I like the minimal look of the ad campaign. It works perfectly against the super ornate clothing.

Mademoiselle C Trailer

I love me a good fashion documentary and the next movie to take us all by storm will be based on Carine Roitfeld!!

Carine Roitfeld ran French Vogue for 10 years, building a reputation as one of fashion’s most influential movers. Her inner circle of friends includes Donatella Versace, Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld, Mario Testino, Riccardo Tisci, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Alexander Wang. Yet few people outside the fashion world have heard of her…until now.

Mademoiselle C chronicles Carine’s launch of her new magazine “CR Fashion Book.” It gives a rare inside glimpse at the inner workings not only of Roitfeld’s professional world but also her personal life. It is a film about transition, letting the audience watch as Carine moves to New York, starts a new business, and prepares to become a grandmother. And of course, its filled the the models, celebrities, and eccentric personalities that make the fashion world so entertaining.

The film is set to get a release date in September 2013 in the US. No word on Canadian distribution.

Miu Miu Fall – Winter 2013 – 2014 Ad Campaign

I’m obsessing over the Stretch Silk-Blend Midi Dress since I saw this Miu Miu Fall – Winter 2013 – 2014 runway piece in the ad campaign. It just screams simple sex appeal to me.

It’s the exposed shoulders that give this dress that kick I’m in love with.

i got: Cynthia Doll Dress by Collectif

A new clothing shop opened in my neighbourhood called Rosie the Rebel Retro Boutique. My fashion radar spotted it out of the corner of my eye on the way home one day. I jaywalked across Bloor to check it out. Fashion is a calling, literally at times. They carry Rockabilly, Psychobilly and Retro clothing. I soon realized this place would be really bad for my wallet after trying on this cherry dress and crinoline combo. The cherry dress didn’t win my heart this round, it was a 50s style dress from London based, Collectif.

Established in the year 2000, Collectif is an independent 1940s and 1950s inspired vintage reproduction brand based in London. We create garments and accessories that are inspired by genuine vintage patterns, knitting patterns, and fabrics from our extensive archive. (source: Collectif website)

The Cynthia Doll Dress makes me feel as if I should be attending a sockhop with my little white poodle. It’s perfect for the office and I’ll be able to wear it in all seasons. It comes in blue and dusty pink. It retails for £89.50 on the Collective website but I paid around $100 (I think?) for mine at Rosie the Rebel.

Here’s my elevator selfie. I didn’t manage to get a proper full length shot of the dress (no photographer SO here). I paired the Cynthia Doll Dress with my Marni x HM sandals and Zara bomber. If I wanted to take the 50s look a literally I should have worn my white Derby shoes by Rokin or my lavender Worksong brouges.

i want: Ruched Tulle and Silk Dress by Christopher Kane

Ruched tulle and silk dress by Christopher Kane

Now this is an exposed midriff dress I can get behind. It wouldn’t be safe for work but I’d wear it everywhere else. Thank god for Christopher Kane and PPR money. The dress is very vampy and it’s with reason, Christopher was inspired by Bela Lugosi and The Bride of Dracula. The dress is made out of black tulle and silk. The neckline, cuffs and waist are elasticized. It’s beautiful and lot cheaper than some of the Dolce & Gabbana dresses I tried on the other day. The Christopher Kane Ruched tulle and silk dress is available on net-a-porter for (le sigh) $1,910. You can find Christopher Kane at The Room at The Bay in Canada.

Mary Katrantzou x Moncler Fall 2013 – 2014

Oh Hi, Mary Katrantzou x Moncler jackets. What’s that? You want me to stop eating for months on end so I can afford you and your yards and yards of downy goodness. Honestly, that’s sounding like a really good idea because my mind is blown by your stunning beauty. I was really upset when Sacai’s design term was up at Moncler. However, Moncler being the absolute fucking best brought in Mary Katrantzou to take the fashion crazy functional outwear to the next level. They are magnificent and expensive!

For the Moncler M collaboration, Mary Katrantzou took inspiration from the duality found between the interiors of a classic sports car and those of a gypsy caravan. Silhouettes were inspired by the sculptural shapes of Katrantzou’s AW12 collection and the research on car interiors. The chiffon gowns of Katrantzou’s AW12 show are converted into ultralight nylon coats, allowing the experience of wearing a ball-gown to become an everyday possibility and the sculptural silhouettes mimic the shape of a car seat, capitalizing on the versatility of the down jacket. Katrantzou also worked on bespoke brocades for this collaboration, which combine the exceptional technical abilities of Moncler with a hand crafted artisan textile.

Luisaviaroma has some select jackets for preorder. They start at $1323 and go up to $5470. That includes duties and shipping! Matches Fashion and Moncler.com will also be selling the Mary Katrantzou x Moncler collection. Not sure if The Room at The Bay will be picking any of these up as they carry Mary Katrantzou ready to wear.

