DUY x Aldo Fall Winter 2011 – 2012

Aldo Shoes is on a collaboration roll too.  During Rouge Fashion Week they partnered with Greta Constantine on some limited edition footwear.  DUY paired up with Aldo during LG Fashion Week for a limited edition collection of accessories. This collection of elegant and slightly rebel shoes and accessories pays homage to his Muse, her sophistication and distinctive sense of aesthetics. Faithful to her vision, the various pieces of this collection integrate the elements that made Daphne Guinness famous: leather, textured materials (python, lace), prints (leopard) and fur (pony), caramel hues and dark shades (grey and black). The FW 2011 ALDO collection of shoes and accessories for DUY is an stunning blend of radical chic, flexibility and accessibility. A collection which truly combines modernism, sophistication and elegance.

Greta and Ezra Constantine Fall Winter 2011 – 2012

I had a little peek of a few items from the collection at various times prior to the show. First visit was jersey dresses and the second visit was the long melton wool kimono inspired jackets. There was talk of velvet in the studio as I swung the jacket over my shoulders. Greta in velvet, I thought, that could be interesting. Little did I know that velvet would be everywhere this Toronto Fashion Week. Kirk and I talked about the inspiration which included the Orient and a link between past and future.       The show was back at Audi. I like the venue but it’s shitty to take pictures in. Of course, torontolife.com captured the entire Greta Constantine Fall Winter 2011 – 2012 collection. They have a great photographer that got way better shots than me. The collection surprised me in a good way. It wasn’t just jersey dresses; Kirk and Stephen were dressing for a Canadian winter. Greta Constantine’s Fall Winter 2011 – 2012 collection is romantic and sultry. The colours were …

Mary Katrantzou Fall Winter 2011 – 2012

I pretty much ignored fashion during my Whistler vacation and I`m still catching up. It`s hard to believe but true. Mary Katrantzou`s fall winter 2011 – 2012 collection was amazing, as always. She used Chinese porcelain, Fabergé eggs, Meissen and coromandel screens as influences in this collection. I usually don`t associate Mary Katrantzou with great pants but there where some nice ones this season. The clothing is such a visual delight and even the shoes got in the act. images: vogue.com

Elle Canada’s 10th Anniversary Party

Elle Canada had their 10th Anniversary a few weeks ago and of course held a party. I wore a dress from the Greta Constantine spring summer 2011 collection. I was going for a total monochromatic red look but I was missing the red handbag and shoes. I need to rectify that big time. There was a video made from the night and I made the final cut. See 1:45. I’ve place the video after the jump because it autoplays. Check your sound levels too before checking it out.

I want – I got takes Vancouver and Whistler – ROXY All Star Snow Camp

I wasn’t interested in snowboarding. I was a happy skier who didn’t really understand the appeal of these kids riding around on one plank and their feet strapped to it. Thanks to Seema Dhillon and Kelly Etsell of Roxy was provided the opportunity to learn how to snowboard with the ROXY All Star Snow Camp at Whistler Blackcomb. The Roxy Snow Camp is a two day snowboard and ski camp for legal age women of all abilities from absolute beginner to experts. The idea of the camp is to give women a chance to learn or improve in a women friendly environment. All the instructors are amazing women riders who are there to impart their wisdom to the attendees. It’s pretty cool to have these great role models to learn from and break the male stereotype of hardcore riders. This program is designed for women over the age of 19 in all skill levels from their first stages of skiing to those who like to dabble in the park. This is a warm positive environment …

Complexgeometries Fall Winter 2011 – 2012

Complexgeometries held their fall winter 2011 – 2012 presentation at The Westside Gentlemen’s Club. That’s right, a strip bar. Designer Clayton Evans had colour and collaborations on the mind for the season. It’s a surprisingly colourful fall winter 2011 – 2012 collection for Complexgeometries and I’m not complaining. The textile evolution of the line into fabrics other than jersey is progressing with charmeuse, silk, mohair, suede and wool. Collaborations came in the form of jewellery and shoes. Complexgeometries partnered with fellow Montreal designer, Mireille Boucher of Harakiri. See the Complexgeometries fall winter 2011 – 2012 presentation video by Jason Last. The towering platform boots came out of the minds of LD Tuttle and Complexgeometries. Clayton tells me they are 9 inches high. I’m simultaneously scared and salivating. It’s an extra 9 inches of height. Who the hell knows what I’ll use it for but I want it. I’d probably scare small children and some men. Do these qualify as Manrepller shoes? Ha Ha.  Thankfully there are some more reasonable short boots available in the collaboration …

Miss Sixty and Killah Spring Summer 2011 Preview

There is no way I’m going to like anything at this Miss Sixty/Killah spring summer 2011 preview, I thought to myself. My Miss Sixty loving days were over and I guess I considered myself too grownup to like the youthfulness of the brand anymore. I was wrong on a couple things. I realized that Miss Sixty has grown up a little bit. The clothing wasn’t as outrageous as it used to be and there were a lot of wearable pieces. Miss Sixty’s spring summer 2011 collection was influenced by the 80s (of course), the 50s, orchids and colour.  I was amazed it was only obnoxious in small amounts. Top picks for me is the vibrant pink leather motorcycle style jacket and the bright, neon like denim. These two items are super obnoxious, especially the denim. Amazing that the collection has gotten a bit more mature but it’s the few crazy pieces that attract my magpie eyes. Killah looked to tribal prints, irony, neon and racing as influences for spring summer 2011. This collection was very …
