Miu Miu. These are from the Culte Sunglasses Collection. I love the pentagonal-shaped and brushed gold finish. The sunglasses are also featured in Miu Miu’s latest fashion film, Women’s Tales Saga. The film stars Italian actress Maya Sansa and is set to a haunting soundtrack, written especially for the film by electronic pop trio Au Revoir Simone. Following The Powder Room — Zoe Cassavetes’ dreamy story of opulence and glamour, and MUTA — Lucrecia Martel’s film noir filled with mutant fashion divas — The Woman Dress is again set in an all-female world of glamour and desire. But this time fashion obsession is taken to its most extreme conclusion, in a metaphysical tale of transcendence and ritual. images: miumiu.com

i want: Moncler S Navy Yukari Coat

I’m such a huge Moncler fan after purchasing my Moncler S ‘Shihoko’ Trench coat last year. It’s my favourite spring/fall jacket right now. I really want to get a winter coat by Moncler S but that time has passed and I’m now obsessing over the spring 2012 Moncler S Navy Yukari Coat.  It’s a simple jacket but I love the asymmetric hem and drawstring. images: ssense.com

i want: Iris Van Herpen x United Nude Spring Summer 2012 Haute Couture Shoes

Iris Van Herpen and United Nude teamed up to create the most intense footware for her Haute Couture Spring Summer 2012 show. If I was a collector of expensive, elaborate shoes these would be at the top of my wishlist. I can only look with my shoe budget. Models stepped out in “Fang” shoes with ten sharp teeth to each foot – the product of van Herpen’s fifth successful collaboration with United Nude. The shape of the wedge is so complex that each one consists of fiberglass and carbon fiber, made in a slow molding process If you are looking for more information or perhaps you`d like to order these shoes email to customerservice@unitednude.com images: unitednude.com

Phosphorescent Invasion, the LouLou Jean by Hudson – Spring Summer 2012

If I was 19 again, I would be all over the Loulou Tuxedo Crop Super Skinny Jean by Hudson. The style is inspired by LouLou de la Falaise, Yves Saint Laurent’s muse. She was a big influence in the design of Le Smoking. The thing that makes these tuxedo inspired jeans special is the glow in the dark neon strip that comes to life under black light. The rave going 19 year old me would have freaked. Here is a trippy video that shows the denim in action created by Hudson. The Loulou Tuxedo Crop Super Skinny Jean comes in three colourways: Dark Navy with Phosphorescent Orange stripe, Burgundy with Phosphorescent Pink, and Olive with Phosphorescent Yellow. Holt Renfrew is the place to get this denim from and it will retail for $265. They will be hitting the shelves this February.  On February 10th, there will be a big launch event during NYFW in the Meatpacking District including street art installations, videos and a big party at Scoop. images: courtesy of Hudson Jeans

i want: Jewellery from Erica Weiner

New York based Erica Weiner creates beautiful vintage inspired jewellery. I think the 14k Gold Plate Scissor Necklace would make a perfect gift for the designer in your life. I love these Arrow Hoop Earrings so much. Erica Weiner Jewellery can be found in Toronto at VOCADO, Magic Pony, Drake General Store and Frock. images: magic-pony.com

i want: Dickensian Volume by strangebeautiful

Every season there are nail polish releases that make me go crazy. This season it’s the Dickensian Volume from American company, strangebeautiful. STRANGEBEAUTIFUL Stunningly Provocative and Richly Perverse but wearable colors developed by Jane Schub, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, blends the best elements of beauty, formulation and design. STRANGEBEAUTIFUL colors are deliberately nameless as designer Jane Schub finds it thought provoking and stimulating to remember and refer to each color by its reference or inspiration. STRANGEBEAUTIFUL is super saturated and heavily pigmented with color.(40% – 60%) Therefore the more pigment in the color the better the coverage and the heavier the polish is, as a result each bottle contains bottle with 5-6 steel mixing balls to ensure the color will always be evenly dispersed throughout. As a result STRANGEBEAUTIFUL is extremely long wearing. I have to admit that I’m a bit of a nail polish snob so I was salvating after reading the above description of the company. Jane Schub has drawn inspiration from the dark side of Dickensian times. …

i want: Balenciaga Spring Summer 2012 Dresses

Maxi dresses are catching my eye more and more these days.  I love these two dresses from the Balenciaga Spring Summer 2012 collection.  The fuchsia marble print dress is a throwback from the Cristobal Balenciaga archives. I love the print on the Multicolour flowers zebra print dress. images: Balenciaga.com

I want – I got’s BeachMint Top Picks

So, the BeachMint team are expanding internationally and now JewelMint, StyleMint and ShoeMint are shipping to Canada. Rock-it Promo sent me a sneak peak package from BeachMint consisting of the Victorian Charmer Necklace and the Pauline Wedge in Wine. The jewellery is the quality you would expect for $30.  I have stayed away from Steve Madden shoes since the early 90s but I have to admit I like the Pauline Wedge.  I’m a bit obsessed with e-commerce retailers and packaging.  The packaging for ShoeMint and JewelMint are pretty nice with jewellery box being my favourite. I’ve been browsing the JewelMint, ShoeMint and StyleMint sites more seriously since they started shipping to Canada. Here are my top picks. Shipping costs to Canada are from $9.99 to $19.99. images: jewelmint.com, shoemint.com, stylemint.com