M∙A∙C x Antonio Lopez

This campaign image for M∙A∙C x Antonio Lopez collection is just breath taking. 70s supermodels Marisa Berenson, Jerry Hall and Pat Cleveland aka Antonio’s Girls look absolutely incredible here. Antonio Lopez is one of the great fashion illustrators and M∙A∙C has created a collection based on his work and muses. I’m absolutely in love with the packaging.

The legendary fashion illustrator’s vibrant energy, brazen attitude and love of life inspire a striking colour collection featuring: Eyes x 6 Palettes, Lips x 3 Palettes and Face Palettes perfect for highlighting natural tones and contours. Each palette displays the fiercely individual face of one of his muses, “Antonio’s Girls,” while each product’s packaging features a drawing by the artist, making these objets d’art to be treasured.

Available on September 12, 2013 at all M·A·C locations and www.maccosmetics.com

The Future in Store Webseries

I’m in love with this new webseries from PayPalCanada called The Future in Store. It talks about the technology developments in the retail industry. It’s hosted by my golf buddy Amber Mac and Doug Stephens, Retail Guru.

Episode 1 features
1. Kate Spade Saturday: http://www.saturday.com
2. eBay Now: http://www.ebay.com/now
3. RedLaser: http://redlaser.com
4. Story: http://story-thestore.com/store

I have to admit that the Kate Spade Saturday shop wall is a really good looking installation. After seeing the eBay Now spot, it looks like personal delivery is going to be a big trend. Hurrier just started in Toronto and it will be interesting to see what other stores they partner with. Red Laser could be very, very dangerous to window shoppers!

Episode 2 features
1. NeighborGoods: http://neighborgoods.net/
2. Fancy: http://www.fancy.com/
3. PayPal innovation at the eBay Inc. Commerce Innovation Centre at New York City
4. Nordstrom: http://shop.nordstrom.com/
5. Nomi: http://www.getnomi.com/

I found Nomi the most interesting in episode 2. It’s very Big Brother but I’d be curious to see how the data is applied to changes in merchandizing and store design.

I’ll continue to post more of the series as they become available.

Dolce & Gabbana is Now Open on Bloor Street

So, Dolce & Gabbana quietly opened on Bloor Street late last week. I happen to know the Assistant Manager and I dropped by to check out the new Designers on the block. Dolce & Gabbana took over the old Louis Vuitton space and structurally it hasn’t changed much. Womenswear, evening wear, jewellery, fragrances and accessories are downstairs. Upstairs is all for the guys with ready to wear, accessories and shoes on hand. There is even an $85,000 watch for sale!

There were so many beautiful things in the store that I had to sneak in a little dress up action. First up is the classic Dolce & Gabbana bustier dress. Everyone who saw my photos on Instagram liked this one the best. It’s a great dress but bustiers don’t tend to fit me right.

Dolce & Gabbana Bloor Street

I managed to try on a couple gowns. I love this white and black lace one. It was about $7500. It was light as air and full of movement.

Another beautiful dress was his black bustier gown. The bustier is hidden underneath the silk. I forgot to tie the dress and make a nice bow in the back. This baby will set you back $9000. I didn’t want to be a dick, so I limited myself to three items to try on. I wanted to try everything though.

The store is pretty gorgeous and not overdone like I expected. They will carry a lot of ready to wear in the store so there should be a selection of those crazy mosaics dresses from Fall 2013 coming in soon. Right now there is a lot of Pre-Fall collection available. The shoe selection is smaller than I expected but look out for those lace pumps and the floral boots. Just amazing! i want: Octopus Necklaces by Lost Apostle

A few weeks ago, I went to an event for Etsy Canada. We were introduced to some of Etsy’s biggest Canadian partners and talked about their Affiliate program. I received a personalized gift bag at the end of it. It was curated with me in mind and featured some designers the Etsy folks we up my alley. That’s how I discovered Lost Apostle.

Lost Apostle is based in Montreal and creates bronze and silver jewellery for the person who doesn’t want something dainty and feminine. We are talking animal skulls, anatomical hearts, flying picks, syringes, feathers and hand grenades.

Octopus Necklaces by Lost Apostle

Octopus Necklaces by Lost Apostle

I received the Human Skull necklace in bronze from the Etsy Canada gift bag but I’m kinda obsessed with Lost Apostle’s Octopus pendants. They come in Silver and Bronze and there is also a choice of leather straps instead of gunmetal. Too adorable.

If that isn’t enough, there are Lost Apostle Octopus earrings to match. I’m dying. Lost Apostle is pretty affordable also with prices starting around $30 and going up to $300. The Octopus necklaces range in prices from $42.24 to $58.08.
