Burak Uyan Spring Summer 2011 Accessories

I’m liking the shoes and handbags from Burak Uyan’s first solo collection. Architecture, organic shapes and the work of Swedish sculptor Eva Hild are among designer Burak Uyan’s inspirations for his first collection under his own name. “I like to work with overlapping superimpositions and organic shapes, mixing round and geometric shapes and different textures,” said the 31-year old designer of Turkish descent. “There are no specifically evening or day styles. The styles are meant for all day, every day.” The debut collection, unveiled in a Saint Honoré showroom in Paris, includes flats retailing for around $650 and high heels that will be priced up to $1,500, depending on materials. With experience designing for Givenchy and Giambattista Valli, in addition to his most recent stint at Aperlaï, Uyan said he is thrilled to be working under his own name. “It was the right time,” he said.(source) images: style.com

Jil Sander Spring Summer 2010 Accessories

I loved the colours and prints in the spring summer 2011 Jil Sander womenswear collection. I didn’t enjoy the actual clothing too much. It’s the silhouette. It’s too oversized for me and only waifs can pull off such a look. The accessories are amazing though. The prints are so perfect. I was more interested in the handbags. The shoes not so much as they were complimentary but not very exciting to me. Check out the Jil Sander Spring Summer 2011 Womenswear show. And check out the Jil Sander Spring Summer 2011 Menswear show which I thought was brilliant. images: style.com

Star Wars x Adidas Spring Summer 2011

The Star Wars and Adidas collaboration is going strong. The Spring Summer 2011 collection is full of some fun clothing that is heavy on the Boba Fett. I wasn’t all that jazzed about the shoes except for the Imperial Guard ones. They are beautiful. See the rest of the collection at Sneaker Freaker Magazine. images: sneakerfreaker.com

ECCO Spring Summer 2011

I really enjoyed ECCO’s fall winter 2010 season but a lot of that was based around the boot. I wondered what the ECCO team would be up to this spring summer season. Nautical was the theme and blue was a dominate colour.  I perfered the casual shoes to the sandals.  ECCO is following trends though and they’ve added clogs. I’m not a clog person but I like the Swedish Hasbeens for some reason. The ECCO clogs are interesting because they’ve created a sole that flexes.  You can see it in the above photo, it’s the black area. They also introduced a line of bags at a lower price point. ECCO is bringing back their first breakthrough as a company, the Joke shoe from 1978 from a long hiatus. I was instantly reminded of a pair of Mag shoes I have. Mag must have taken some vintage inspiration. I usually grip about getting paper based lookbooks. The ECCO one was well done. There are a lot of macro shots of the products which reminds me of …

Tron Legacy x Opening Ceremony

I got invited to a Tron Legacy screening next week so I thought it would be a good time to talk about the Tron Legacy x Opening Ceremony collection.  I really like the shoes and the laser cut details on the skirt and dress.  The collection is very colourful which I love. This fall/winter 2010, opening ceremony has collaborated with disney consumer products to create a special capsule collection inspired by tron: legacy. opening ceremony travels into the tron universe, where high-tech aesthetics and neon dominate to create futuristic designs. incorporating the four tron colors of yellow, orange, blue, and black, the women’s collection features bomber jackets with over-sized funnel necks, snug scuba shirts, bodice dresses, seamed leggings, dresses with laser-cut ring patterns, and more. Inspired by high-performance athletic apparel, Opening Ceremony uses stretch spandex with flat-lock stitching to create ergonomic, form-fitting styles. Mikhael Kale Spring Summer 2011

I take everything I said about the Mihael Kale spring summer 2011 collection back. His clothing is all about the woman wearing it and I’ve seen it done very well.  All I know the models during LGFW didn’t wear his clothing to it’s fullest potential. Mikhael and his team created the encrusted shoes for the lookbook which was shot by Felix Wong.

Lanvin x H&M Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Preview

I attended the Lanvin x H&M preview this week at the AGO. I was given the opportunity to view the collection in person and get all touchy feeling. I’m very impressed with the collection. The fabrics are well done and there are more than a few pieces that I really like. They’ve done a great job to translating Lanvin luxury to the H&M market. The collection is basically favourites from previous collections made at a mass market level. The clothing has shape and the right fabrics to hold and create it.  It’s mostly synthetic but that’s pretty much what Lanvin at the luxury level is too.   I ran into Tommy Ton at the preview and we browsed the racks together for a bit.  He was impressed with the fabric too.  He’s excited about the men’s pants. I was impressed with the packaging. It’s beautiful.  Lovely boxes that are perfect for reuse.  The garment bags are cloth and beautiful. Sometimes the packaging is just as exquisite as the item it contains. Hermes certainly knows what they …
