Toronto online classifieds

Craigslist used to be the only choice for trying to sell stuff locally. Now there are two. Ebay has created Kijiji.

Kijiji, which means “village” in Swahili, is a classifieds-style website that offers a free, fun, and easy-to-use way for people in the same city to meet, share ideas, and trade goods and services. Kijiji is a start-up created by a small team of employees within eBay. Kijiji now has local sites in more than 180 cities in 18 countries.
Kijiji is a place where Torontonians can come together to trade a wide variety of goods and services. It is a great place to find a new pet, tickets to tonight’s hockey game, a job, or an apartment. It is also ideal for community postings such as volunteer opportunities or dance classes. All postings are free and no registration is required.

Posting on Kijiji is very easy and you don’t have to register. Anyone who has used Craigslist for posting will notice the difference. The only thing lacking right now for Kijiji is volume, but that will change once the word gets out.

I’m trying to sell a laptop backback on Kijiji right now, I’ve had one inquiry but not takers yet. Here’s the link if you are interested. I tried on Craigslist first, but got no responses.

i want: Red Apple Finds

I got a friendly email the other day notifying me of a shopping website called Red Apple. I had already heard of Red Apple at this point and even visited their site briefly. This email was a friendly nudging to write a post. About Red Apple,

Simply a guide for absolutely-normal-women who want to see their life a bit through rose-coloured spectacles thanks to a pair of sandals, a new bag or some sunglasses. And having a chat with friends in front a coffee. Here you can find pictures, photos, prices and shop addresses. An everyday dress, which like magic becomes made to measure. For you and me.

They have some cute ass branding too, check this out

i want: Nike De La dunks

Nike De La dunks

I’m not one for Nike shoes, but these dunks are so sweet I can forget my hate. While beautiful and fly, these shoes are little out of my acceptable “sneaker price” limit. They probably wouldn’t have my size anyways.

They = Goodfoot>. That’s where you can pick up these babies.

i want: Smythe Les Vests Coats

Many things by Smythe Les Vests

I was reading Fashion Notes in Now Magazine and they mentioned Smythe because of their recent popularity. I decided to see what the fuss was about. They have some beautiful jackets (and a vest) that I have been salivating over.

“Designer development
We love a great Toronto fashion success story, and Christie Smythe ‘s and Andrea Lenczner ‘s tale of global blazer domination has just turned another fantastic page. Their Smythe line of just jackets has been a hit with hometown fashion folks and the Barney’s blonds set in New York City. This spring, London ladies hunting for smart oxford cloth waistcoats and shrunken double-breasted sailor jackets can pick up their collection at UK style mecca Harvey Nichols. www.smythelesvestes.com

Get out and Accessorize

There is a new British import in Canadian retail and it’s Accessorize. Open for about 2 weeks now I decided to take a quick look at their new Queen street store this morning.

I was pretty impressed with the selection as it totally overwhelmed me when I walked in. It’s not a big store people, but it’s packed to the gills with product. I was also happy with the layout of the store. They organize items by colour combination, making it easy to find items that will work well together. They have a ton of handbags, scarfs, shawls, hats, earrings, and necklaces. Everything in the store is private label and you won’t find it anywhere else. The selection changes weekly so accessory nuts will always have something to look at.

Accessorize is huge in Britain and Europe, and are doing well in Canada. I was told their expansion goal is 10 stores a year in Canada. So far the GTA, Vancouver and Ottawa are lucky enough to have stores. After some googling, I found out that the previous owner of Body Shop Canada is the one responsible for bringing Accessorize to Canada. (source) I also discovered that Accessorize tried and failed to break into the American market in 2002. (source). Another good article can be found here.
