I want – I got takes Vancouver and Whistler – Visiting Orb Clothing

During the Vancouver portion of my trip, I visited Orb’s Vancouver flagship store and headquarters. Orb is a Vancouver based women’s sport lifestyle clothing line that started in 2001. Orb is part of the Global Collective Design company, established by Vancouverites by Glenn Taylor and Leslie Lee in 1992. The Global Collective Design company now has two labels that they design and produce: Arson and Orb.  The two brands also have sub brands Orion and Orb Outerwear. Orb is empowered. The intent of Orb is to inspire all to live empowered lives of generosity; creating and attracting brilliance, beauty and well-being. The Orb design triad of mind, body and soul represents an active, fashion-forward lifestyle, designed to enhance the momentum of people engaged in living purposeful lives – to live like you mean it! Orb is very big on corporate responsibility and have implemented ways of reducing waste in their business practices. You can read more about those initiatives on the Orb website. They also have manufacturing initiatives to reduce harmful chemicals. They also incorporate …

Line Spring Summer 2011 Top Picks

I really enjoyed the Line Spring Summer 2011 collection at LGFW in October of last year. John and Jennifer decided that it was time to take Line forward and produce a whole collection of separates and dresses instead of just knits. The verdict is in, and they do a good bottom. These are my top Line picks from the Spring Summer 2011 lookbook. I’m really loving the leather shorts. images: courtesy of Line

Rodarte x Opening Ceremony Spring Summer 2011

UPDATE: March 27, 2011. The collection is available at Holt Renfrew right now. Rodarte collaborated with Opening Ceremony for a small Spring Summer 2011 collection. Holt Renfrew will be carrying the line in Canada. I got the scoop on some of the styles you can expect to see in Holts and they are pictured below. Unfortunately there will be no Tapestry Fringe Cape or Bandeau Swing Dress. Overall, the collection really isn’t my style. I have some favourites with the tapestries. I like the Aztec Intarsia Sweater and Stained Gauzy Button Down. I don’t know what to make of some of it. Pieces like the Lace-Up leather shorts just leave me baffled, so ugly. images: openingceremony.us

ToyWatch Spring Summer 2011 Preview

My favourite watch company, ToyWatch came to town to show off what’s going on for spring summer 2011. I’ve been mourning my beloved Neon Chronograph Plasteramics in Atomic Orange since the clasp broke and render it unwearable. I’m awaiting a replacement and I hope it’s the same.  My wrist hasn’t been the same since. ToyWatch introduced a kids line this season. The new styles this year are solid black or solid white. This is a very big trend I’m noticing in watch land that is keeping in step with the bright colour trend. At the preview, I got to see some of the Missoni x ToyWatch collaboration. This was pretty exciting. They are a little hard to wear in my opinion but oh so very beautiful. They aren’t your everyday watch, much to pretty. Various retailers across Toronto and Canada carry ToyWatch, check the website for more info.

Rocaille Spring Summer 2011 Preview

I love hearing about new Canadian brands. Rocaille is a Vancouver based and was started in 2010 by Amanda He when she decided to explore a creative career instead of the investment banking world she occupied. Amanda sources antique items and turns them into one of a kind pieces. ROCAILLE is modern by design and inspired by classical periods. We scour the globe for unique vintage pieces and delight in the unabashed sense of adventure and discovery as each item of jewellery is deconstructed and then transformed. The antiquity of each resurrected find is enhanced through reinterpretation and reinvention. Simply put, every ROCAILLE jewellery is one of a kind. Rocaille is beautiful and I love that each piece is unique.  I like the clash of antique with a modern style. They would be perfect for black tie events.  Currently you can purchase Rocaille online at www.rocaille-design.com.

Danier Spring Summer 2011

I attended the Danier Spring Summer 2011 preview a few months back and got to play with some of the pieces that will be available in store soon. Exploration is central this season, unveiled through safari silhouettes and tribal details. Graphic animal prints and exotic Moroccan-inspired embroidery are incorporated into accessories, while utilitarian items like a leather trench or slim-cut bomber are sure to be adopted as wardrobe staples for the season. Accessories and garments in an upbeat palette of poppy, fuchsia, violet, teal and citrus make for daring dressing this season. Using colour as the inspiration and statement point of an outfit, DANIER’s collection invites a pop of interest into your wardrobe with a multitude of hothouse hues. Whether it’s a bright and bold accessory or an eye-popping bomber, this season colour takes center stage. Finally, sporting gear is made glamorous with the new take on athletic chic. A lineup of slick sports-style separates make up this season’s all stars. From striped hoodies and tanks too cool for the gym, to micro shorts and …

i want: Tila Sleevless Jacket by Club Monaco

Obsessed is a good way to describe how I feel about the Club Monaco Tila sleevless jacket. The oracle helped me breakdown the perfect looks to pair with it as I was stumped. Now I see them paired with a white shirt and my Gap wide leg trouser jeans (courtesy of Gap). From the picture, it could also work with an easy summer dress. A tunic and leggings would be a good bet also. images: clubmonaco.com

