Vitaminwater

I know. You are thinking what does Vitaminwater have to do with fashion. It has nothing to do with fashion and it has everything to do with an interesting pitch I received from Environics. They sent me a couple of bottle of Vitaminwater. It’s the not first time I’ve tried it. I’m pretty indifferent to it as a beverage. Most times I’ve heard of anyone drinking it, they had been drinking heavily the night before.

So when I received the package from Environics I laughed out loud when I discovered their pitch, Vitaminwater, hangover cure. It’s perfect and about damn time. It’s a better tasting Gatorade which has been touted as a hangover remedy by many people I know. The pitch also included some Canadian hangover stats which I found amusing.

fast facts and stats

  • never say never? according to a recent survey, 47% of canadians won’t give up drinking even if it means we’ll be hugging the porcelain god the next day.
  • open bars and two-four (maybe it has something to do with the case of beer?): when asked what their top “hangover-inducing” celebrations are, Canadians ranked weddings (17%) and the may long weekend (11%) at the top of the list.
  • Ontarians love may long weekend: weddings and may long weekend are tied for second place (16%) when it comes to hangover inducing occasions.
  • pop the right pills: most Canadians do not consider taking vitamins before the drinking alcohol to curb hangover symptoms, yet some do rely on hangover pills to help them get through the morning after a night of heavy drinking.

making hangover history

  • The term “hangover” originated in the 19th century, meaning “unfinished business”. it wasn’t until 1904 when the expression was first linked to the meaning: “morning after-effect of drinking too much”
  • If ignored, hangover symptoms could last up to two or three days after alcohol was last consumed
  • Did you know that hangovers are historically associated with stock market crashes? bet this recession has caused some compounded headaches on the trading floor
  • Interesting hangover remedies include: sipping pickle juice, roast beef sandwiches, taking activated charcoal tablets, getting a stimulating scalp massage, eating raw cabbage and drinking a “hair of the dog” gin and hot sauce cocktail to bite the hangover back!
  • Hydration is the best hangover remedy, but only a quarter (24%) of Canadians put this into practice.. hydrating before, during and after drinking alcohol helps to dilute toxins entering the body, reduce stomach irritation and replenish lost fluids

Take what you will of the Vitaminwater hangover cure. I have used it in place of Gatorade and it has done the trick. I’ve also had people tell me that Vitaminwater goes well with Vodka.

I like the LV Astronauts Core Values Ad

What a relief from Madonna’s crotch this Louis Vuitton ad is. I have to admit I really enjoy this picture with the three space traveling trailblazers Sally Ride, Buzz Aldrin and Jim Lovell.

LV Astronauts Core Values Ad

The core values ads do a good job hiding Louis Vuitton, the viewer ends up concentrating on the people in those shots then the handbags.

Ask a Geek: Swamisz Sandals in Toronto

askageeklogo.jpgSometimes readers ask me questions. If they are of value to all my readers I post them online. If you have a question, please feel free to submit it using the contact form. I’ll definitely do my best to answer it.

I want – I got reader Marie wrote:

Message Have you seen or heard of a new sandal called Swamisz? They are made of rubber and come in different colours and I desperately want some for yoga! I know they came out in Australia but if anyone knows where to get them in Canada i would love to know!

When this email first came to me in April, I had no idea of Canadian retailers for Swamisz. They are all natural rubber sandals and not very attractive in my opinion. I have seen them in Toronto now. They can be found at Over The Rainbow in Yorkville. I didn’t happen to see the price so give them a call if you want to find out.

Edit: October 2, 2009 – They are also available from online retailers eco-friendly-footwear.ca.
