Chanel Cruise 2011

Remember Now – Chanel Cruise 2011 Full Video

Remember Now, the short film by Karl Lagerfeld for the Chanel Cruise 2011 collection looked slick and the clothes were oh so pretty but it was empty. It was a 16 minute short film that didn’t evoke an emotional reaction from me that wasn’t related to clothing. That’s too bad. The film nerd in me can’t deal with the stupid continuity issues either. I liked having all this media to consume from Chanel about the cruise 2011 collection. It’s always some grand spectacle to take a gawk at. The collection photos are up already and I’m loving about a quarter of the collection and going WTF for a quarter of it. The rest is meh. There are 80+ LOOKS!!! The first 8 looks put me in a good mood and then it when up and down. Some of the white and black stuff I liked and most of the 70s stuff I wasn’t a fan of. WWD has the full collection posted and you can see it on The Fashion Spot. I can’t wait for …

John Lobb

Video – Bespoke Shoemaker John Lobb

The Grumpy Owl posted this wonderful video from The Guardian about Bespoke Shoemaker John Lobb. It’s a fascinating look at how shoes are made. At John Lobb, one of Britain’s last remaining bespoke shoemakers, little has changed since 1849. Perri Lewis unlocks the door to a lost world of craftsmanship. I also found another video about John Lobb that gives you a more detailed look at the shop image: johnlobb.com

Remember Now – Chanel Cruise 2011

I’ve totally bought into Remember Now, the short film by Karl Lagerfeld for the Chanel Cruise 2011 collection. The video does look pretty slick and inviting. I can’t wait to see the whole film. EDIT: the preview video was taken down but see this post for the full video.

Dior Homme - The White Room

Dior Homme – The White Room

I like this moody short film for the Fall 2010 – 2011 Dior Homme collection. Kris Van Assche’s fall 2010 Dior Homme collection is a triumphant affirmation of the house’s aesthetic for the new decade: clean lines, translucent layers of fabric, deconstructionist touches and oversized silhouettes. Quietly iconoclastic, it’s a tempting and elegant proposition for men who have grown out of their skinny jeans. The standout piece of the collection is the floor-length trench, a deceptively light garment that undulated elegantly down the runway in Paris in June. Unveiled under a ring of fluorescent lights, accompanied by the Sisters of Mercy’s “Temple of Love,” the piece mixes bold 80s power dressing with the swaddled folds of fabric Van Assche had witnessed in Indian dress on a trip to the country last August. The collection’s sensuous feeling of movement provided the inspiration for today’s film, created to mark the occasion of Dior Homme’s first UK flagship, which opened this week in the Westfield Center, London. The entrancing vignette is styled by Robbie Spencer and directed by …

FLY16X9 Interviews Karl Lagerfeld

I found a video interview of Karl Lagerfeld by FLY16X9. FLY16x9 presents an exclusive behind the scenes interview with Karl Lagerfeld at the opening of his photo exhibition ‘Farewell to Daylight’ at new York’s PACE/MACGILL GALLERY. I’ve place the interview under the cut because the video autoplays.

Jefferson Hack on Fashion Media in The Era of Digital Beauty

I finally got a chance to view the The Business of Fashion Fashion Pioneers – Jefferson Hack on Fashion Media in The Era of Digital Beauty video. It’s a fascinating interview with Imran from BOF and Jefferson Hack (who is super cute). He’s got some interesting things to say. Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton Documentary

Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton Documentary

I found the Marc Jacob & Louis Vuitton documentary on Youtube. It seems to be missing the last little bit of the documentary but the quality is not bad. However it is only partially dubbed. There are no subtitles either. There is a lot of conversation in French that isn’t translated which is a bit of a shame. I will have to grab the DVD because it’s quite a fascinating movie. From Japan to America, the LV sign dominates the fashion scene. And, one man alone designs the Louis Vuitton creations—the exceptional Marc Jacobs. With unprecedented access to one of the world’s hottest and busiest designers, Loïc Prigent offers an intimate and revealing portrait of the reclusive Marc Jacobs and the world of haute couture. Whether in the offices and workrooms of Paris and New York, the back of his car, or backstage at a fashion show, we see a genius at work. Jacobs endures unimaginable pressure to chart new paths in fashion as he straddles the demands of the Louis Vuitton conglomerate and his …

Vintage Marc Jacobs in Documentary Form

Vintage Marc Jacobs in Documentary Form

I found this vintage Marc Jacobs documentary though someone I follow on twitter named Erich Ben. He has a great collection of YouTube fashion videos. The documentary starts from the beginning of Marc Jacobs’ career and stops at the beginning of his early Louis Vuitton days. Marc is so young in these videos. It’s interesting to compare this early Marc Jacobs to the current one. Do you guys remember some classic Marc Jacobs styles? The pony tail and headband are here for the viewing. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Tim Gunn Critiques Superhero Costumes

Tim Gunn Critiques Superhero Costumes

Wow. As someone who loves the world of superheros and their stories it was great to see the Tim Gunn Critiques Superhero Costumes videos. He approached the subject matter with no judgments and seriousness. The host of the web series Crazy Sexy Geeks, Alan Kistler invited Tim Gunn to discuss superhero fashion throughout the years. They go after everyone: Spiderman, Superman, Superwoman, Catwoman, Batman, Robin, X-Men, Nightwing and The Hulk. Part 1 Part 2 via NPR