Miss Sixty and Killah Spring Summer 2011 Preview

There is no way I’m going to like anything at this Miss Sixty/Killah spring summer 2011 preview, I thought to myself. My Miss Sixty loving days were over and I guess I considered myself too grownup to like the youthfulness of the brand anymore. I was wrong on a couple things. I realized that Miss Sixty has grown up a little bit. The clothing wasn’t as outrageous as it used to be and there were a lot of wearable pieces. Miss Sixty’s spring summer 2011 collection was influenced by the 80s (of course), the 50s, orchids and colour.  I was amazed it was only obnoxious in small amounts. Top picks for me is the vibrant pink leather motorcycle style jacket and the bright, neon like denim. These two items are super obnoxious, especially the denim. Amazing that the collection has gotten a bit more mature but it’s the few crazy pieces that attract my magpie eyes. Killah looked to tribal prints, irony, neon and racing as influences for spring summer 2011. This collection was very …

Charlotte Olympia Spring Summer 2011

Charlotte Olympia is a girl who loves her platforms.  These shoes from the spring summer 2011 collection give a lot of extra height but are a bit quirky.  I really love the wedge ones. Charlotte Olympia is available at The Room in The Hudson’s Bay images: Charlotte Olympia’s facebook page

i want: Gap Spring Summer 2011

There are a few things from Gap’s spring summer 2011 collection I have my eyes on. I love the Pale Denim ruffle top. It reminds me of Lanvin a little bit. The Chambray denim hooded parka will be a good substitute for that Lanvin x Acne denim jacket I never bought. The white skirt is heavily influenced by Jil Sander’s spring summer 2011 silhouette. It wasn’t a silhouette that I liked at first but it has been growing.

Paris Li Spring Summer 2011

I saw Paris Li’s new spring summer 2011 collection at the launch event for Ukamaku, a Toronto based online retailer specializing in Canadian fashion. I really liked the print pieces from her collection.  Easy dressing for summer with a bright pop. Paris Li can be found online at Ukamaku or at York Choice in Bayview Village, 2901 Bayview Avenue. Private appointments can also be made. images: courtesy of Paris Li

Catherine Malandrino x Lacoste Spring Summer 2011

Yes, yes, I know. More collaborations. I like this one between Catherine Malandrino and Lacoste for spring summer 2011. It’s the little pleated tennis dresses. LACOSTE has partnered with world-renowned French designer Catherine Malandrino to create a romantic and youthful new women’s collection for Spring 2011. The pairing couldn’t be more perfect, blending ultra-femininity and “joie de vivre”, the core of each brand’s philosophy. The LACOSTE + MALANDRINO Collection begins with an unexpected encounter of two worlds with a shared French heritage. The fusion of masculine sportif with a feminine perspective creates a new aesthetic – sensual, strong and Paris/New York chic. A wardrobe of fundamental, timeless pieces designed for a feminine, active life. Catherine Malandrino’s classic dress-making techniques of draping, shirring and a unique cut to accentuate the curve of a woman’s body are applied to the iconic LACOSTE polo. A new dimension of lifestyle-wear for a woman in motion. These two looks are my favourite.  I’m all about the maxi length right now.  The classic tennis outfit never finds itself on my bad …

Oliver Spencer Spring Summer 2011

Oliver Spencer is a British menswear label that recently opened a store on Queen Street West. I stopped by the opening party to check it out. It was pretty packed so I didn’t get to see a lot of the clothing. I did end up buying a beautiful Il Bussetto bifold wallet in vibrant green leather. I did manage to snag the Spring Summer 2011 lookbook which I’ve scanned. Queen Street is turning into the menswear strip with the addition of Oliver Spencer. There are a lot of great shops along Queen for you guys. Oliver Spencer 962 Queen Street West Toronto 647 348 7673
