Givenchy Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

Can I have a Givenchy surfboard please?

I love the clash of two things I love in this ad campaign, Givenchy and Surfing.

I’ve never surfed before (only Boogieboarding in Barbados as a child) but I’m really attracted to life by the water and board sports.

Mariacarla Boscono is looking great in the ads and this makes me happy since I really didn’t like her YSL SS12 ads.

OBJECT by George Antonopolous for Danier Spring Summer 2012

OBJECT, the collaboration from George Antonopolous and Danier Leather kicks it up a notch for Spring Summer 2012 with lots of colour. I’m drooling.

I’m impressed by this collaboration. George, how the fuck did you get Danier to agree to all this colour? Canadians aren’t know for their colourful ways and I applaud Danier for listening to George and taking this colour risk. I hope Canadians get it and jump into colour this summer.

I seriously love the whole collection.

Bravo George and bravo Danier. I can’t wait to see what else you guys come up with in the future.

i want: Balenciaga Spring Summer 2012 Dresses

Maxi dresses are catching my eye more and more these days.  I love these two dresses from the Balenciaga Spring Summer 2012 collection.  The fuchsia marble print dress is a throwback from the Cristobal Balenciaga archives.

I love the print on the Multicolour flowers zebra print dress.

Chanel Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

Chanel Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

I had to do a double take when these Chanel Spring Summer 2012 ad campaign shots came out. What the hell was Joan Smalls doing in a Chanel ad. My head was exploding (this was a good thing in this situation). First, Indian girls in the Chanel Pre-Fall 2012 show and now Joan Smalls in the latest ad campaign. I like this trend.

Chanel Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

As for this ad campaign overall. Joan doesn’t have as many solo shots as Saskia. The photos are lovely but ultimately pretty boring.

Dandi Maestre Spring Summer 2012

Dandi Maestre has once again created a visually stunning lookbook for the Spring Summer 2012 collection. Her photos are always very colourful with a wonderful cast of characters with interesting faces. Dandi is one of my favourite Toronto jewellery designers. Her pieces are handmade in Canada and use organic materials such as antlers, bull horn, rough amber and emeralds, reclaimed wood, natural seeds and nuts, elements found on shores, in rivers, jungles and forests.

The Spring Summer 2012 collection is called Raw.

“The raw beauty I find in people and nature inspires my new sculptural pieces. I see my work as artwork, where there isn’t anything too outrageous.

I believe in uniqueness . Nature is unique, and so are my designs, each one of a kind, individual and raw. Beauty is in all of us and I want to make people feel this. My work is all about texture and imperfection, just as us.” -Dandi Maestre

Dandi Maestre has a showroom in Toronto at 386 Huron Street. You can also purchase her designs online.

I want – I got’s ALDO Rise Spring Summer 2012 Top Picks

Aldo partnered with six designers for the Spring Summer 2012 collections. The collaboration was nameless previously but now it has a name, Aldo Rise. Participating for Spring Summer 2012 is JW Anderson, Preen, Faster Mark Fast, Libertine, Christian Cota and Cushnie et Ochs. Aldo created a great tumblr blog for the collection and enlisted the help of  Tommy Ton and The Coveteur to take lots of photos during fashion week. They captured a  lot of great images to see and the Aldo Rise Tumblr archive is a good place to start.

I’m a big fan of the collection.  Here are my top picks.  It’s going to be hard to decide which pairs to pick up.

the shOws - CALLA Spring Summer 2012

CALLA is one of the four designers that showcased their Spring Summer 2012 collections with the the shOws at the Ritz-Carlton. the shOws is the brainchild of Paola Fullerton.

the shOws - CALLA Spring Summer 2012

“Our aim is to put the spotlight on Canadian Designers, Hair and Makeup Artists and Models and build a property that benefits not only our designers, artists and retailers but also our supportive sponsors, by showcasing the very best of Canadian talent at home and abroad to our media, buyers and stylists.

The purpose of The ShOws is to bring together our most talented and creative Canadian designers each season and allow them to present their collections here in Toronto to the fashion industry without incurring any production costs themselves. We want to support them here at home and give them every possible opportunity to continue to build their brands.” – Paola Fullerton, Founder & Creative Director

Calla Haynes continued her digital print mastery and delighted the crowd with a collection that sat perfectly on the edge of femininity without being too saccharine. The inspiration for Spring Summer 2012 was translating the feeling of being at a festival and hearing great music into prints and colour. The collection played with different colours and prints as well as textures.  Tweed contrasted with marble like digital prints.

