I just discovered this intriguing video from defunct CBC show, Fashion File. It chronicles the process used in creating my dream bag, The Hermès Birkin.

I went to the Toronto Meets Tokyo Shu Uemura event at Holt Renfrew a couple weekends ago. I was treated to a make up application that included Shu Uemura lashes. I was going to find out why these lashes are so raved about. TORONTO MEETS TOKYO shu uemura will come to life this Saturday at Holt Renfrew; our principal makeup artist Taca Ozawa will be there to complete artistic makeup for the women who dare to try! Lashes application will be offered, as well as sketches done by a Japanese Manga Artist. The event will take place in the centre court at Holt Renfrew, with models dressed in kimonos and made up with artistic makeup. Taca Ozawa wasn’t my makeup artist. Stupid me didn’t ask/remember her name because I loved what she did. I chose something pretty simple for lashes. The Luxe Black style were huge but not over the top. I didn’t feel like feathers or sparkles at the time. Inspired by the mink false eyelashes custom-ordered by celebrities, this synthetic version features a …
I saw this really neat design through a friend on twitter. The Colour-in Dress by Michiel Schuurman and Berber Soepboer is ingenious, a colour it yourself dress. You purchase the dress and fabric markers. The rest is up to you and your imagination. The colour-in dress is finally for sale. Fifty dresses have been produced in four different sizes. It can be yours for around 250 euros (depending on the shipping costs). Send a mail to soepboerschuurman@gmail.com if you’re interested. The dress will be shipped in a nice (gift)-box with textilemarkers. I’ve been lucky enough that people have asked me to speak at their events this year. I’m at four appearances and counting. One of those events was the Queen’s Business Forum on the Fashion Industry which took place the weekend before LG Fashion Week. I received an email from Shaine sometime in the summer. I had never heard of QBFFI before so I did some investigating. I learned that many big players in the Canadian fashion scene were previous speakers . People like Barbara Aktin, Robin Kay, Chip Wilson and Harry Rosen. This years line up included Rita Silvan, Linda Lundstrom, Allison Gordon, Stacey McKenzie, Mosha Lundstrom Halbert, Karen Cleveland and Julie Magnan. I was really honoured with the request. I’m still amazed that anyone cares what I have to say. So, I made my way up to Kingston on VIA with The Oracle who was there for moral support. We barely made the train and I literally mean by seconds. The train attendant had pulled up the stairs and I managed to get him …
Luxury watchmaker Hublot is creating 12 “pop” versions of their very popular Big Bang series with one of my favourite bands, Depeche Mode. Each one of a kind watch will feature a different Depeche Mode album cover. They will be sold at auction with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust. One of the most influential bands on the international electropop scene, this will be Depeche Mode’s first ever concert at the Royal Albert Hall. The band’s members are thrilled at the prospect. Not just because of the prestigious venue, but also because of the cause they have chosen to support. The event will raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, an organization which provides help to adolescents with cancer in terms of treatment, research, education, family support and specialist diagnosis (www.teenagecancertrust.org). To mark this special occasion, Hublot and Depeche Mode have decided to create a series of 12 unique watches, each of which will feature one of the band’s album covers on its dial. The watches will be sold at an auction at the …

I was invited to see the Toy Watch preview awhile back. I hadn’t heard of Toy Watch at the time of the invite so I did some investigation. Toy Watch started in Milan and came to North America in 2006. Their whole motto is combing high design with accessible materials, namely plastic, rubber and other non luxury materials. The preview was a vehicle to showcase the new Toywatch Jelly collection. The Jelly is made of soft, pliable silicone and the watch face is interchangeable. Every colour of the rainbow is available in super bright hues. You can mix and match with possibilities of over 72 different versions. The Jelly’s retail for $250.00. I was super lucky for this preview and was given a Toywatch. It took me a very long time to finally decide on the Toy Watch Neon Chronograph Plasteramics in Atomic Orange. I love Neon. I loved it in the 80s as a kid and still love it now. I describe Toywatch to people as the Swatch of the 2000s. Check out the gallery …
I’m really taken with this Lanvin Spring 2010 ad campaign by Steven Meisel featuring model Jamie Bochert. I really like that that model’s face isn’t visible, it makes the clothing and accessories stand out much more. I can’t wait to see the rest of the campaign. image: the Fashion Spot
The impeccable Celine Spring 2010 has hit the floor at Holt Renfrew, the exclusive retailer in Canada. I had to check it out myself. The clothing lives up to the pictures. Everything was just so beautiful, flawless and drool worthy. It’s expensive as all hell too. Phoebe, you know how to cut, it’s disgusting! I could wear it all. Just to refresh your memory here is the Celine Spring 2010 video. images: the Fashion Spot
