The guys from SHOWstudio shoot model, Ming Xi in various iconic pieces from the Spring Summer 2011 Haute Couture collections. Designers featured include Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, and John Galliano for Christian Dior. I’ve embedded the fashion film featuring Ming Xi here on the site but I urge you to check out the SHOWstudio site because each Haute Couture look get an in depth video treatment like the Givenchy one I posted a couple weeks ago. These videos give you an up close look at the dresses and talks about significant design details. Plus, there is an interesting interview with Ming.

Jean Paul Gaultier x Roche Bobois
Way back in May I told you about the ELLE Decoration Suite by Jean Paul Gaultier which talked about a collaboration between the designer and Roche Bobois. The collection has finally gone into production and wwd.com had a story and some images. I had to share.

ELLE Decoration Suite by Jean Paul Gaultier
Jean Paul Gaultier is collaborating with French furniture brand Roche Bobois. It will be released in the second half of the year. Gaultier was invited to renovate Elle Decoration suite which is situated on the top floor of the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris. It was a former apartment designed by Jacques Carlu, the architect behind the Palais Chaillot in the 1930s.
“Clothes are my job, and as I only know how to dress, I dressed this ELLE Decoration suite in the Cité de l’architecture & du patrimoine, with various touches that already grace my collections.
First, the marine touch.
Navy stripes are deployed and deformed on the walls, they are draped and curl around the furniture, a little “marine morphing†lounge that disappears in the white canvas.
Then comes the green touch. Nature opens its doors !
Plants are invited in, a garden is printed on the walls! Ivy weaves into the sofa; lichen grows over the woven chairs in the shade of a tree, and moss, like green velvet, carpets the stone, plants tumble down in steps, hiding in a net.
The nude touch, satin skin :
Fabric unfolds on the walls of the bedroom and forms a powdery velum on the ceiling. The corset dress of a fairground doll becomes the bed’s giant quilt. In this room, lingerie, a lace that fishnets on the carpet and is mirrored in the window panes.
For the reflective touch, the terrace !
Paris and the Eiffel tower resonate and multiply in facets shaped like diamonds, jewels, accessories for the sky and clouds, which play on a chequered mirror on the floor, the shiny lining of a cement grey coating.
Clothes have gone from one state to another as we pass from one room to another.â€
Jean Paul Gaultier
I found a video on elle.fr about the Jean Paul Gaultier project. It’s in french but you get a good look at the rooms. The apartment was also decorated by Maison Martin Margiela in 2009 and Christian Lacroix in 2008. I’ve also dug up video from elle.fr about those individual projects too. Since they all autoplay I’ve included them under the cut.
Fashion Show Venues – Menswear Fall 2010

Wallpaper has featured some of the venues from the Fall 2010 menswear shows. Here are a few of my favourites. Adam Kimmel’s presentation was just creepy. Check out Tommy Ton’s photos from the Adam Kimmell show.

I love the long white runway with high wall at Lanvin.

Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring 2010
Jean Paul Gaultier was my favourite show of the Spring 2010 couture season. It did all the right things: it was a spectacle and the details were magnificent. Mexico and the movie Avatar (which I think will be a trend influence unfortunately) inspired this collection.
I thought the multi-colour eye makeup was really beautiful looking. It was fitting for a show where the colours were rich and vibrant.
The accessories are captivating. I love the piles and piles of bracelets and necklaces. I could see Lady Gaga and the late Isabella Blow wearing the ornate hats. Perhaps Tavi will take up the reins since she likes big hats too.
I loved the woven leaf details of the handbags. I’m not a fan of cowboy boots in any way but I found myself liking the green ones.

i want: Jean Paul Gaultier x Melissa
Jean Paul Gaultier x Melissa
This shoe is putting me over the Melissa edge, I was tottering on it with Zaha Hadid collaboration. I wonder what it feels like on.
Jean Paul Gaultier was one of the first designers to ever collaborate with Melissa back in 1982. Since then, the Brazilian brand of plastic shoes has worked with the likes of Mugler, Patrick Cox, Karim Rashid, Alexandre Herchcovitch, the Campana Brothers, and more recently Vivienne Westwood ,and Zaha Hadid. Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2009 – 2010 Ad Campaign
This is an unusual campaign where Raquel Zimmermann plays both a man and the woman. What strikes me most about the campaign in the Dr Martens in image above. Are these the final product? Is this the final product of the hint I posted? If they are, oh boy!

What does Barbara think?
I was reading the Buyers Report from WWD on the Fashion Spot and noticed that Barbara Atkin, vice president, fashion direction from Holt Renfrew talks about the collections from a retail perspective.
Milan
“Although Milan started as a somber season, it ended on a high note by offering a variety of beautiful and luxurious clothing with an infusion of newness. We saw a combination of the strict and subdued juxtaposed against a kaleidoscope of color, print and detail, all adding up to a decadent, luxurious bohemian style. We saw influences from the Seventies with long, lean silhouettes and covered-up clothes playing against the short and swinging. The ‘separates’ dressing that had its roots in the Seventies is making a strong return. We will be looking for luxurious coats; cropped or shapely jackets with accented shoulders; soft, folkloric dresses, blouses and skirts; cardigans and sweater coats; skinny and cropped pants, and man-tailored suits. We will be slightly increasing our budget over last year, as we believe our customer will continue to come to us looking for the new. Our favorite collections out of Milan were Prada, Marni, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Jil Sander and Pucci.”
Paris
“Paris is the grand finale to the season, reconfirming its position as incubator of new ideas; from bold, confident power women at YSL, Akris and Balenciaga, to the soft romance of light, seasonless clothes in a kaleidoscope of prints and materials as seen at Dries Van Noten, Chloé, Jean Paul Gaultier and Nina Ricci. Key elements include strong-shouldered jackets, enveloping coats, easy knits, feminine dresses and blouses that will soften the masculine tailoring, and hemlines — whether long, short or asymmetric — that add newness. Paris is the city where we hunt for new names and this season we will buy Commuun, Sacai and To Long Nam. The collections we loved were YSL, Balenciaga, Akris, Dries Van Noten, Nina Ricci and Lanvin.”

Hermès Ready to Wear – Fall Winter 2008- 2009
If you are looking for trends, don’t come to Hermès. There clothing doesn’t follow the trends (lets face it, there market isn’t looking for the latest trend). They make very high quality pieces and I was quite taken with the coats this year.
