Toywatch Spring 2010 Preview

I was invited to see the Toy Watch preview awhile back. I hadn’t heard of Toy Watch at the time of the invite so I did some investigation. Toy Watch started in Milan and came to North America in 2006. Their whole motto is combing high design with accessible materials, namely plastic, rubber and other non luxury materials. The preview was a vehicle to showcase the new Toywatch Jelly collection. The Jelly is made of soft, pliable silicone and the watch face is interchangeable. Every colour of the rainbow is available in super bright hues. You can mix and match with possibilities of over 72 different versions.  The Jelly’s retail for $250.00. I was super lucky for this preview and was given a Toywatch. It took me a very long time to finally decide on the Toy Watch Neon Chronograph Plasteramics in Atomic Orange.  I love Neon. I loved it in the 80s as a kid and still love it now.  I describe Toywatch to people as the Swatch of the 2000s. Check out the gallery …

I attended the Bijouxbead Holiday 2009 Interactive Pop Up Show Community Reception to get a look at the collection of necklaces influenced by Canadian Designers David Dixon The show will kick off with a unique interactive display of eight one of a kind necklaces, all of which happen to be eight stranded, designed to pay homage to eight Canadian Fashion Designers. Evan Biddell Paul Hardy Each piece was a thrill to design; I studied these designer’s spring summer 2010 collections at great length, that were shown at Toronto’s LG Fashion Week. I came up with colour, texture and scale for these pieces based on my interpretation of the clothing in their collections that were most notable to me. Vawk Unlike my previous collections, this collection is exclusively glass, crystal and sterling -a big departure for me. All together, I incorporated over thirteen thousand six hundred pieces of glass and two thousand four hundred pieces of crystal into these eight necklaces. Hand Belt by Delfina Delettrez for CoutureLab I get a real chuckle out of this Hand Belt by Delfina Delettrez made for the website CoutureLab.com. Made from soft black leather and silver. The hands meet in the center of the waist and the belt fastens with a knot tie to the front or side depending on personal style. CoutureLab was created by the co-founder of Net-a-Porter and it’s ultra luxury. This belt costs a whopping $3,353 and can take up to 30 days for production and delivery. Everything on the site is unattainable but a lot of fun to look at. Each product page has very large images with multiple views. The key mission of CoutureLab is to maintain the value of human craftsmanship and keep creative individuality alive.
