Dandi Maestre Spring 2010 Lookbook

Toronto based, Dandi Maestre’s colourful Spring 2010 jewellery caught my eye at the Holt Renfrew Pop up shop. I loved seeing this burst of colour in her designs. She recently send me her new lookbook and it’s stunning. The line is branching from jewellery to include more accessories that still fit with her signature style. I love it. There are a lot of photos but I can’t help but share this with you all. Dandi Maestre can be found at Holt Renfrew, the AGO, Thieves Boutique and Ziliotto Designs in Toronto. Check out the website to find other locations across Canada and the US. images: courtesy of Dandi Maestre

geekiviews: Jean Leggings by Joe’s Jeans

I received a package containing a pair of Zip Ankle Jean Legging in Black by Joe’s Jeans from Holt Renfrew PR just before Christmas. Jean Leggings were never something I would have tried before this package arrived. I hate to say it, I’ve drunk the koolaid, I like them. When I pulled them out of the magenta bag, they looked a little small. I’ve come to realize that you need to buy them smaller than you think. They are denim and do stretch a bit. They are comfortable, it was the first thing that surprised me. They are like wearing non-denim leggings. The fabric is stretchy and soft. The zippers on the side make it easy to put on and remove. I checked out the stash at Holt’s. They have a ton of different styles included distressed denim, acid wash and  tie dye. The price range is $116 – $140. The pair I have are $128. I thought it was hilarious that the distressed denim ones cost $140 even though from a production standpoint I …

Adidas Originals Spring 2010

I attended the Adidas Spring 2010 preview day where I saw the Adidas Originals Spring 2010 collection. I also saw the adidas by Stella McCartney and Jeremy Scott for Adidas Spring 2010 collections during the same visit. There wasn’t too much from the Originals collection that grabbed me. I love the yellow hi tops and the patchwork poncho. images: courtesy of Adidas

Jeremy Scott for Adidas Spring 2010

I attended the Adidas Spring 2010 preview day where I saw the Jeremy Scott for Adidas Spring 2010 collection. I also saw the adidas by Stella McCartney Spring 2010 collection during the same visit. Jeremy Scott for Adidas is outrageous. At first, I wasn’t really sure what to make of it all. After digesting his design style and wearing some of his stuff for a photoshoot, I have to admit I like some of the ideas Jeremy comes up with. I guess this runs in the it’s so bad it’s good territory. I also like that the line is fairly androgynous. The shoes are my favourite part of the line. They are so ridiculous.  I would get a kick out of wearing them. images: courtesy of Adidas images: courtesy of Adidas

Adidas by Stella McCartney Spring 2010

I attended the Adidas Spring 2010 preview day where I saw the adidas by Stella McCartney Spring 2010 collection. This season Stella expands to include Triathlon and Cycling. I had no idea that there has been Golf clothing in the line for a few seasons. I’ve always really liked the Adidas by Stella jackets and sweaters. There are always some interesting details. This season zippers and metallics caught my eye. It’s funny that she’s even following the jean leggings trend except her leggings aren’t denim. Adidas by Stella McCartney is available at Holt Renfrew. images: courtesy of Adidas.

Livestock has received the first drop of shoes and will be carrying the Stormtrooper and Vader sneakers. I’ve heard that they will also be available for sale online in January.

Mark Fast Cocktail at Ame

Mark Fast was in town last week for a Spring 2010 preview. I wasn’t able to attend the preview during the day but I went to Ame for a cocktails in his honour. Mark is from Manitoba originally. He studied at Seneca College in Ontario briefly before going to London. He attended the prestigious Central Saint Martins and got his BA and MA. Mark designs by hand on a domestic knitting machine. His work is formed onto the body as he knits, and he has devised innovative stitching techniques, blending lycra with viscose, angora or wool. He is inspired by the endless possibilities of lycra yarns, sculpting areas of tension and areas of volume over the body. Mark’s fascination with the cinema drives his creative process as he channels the energy of the characters who inspire him into his knits. Obsessed with texture, Mark’s most recent work explores the relationship of garments to the wearers body. I didn’t realize the work that goes into a Mark Fast dress until I saw the models milling about …

There are a few online retails for G.V.G.V but no shops outside of Japan. images: eastnews.ru

Toywatch Spring 2010 Preview

I was invited to see the Toy Watch preview awhile back. I hadn’t heard of Toy Watch at the time of the invite so I did some investigation. Toy Watch started in Milan and came to North America in 2006. Their whole motto is combing high design with accessible materials, namely plastic, rubber and other non luxury materials. The preview was a vehicle to showcase the new Toywatch Jelly collection. The Jelly is made of soft, pliable silicone and the watch face is interchangeable. Every colour of the rainbow is available in super bright hues. You can mix and match with possibilities of over 72 different versions.  The Jelly’s retail for $250.00. I was super lucky for this preview and was given a Toywatch. It took me a very long time to finally decide on the Toy Watch Neon Chronograph Plasteramics in Atomic Orange.  I love Neon. I loved it in the 80s as a kid and still love it now.  I describe Toywatch to people as the Swatch of the 2000s. Check out the gallery …

The impeccable Celine Spring 2010 has hit the floor at Holt Renfrew, the exclusive retailer in Canada. I had to check it out myself. The clothing lives up to the pictures. Just to refresh your memory here is the Celine Spring 2010 video. images: the Fashion Spot

i got: Fashematical by Fashematics aka Jonathan Zawada

Fashematical by Fashematics aka Jonathan Zawada Fashematics is the brilliant website by Jonathan Zawada. It a blog that combines math and fashion. I’m so in love with it. Jonathan created an amazing zine recently and I immediately ordered it. This book was published to commemorate the 50th fashematics equation created for Zawada’s fashematics.com blog. Jonathan created this zine of his favourite looks from the Spring/Summer 2010 runway shows, reinterpreting the models as part of either a horde of zombies or an army of robots. It is a flip-flop zine that reads inwards from both covers beginning with either a Zombie Karl Lagerfeld or Android Lagerfeld sticker. Features clothes by Prada, Bernhard Willhelm, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Chanel and more… $16 (AUD) for international shipping. BUY IT HERE! I’m loving the robots more than the zombies but it’s all a lot of fun. images: fashematics.com

Richly Hawtin Spring 2010

I never thought I would be staring at the collection from Richard (Richie) Hawtin, a DJ and electronic musican whom I’ve spent more than a few sweaty nights dancing my ass to. But here it is Richly.Hawtin. The label Richly.Hawtin was established in 2008 Tokyo, Japan by Richard Hawtin and Isolde Richly. Inspired by their shared love of Japanese culture and design Richly.Hawtin finds harmony within the sensitive balance of strong line management and muted color arrangement. Just like Richard’s music, the collection is minimal and very cool. Japanese retail shops carry the line but it looks like you can order online too. images: Gradientmagazine.com
