i got: Marc by Marc Jacobs Tobo Handbag

The Oracle stared at my Weekend Bag by m0581. “This”, he said complete with hand gestures, “has to go.” It’s true, my beautiful robin’s egg blue bag had seen better days. So for Christmas, I received theMarc by Marc Jacobs Tobo Handbag as a replacement. I helped pick it out too. I love the colour and the fact it’s made out of neoprene. The neoprene has the letter of Marc by Marc Jacobs embedded in the fabric but it’s not in order. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Tobo Handbag is available at Holt Renfrew. images: neimanmarcus.com

Peter Kent Handbags

I went to the Canadian launch of Peter Kent Handbags at the Hazelton Hotel this week. Peter Kent is a leather accessories line out of Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Hector Neer founded the company in 1972 and it continues to this day as a family run business. His three children joined him in the business using their skills in different areas of the company.  Hector still is the head designer. Hector and his son Alejandro made their way from Argentina to Toronto for the launch. They had a hell of a trip up here; missed connection flight due to customs in Washington and lost luggage. This resulted in a 25 hour trip, much longer than normal. Despite this Hector and Alejandro were so incredibly nice and personable when I got a chance to meet and chat with them about their business. They are so passionate about the business and their enthusiasm really shows in the handbags. Peter Kent Handbags doesn’t produce in large volumes and the result is well crafted merchandise. They use local craftsmen who …

Nella Bella Fall 2009 Handbags

Some of the best part of writing this blog is meeting amazing designers in this city. One night I was out with friends I was introduced to Tarek Al-azbat. He is a Toronto handbag designer. His focus has been producing handbags for other designers. One of his former clients is Alexander Wang. He has been in the business for 14 years and now he is looking to bring more attention to his own handbag line called Nella Bella. Nella Bella is here to give you another fashionable outlet for vegan handbags. I asked Tarek, why vegan? In addition to the environmental benefits he explained that using PU leather allowed for different fabrications that just aren’t possible with leather. He showed me a black bag with a chevron pattern that is possible with PU but not real leather. Tarek showed me a few different designs. I was impressed with fashion forward styles and you can tell design is just as important as vegan materials. I even got a croc stamped tote to give a test drive. …

i got: A Weekend Bag by m0851

My Weekend Bag by m0851 is one of my favourite bags and gets a lot of usage. It has a laptop storage pocket holds my EEE Pc and still has room to spare for the multitudes of crap I manage to bring with me daily. This bag is a year old now but I’ve noticed that it’s very popular with some of my friends. So popular that I’ve decided to take photos when I run into someone with one. Mine is the Robin’s egg blue version. I was salvating over the purple one too, but alas that is not mine but Monique from Moonrox’s. The brown version belongs to Andrew Sardone from Now Magazine. The bag’s popularity really lies in it’s versatility and minimal design. The buttery m0851 leather helps also. It’s utilitarian design is something that both men and women can use. It lacks a gender, which I find very appealing. Even though the bags are produced season after season, m0851 changes the colours each season. m0851 is a Canadian company that still designs …

Belvedere vs Bustle Fall 2009 Bags

Belvedere Vodka and Bustle Clothing collaborated during LG Fashion Week. Nine Canadian graffiti artists were tapped to create bags for Bustle’s Fall 09 collection, featuring the aesthetic of Belvedere’s new IX bottle. The bags are pretty cool and I thought I’d share them. I thought about linking to the new Belvedere product but the website offends my sensibilities so you’ll have to google it for yourself.

i got: A vintage beaded bag

A vintage beaded bag This was one of my purchases in Montreal as I was told to hit up the vintage shops. I’ve been looking for a small, clutch like bag that can fit my Smartphone (Blackberry now) and my camera. This does both and is pretty, yay! This was purchased at Friperie St-Laurent, 3976, boulevard Saint-Laurent.

Karl’s gotta brand new bag.

The Kaiser is coming out with a new bag line and I kinda like some. The line won’t be available until Spring 2009. My love for Karl Largerfeld has grown 10 fold since reading The Beautiful Fall (see side bar for amazon link). Amazing book which really give you an insight into how brilliant this man is. via Karl Lagerfeld’s New Bag Line Is Futuristic! — The Cut: New York Magazine’s Fashion Blog images: same source

m0851 Fall 2008 Preview

I got a sneak peak at m0851’s fall collection and it’s very nice. I’m particularly in love with the purple bags and wool jackets. m0851 is Canadian and based out of Montreal. All of their goods are designed and manufactured in Montreal. For those of you that don’t have a problem with leather, you’ll wanna eat up the whole store. More photos here: m0851 Fall 2008 Preview

Ask a Geek: Where to find Marc by Marc Jacobs in Toronto

Sometimes readers ask me questions. If they are of value to all my readers I post them online. If you have a question, please feel free to submit it using the contact form. I’ll definitely do my best to answer it. I want – I got reader Annie wrote: Hi Anita, I’m desperately looking for the Marc by Marc Jacobs Grovee Dr. Q purse in the brown colour. My friend’s birthday is this weekend and she’s been yearning for it. Do you know of any other store in Toronto aside from Holt who sells Marc by Marc? Thank you! I hope you don’t mind me sharing your question Annie! Holt Renfrew sells Marc by Marc handbags along with the Marc Jacobs line and Bloor Street is your best bet for selection. Holt Renfrew also carries Marc by Marc Jacobs womenswear, footwear, watches and jewellery. I did some searching on the net and found out that David’s Footwear also sells Marc by Marc handbags and shoes. I believe those are the 2 major players in Toronto. …

i want: NYC La.Ga Bag for Krv Kurva, by Sarah Parris

NYC La.Ga Bag for Krv Kurva, by Sarah Parris Ex-blogTOer Ryan LaFlamme told me about this company he works for called 66degrees a few months ago. 66degrees.com is based out of Toronto and the mandate is to “bring an array of very exclusive, mostly one-of-a-kind or limited edition products made by designers and artists around the world to people like you… people with smart tastes, people who want something different, something unique.” So I’ve been checking the site from time to time to see what’s new. This week, this bag landed in my inbox. I was smitten; it’s very unusual. The pattern reminds me of the New York City skyline. It has an interesting story also. Visualized by one of England’s most sought after designers, and hand-made at a women’s prison in Portugal, this ultra-exclusive handbag is available only at 66degrees.com. The La.Ga Bag, a trademark of Lisbon-based design studio Krv Kurva, is distinctly European in design. The bag marries two unique design ideas: the artistry of the bag’s graphics, and the manufacturing. Each bag …

Prada Spring 2008 James Jean lookbook

I got a look book on my weekend trip to the friendly neighbourhood Prada store. I love the illustrations of James Jean that is all over the collection. It turns out there is a whole line of accessories too. My trusty scanner and I got to work. Note these are large images for your enjoyment. Click the thumbnails. Nathalie Atkinson from the National Post wrote and article on James Jean called Pure Jeanius. Another great article with a lot of images (many you have seen on I want – I got) is found at the comics212 site in a post called: PRADA IS JAMES JEAN: Comic artist covers spring collection. This is the It bag of the season, even with all the calls about the end of it bags. NyMag has a post about getting your hands on the exclusive bag. Please don’t hotlink!