The CALLA Spring Summer 2012 collection also made it’s first debut on Style.com. The video on style.com gives you a close up of the prints and different textures in the collection that my video can’t provide. It’s these details that make the collection so special.

Jean-Pierre Braganza is one of the four designers that showcased their Spring Summer 2012 collections with the the shOws at the Ritz-Carlton. the shOws is the brainchild of Paola Fullerton.

Jean-Pierre Braganza is a Toronto ex-pat who has shown at London Fashion Week since 2004. He worked with Roland Mouret before starting his own label. Jean-Pierre was my favourite of all the shOws designers. His bold prints, strategic cutouts, asymmetrical details and geometric designs won me over from the first studded look. There were a lot of Art Deco influences in the collection expressed with prints and silhouettes. How could I not love a man who loves crazy platforms. The shoes complemented the collection perfectly. Jean-Pierre teamed up with UK-based shoe company Dune to produce these beauties.

the shOws - Jean-Pierre Braganza Spring Summer 2012

He perfectly balanced his neutral staples like black, grey, white and cream with vibrant orange and red. I liked the subtle hip level cutouts he featured in blazers and dresses. It was an accessible way to add a bit of skin to a garment without scaring away potential women buyers. Jean-Pierre’s spring summer 2012 inspiration includes The German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Ben Nicholson and his studio beauties. The collection had a good balance of dresses, suiting and separates with all pieces being more desirable than the next.

I stopped taking photos and video on the second day of the shows but I found a video from London Fashion Week. The lineup and music are exactly the same.

the shOws – Thomas Tait Spring Summer 2012

the shOws - Thomas Tait Spring Summer 2012

Thomas Tait is one of the four designers that showcased their Spring Summer 2012 collections with the the shOws at the Ritz-Carlton. the shOws is the brainchild of Paola Fullerton.

We want to support them here at home and give them every possible opportunity to continue to build their brands.” – Paola Fullerton, Founder & Creative Director

Thomas Tait studied at La Salle College in Montreal and then went on to graduate with an MA from London’s Central Saint Martins. He was the youngest person to do so. Thomas’s second collection is my first real exposure to Tait’s designs. I had heard his name before but was pretty ignorant to what the collection looked like.

the shOws - Thomas Tait Spring Summer 2012

The show started out with some Balenciaga like cocoon coats. This would be typical of his minimal design focus. Many pieces had voluminous shapes that hid the curves of the body and produced a straight line silhouette. The styling, colour palette and clothing made me think of golf and tennis for some reason. Thomas Tait had a really interesting fabric that shimmered in the light and had a bit of texture. Thanks to the internet I learned that it is a pleated jersey with a clear print and coloured foil overlay. It worked well with his neutrals of black and white as well as the pastel pink and greens that added a pops of colour.

the shOws - Thomas Tait Spring Summer 2012

Overall, I liked the collection. I love the minimal silhouette and the fabric treatments. Thomas Tait collaborated with Cutler and Gross on the fabulous eyewear.

Kickstarter x Juma for New York Fashion Week

Juma is raising funds for a New York Fashion Week show through Kickstarter.

JUMA is interested in raising funds with you to produce a fashion show to be shown at New York fashion week. We are presently designing our new collection and would like to have a presentation in which we can show our line. We would like to have our show listed on the official fashion week calender and invite editors, media, stylists and other industry participants in order to gain exposure and build our fanbase offline and online.

We have experience with producing runways shows and have been designing clothing for 6 years so are confident in the execution of the project.

We are offering you our digitally printed bags, scarves, prints as well as backstage experiences in order to raise the funds required to put on this runway show for New York Fashion Week!

The project will be funded if $26,000 dollars are raised by Friday August 26, 2011 at 4pm. This dollar figure should be sobering to some designers about the costs of putting on a modest fashion show during NYFW. You can learn more and pledge for the JUMA New York Fashion Week Kickstarter project online.

i want: Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandals

Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandals
I’m totally obsessed with the Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandals. Playing in Shrimpton Couture’s Closet has taught me that I need these shoes in my life. A towering platform paired with the ability to match with any outfit, this is perfection. Yves Saint Laurent sandals also come in all the colours of the rainbow. These green leather and coral patent ones are so fun.
