complexgeometries Fall Winter 2012 – 2013

I can’t talk about the upcoming Fall Winter 2012 – 2013 collections without mentioning one of my favourite labels, complexgeometries. The NIGHT is what complexgeometries is calling the Fall Winter 2012 – 2013 collection. It references cultures of the night like skinheads, swingers, workmen and revelers. The collection conveys “the shadows and secrets that the day’s dark hours shroud.” The lookbook was shot in Japan and I love the models! The female model’s makeup is perfect for this complexgeometries collection. The little bursts of colour that were present in previous collections are gone and there is a heavy focus on black, grey, navy and white. As usual, I want it all. Louie Gong x Manitobah Mukluks Gatherer Boot

I have to admit I’m a bit surprised that I’m writing about Manitobah Mukluks. I’m not a fan of Mukluks and I usually cringe whenever I see people wearing them around the city. They are very popular and the Manitobah Mukluks company is as close to the genuine article as you are going to get. I’m a huge fan of Louie Gong though and he’s partnered with Manitobah Mukluks to create a boot even I can love. North Star Sportwear x Geoff Mcfetridge Collection

North Star + Geoff Mcfetridge Pop-up Shop runs from June 22 – 28, 2012 at Magic Pony. I attended the launch party because I was dying to get a look at the collection. I wasn’t disappointed, it’s pretty damn cute. My favourite is the moose print. Line Knitwear x Roots City Sweaters

My heart fills with Canadian pride when looking at the Line Knitwear and Root sweater collaboration. Line and Roots teamed up to create a capsule collection of four sweaters all based on iconic cities in Canada. The collection uses Line Knitwear’s top selling sweater styles with a bit of Roots Canadiana. I’m a fan of all the styles and I think it’s fitting that Toronto’s is the most bland for some reason. Proenza Schouler Resort 2013

Ahh, Proenza Schouler, a brand I could dress head to toe in and be completely satisfied. If only I had the money to make that a reality. The Proenza Schouler Resort 2013 collection isn’t about gimmick and features fresh, wearable shapes and colours. The resort collection introduces a new handbag to the PS line. i want: Hermes Editeur Scarves by Hiroshi Sugimoto

If had a few tens of thousands lying around, I’d be buying Hermès Editeur scarves by artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. Hermès Editeur is a limited edition collaboration with visual artists who take their craft and interpret it into a Hermès scarf. They are all very beautiful and expensive. You are basically buying a piece of art on silk with the Hermès Editeur items. Hiroshi Sugimoto’s line is a limited edition run of 140 scarves at $7000 each. The colours are simple but so vibrant and stunning. Hiroshi Sugimoto is a celebrated artist from Japan. Born in Tokyo in 1948, Hiroshi Sugimoto moved to the United States in 1970 to study photography at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, earning a B.F.A. in 1974. There he absorbed the tenets of Conceptualism and Minimalism that continue to inform the technical and intellectual rigor of his work. In 1974 he moved to New York City. Rodarte at The Room

Rodarte designers, Kate and Laura Mulleavy visited Toronto for a Personal Appearance and party at The Room in The Bay. The excitement was building up in the weeks preceding the event because Toronto hasn’t had any major designer visits recently (No, that Kim K person doesn’t count as a designer). As with most of these events, I don’t care about what everyone is wearing because I’m touching the designer’s samples. I love the opportunity to feel the garments and examine the workmanship. Rodarte’s clothing is so well made and the materials are lush. I didn’t even speak to Kate and Laura. I had no interview questions. I didn’t want to do the “I really like your work” and subsequent photo opp. I feel a bit sorry for designers in these situations as I liken it to being in a Zoo. They seemed happy to meet fans and take pictures before being whisked off to dinner with VIPs I really like the Van Gogh print dresses from the Rodarte Spring Summer 2012 collection. Preen Resort 2013

As always, I’m drooling over another collection from the British Duo, Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi of Preen. The Resort 2013 collection is inspired by florals, sport and paintings from Jeff Koons. “There are hydrangeas, poppies, gerberas, chrysanthemums, which we love,” said Thornton. “But we wanted to do something nontraditional with them. So we started looking at Jeff Koons’s paintings with all those super-bright pop colors and brushstrokes dragged across them. And Nick Knight’s photos of flowers.” “Sport is the other thing that went into it, I suppose,” Bregazzi said. “The idea of combining the patterns with tracksuits, sweatshirts, and bombers.” Have the London Olympics been working their way into their heads, then? Thornton laughed, “Well, maybe without us really thinking about it. We’ve just always liked that sporty minimalism of the nineties.” (source) I love the contrast of dark lines, solid colours and sharp angles to the colourful florals. I took some behind the scenes photos at the shoot for the Philip Sparks Spring 2012 lookbook. The shoot took place at the Philip Sparks store that wasn’t open at the time. Philip Sparks Spring 2012 Lookbook. It was an exciting time, many people still didn’t know about the store and it was all very hush hush. I held onto the secret of the store for months on end. I’m great at keeping secrets but it was nice to finally talk openly about how amazing the Philip Sparks store is. Photographer on set was Mckenzie James. Alon Freeman (Judy Inc) was the master stylist. Claudine Baltazar (Plutino Group) was on hair and makeup. The lovely models for the day were Oliver W and Katy from Elmer Olsen Model Management.
