Schiaparelli Haute Couture by Christian Lacroix Fall – Winter 2013 – 2014

Christian Lacroix kicks off the revival of the House of Schiaparelli with a Haute Couture collection for the Fall Winter 2013 – 2014 season. Every season the House of Schiaparelli will be inviting a different artist to create a Haute Couture collection. These collections aren’t for sale and purely for the love of Couture (and great advertising to boot). There are a couple of videos out that show the collection and interviews with the designer and Schiaparelli spokespeople. The video below is an interview with Christian Lacroix with Suzy Menkes. I think my favourite part of the collection is the hats. Schiaparelli Fall 2013 Couture Collection on Style.com.

ELLE Decoration Suite by Jean Paul Gaultier

ELLE Decoration Suite by Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier is collaborating with French furniture brand Roche Bobois. It will be released in the second half of the year. Gaultier was invited to renovate Elle Decoration suite which is situated on the top floor of the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris. It was a former apartment designed by Jacques Carlu, the architect behind the Palais Chaillot in the 1930s. “Clothes are my job, and as I only know how to dress, I dressed this ELLE Decoration suite in the Cité de l’architecture & du patrimoine, with various touches that already grace my collections. Then comes the green touch. Nature opens its doors ! Plants are invited in, a garden is printed on the walls! Ivy weaves into the sofa; lichen grows over the woven chairs in the shade of a tree, and moss, like green velvet, carpets …

Christian Lacroix Haute Couture – Fall 2009

The Christian Lacroix show felt like a funeral to me. It was very dark with a lot of black instead of his usual explosion of colour. I imagine darkness was unavoidable for what could be the last Christian Lacroix Haute Couture collection. Hell, it could be the last Christian Lacroix collection ever. Haute Couture was touch and go, many were worried that it wouldn’t happen. However, the most amazing thing happened. All of Lacroix’s friends, suppliers and employees donated their time and materials. The collection was done for free. What an amazing tribute. Check out this video which talks more about how the collection came about. I admit that Lacroix has never been one of my favourite couturiers but his mastery of the medium is undeniable. I hope he doesn’t leave the stage just yet as it would be a huge disservice to the whole industry. That knowledge needs to be passed on.
