Advanced Corset Making Class

Advanced Corset Making Class.

Learn the art of corset making for less than the cost of a custom made corset!

Thursday, May 28, 2009 – Thursday, July 16, 2009 from 6:30 PM- 9:30 PM

This course covers all aspects of making a high quality corset from initial design, to pattern making, sewing and finishing. The classes focus on advanced techniques for building traditionally constructed custom corsets. At the end of the course you will have sewn your own corset made to fit your personal measurements.
The style of corset being taught is a 19th century Victorian hourglass. The construction is medium to heavy making the end product appropriate for tight lacing, however, students can modify the information they take from the course to produce lighter garments.
People interested in theatrical costumes, historical re-enactments, tight lacing and high fashion will all benefit from the material taught in this course.

8 week course
20 hours of instruction
Classes are held Thursday nights from 6:30-9:30pm

The total cost of the course is $375 GST = $393.75.
This registration form is used to pay the $100 deposit to reserve your space in the class.
The balance of the course fee, $293.75, must be paid at the start of the first class.

Carrie Hayes is the instructor for this course.
Carrie graduated with honours from The International Academy of Design’s Fashion Design program. While working in the apparel industry she earned a loyal following of customers who enjoy her intricate corset designs. Ms. Hayes then entered the high fashion market launching her ready-to-wear label, CARRIE. CARRIE has won the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s Lulu B. Award. It has also been featured in Canada’s top fashion media from Elle Canada to FASHION magazine. Check out her work at www.carriehayes.com

Please see the eventbrite page for registration and more information. The deadline to sign up is May 27, 2009.

I Love Rick Owens… A Lot!!!

Rick Owens - Nick Knight, Arena Homme Plus

My obsession with Rick Owens, the man and the clothes, has driven me to make this post. There have been many Rick Owens interviews and videos on the internet in the last month.

SHOWstudio created a Rick Owens Portrait. It’s a combination of video and images. It is lovely. Be sure to click the link to see the videos

Providing an intimate portrait of Rick Owens in his own words and his own clothing, this filmic diptych, shot live during the action on set, explores Nick Knight’s monograph of an American fashion legend

The images, also part of the portrait, are from Nick Knight’s editorial for Arena Homme Plus. The Showstudio site has more images, I’ve selected my favourites to post here. The top one is now tiled on my desktop. 🙂

There are some interviews online. Vice Magazine interviewed Rick for their fashion issue. Hint Fashion Magazine Blog had a video interview with Rick. And the Rules of Style: Rick Owens from Mens.style.com.
