I recently purchased some Superfine Denim on sale at Jonathan + Olivia. The style name was Liberty and it came with black sheen. They almost looked like pants instead of jeans.
I don’t have any pictures of myself in them so I leave you with Doutzen being Doutzen instead. They are a great fitting pair of jeans. I have yet to wash them so I’m not sure how the colour and fabric treatment will fare afterwards. We shall see.
Raphael Young is a much talked about up can coming shoe designer. The spring collection is inspired by the samurai. Alas no one in Canada carries his shoes.
The Greta Constantine Ready to Wear Fall 2009 – 2010 show as held at The Courthouse. I had been hearing good things from Kirk and Stephen for months. I got a look at the fabric swatches in the fall, but I never saw the collection. I would have to wait to see this so called amazing collection. So, I’ve been on pins and needles for months wondering what the boys will come up with. I was hearing about dresses named after people I know and how freaking stunning they are.
There was some logistical problems getting into the venue due to all the people there. It’s an interesting venue but I heard if you didn’t have a seat you didn’t see anything. The room had high ceilings and it was a little dark. I was talking with one of the Holts crew and she likened the atmosphere to a Miu Miu show, which was very accurate. The runway was a problem too. There was a section where I was sitting that was wood and incredibly sticky with resin. Many a model got stuck there and we though we might have to save some from falling.
The collection itself lived up to all the hype in my mind. Kirk and Stephen broke down the jersey dress stereotype and added a lot of separates: hot kimono style jackets; fantastic slim pants in black and silver;structured jackets and architectural dresses. The jersey dress was there but now included a black sheer layer over top. The way they looked while moving was stunning. Then came the seatbelt based pieces, my pictures don’t do them justice at all!
They also surprised the hell out of everyone by throwing a small collection of menswear. My jaw dropped, they usually send the boys out in speedos for eyecandy. The best part, the menswear is awesome!
I wasn’t a fan of Marc Jacobs this year. He redeemed himself with Louis Vuitton. I’m so happy my girl Rose (pictured above) got to walk the show. Yes, Marc. Like the John Galliano show, I have video so I’m not going to bore you with photos. You need to see this stuff in motion. However you can see photos of the full Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 RTW collection at Nymag.com.
The John Galliano Fall 2009 – 2010 collection was stunning. I was so glad that John stepped it up just like Alexander McQueen. Paris was getting boring.
Alexander McQueen thank you for bringing something interesting, emotional, strange and masterfully constructed to the runways of Paris. This is his ready to wear people, can you imagine the couture. I die thinking about it. Die, I tell you!
I had to include some video in this post. They are only short clips but once the full video is up I will post it.
I had seen some evidence of changes happening at Holt Renfrew Bloor Street last Wednesday, some of the areas were getting a makeover. Yesterday, I received a tour of the new Contemporary Space on the 3rd floor from John Gerhardt, Holt Renfrew Creative Director. Inspiration for the space was kicked off by his green Comme des Garçons wallet.
Influenced by the growing need for optimism, Holt Renfrew Creative Director John Gerhardt’s design inspiration stemmed from a bright green wallet he received as a gift. “It’s interesting how people respond to colour, particularly bold colours,†said Gerhardt. “I found myself looking at the wallet and feeling happy. It’s amazing how colour transforms our mood.â€
The Contemporary Space is now an explosion of colour and I love it. It’s a visual feast. The space now integrates accessories with clothing which moves it away from the separated Department Store feel to a more boutique shop experience. The clothing is more visible and easier to locate.
“There is a strong nod to the ‘80s in our redesign, with “New Wave†and Japanese influences as well as art influences such as Dan Flavin, Shepard Fairey and Barbara Kruger, infused with current references like fashion’s new-found fascination with Pantone primaries,†said Gerhardt.
There are 3 distinct areas to the space. One is the romantic area which features clothing and accessories in that vein; think 3.1 Philip Lim and Catherine Malandrino. Second is the Minimalist area; think Alexander Wang and Zero + Maria Cornejo. Third is denim which hosts your denim wall and has more relaxing clothes.
They plan on having events on Saturdays in the store and have the stage to make it happen. Another good thing is that every season the space will be switched up to keep everyone on their toes.
