G-Shock and G-Shock Mini Spring Summer 2010

There are a few items I associate with my youth: Neon, Oakleys, Converse and G-Shock watches. I loved my old G-Shock watch, it was a man’s version but I didn’t care. I loved it’s chunkiness and digital display. I think women’s watches are a bit to delicate; I need the feeling of the huge watch on my arm. I’ve been slowly acquiring these old artifacts of youth and now that these G-Shocks come in bright colours I think I’m going to have to buy in again. Casio created the G-Shock Mini for women. They feature the same G-Shock style in smaller size for women’s proportions.  They are cute too but I love all the bells and whistles that come with the men’s G-Shock. You can find G-Shock watches in Toronto at The Bay, Livestock, Solestop, Wal-mart, Sears and Little Burgundy. You can find G-Shock watches online at Zappos, Bloomingdales and Karmaloop. images: courtesy of  Casio

Rupert Sanderson x Aida

Rupert Sanderson created shoes for the cast of Verdi’s Aida at the Royal Opera in London. I love seeing fashion and costume design converge. It’s such a perfect fit. Rupert Sanderson has designed the shoes for a cast of over 200 working alongside illustrious young costume designer, Moritz Junge. The vision for the production is bold: Egypt is set aside for an unnamed post-apocalyptic tribal landscape where everything is very ‘brought-down’ and distressed. This has given Rupert great scope for designing an edgy, deconstructed collection of shoes. Boots will be worn out – Rupert is literally burying them in his back garden for two months to allow the mud and grit to do its worst. Sandals will be simple, using frayed materials with raw edges and a neutral or earthy colour palette. And against this ragged aesthetic, the bejeweled slippers and platform wedge sandals designed for the princess Amneris stand out like diamonds on a beach of pebbles. On collaborating with The Royal Opera, Rupert Sanderson says: The opportunity to delve into The Royal Opera’s …

Video – Bespoke Shoemaker John Lobb

The Grumpy Owl posted this wonderful video from The Guardian about Bespoke Shoemaker John Lobb. It’s a fascinating look at how shoes are made. At John Lobb, one of Britain’s last remaining bespoke shoemakers, little has changed since 1849. Perri Lewis unlocks the door to a lost world of craftsmanship. I also found another video about John Lobb that gives you a more detailed look at the shop image: johnlobb.com

i want: Primo Lace Up Wedge Booties by Elizabeth and James

I don’t know why I’m loving the Primo Lace Up Wedge Booties by Elizabeth and James . They are blush coloured for god sakes. There is something about the laces, the snake-embossed leather trim and tweed. You can find these booties online at shopbop.com and Bergdorfs. Bergorfs has a black and blush version in addition to the regular blush version. Holt Renfrew carries Elizabeth and James shoes.  I haven’t seen these yet. images: shopbop.com

i want: Rockaway Perforated Wedge Booties by Madison Harding

Rockaway Perforated Wedge Booties by Madison Harding I love the metal lace hooks on these boots.  Pair that with the perforated finish and you have a hot little wedge boot.  It also comes in cream. Madison Harding is a New York based footwear brand.  Created by college friends Hilary Rosenman and Barri Budin. You can find the Rockaway Perforated Wedge Booties online at Shopbop.com and Urban Outfitters. images: shopbop.com

I got a Marksover

Mark’s aka Mark’s Work Warehouse has decided to change focus and is now trying to get people to think of them differently. They’ve changed their name to Mark’s to rid themselves of the work warehouse moniker. With this they’ve changed some of the offerings in the store to appeal to a larger audience but still serve that core business of workwear. To get the word out about this change they invited members of the media to: Come experience the latest in style and innovation from Mark’s Work Wearhouse. We’re pleased to invite you to an interactive style event, featuring the Spring/Summer 2010 clothing line from Mark’s Work Wearhouse. They called this a Marksover and we used it as a hashtag for twitter conversations. This would include a talk with Marks representatives about the new innovations they have added, a stylist to help you select a perfect Marks outfit, hairstylist to work your do and a makeup artist to round out the whole package. I was told it was an exercise to see the reactions from …

i want: Tale Wedge by Eileen Shield for Maria Cornejo

The lovely Nathalie Aktinson send me a link to the Tale wedge by Eileen Shields for Maria Cornejo. “These new Zero+Maria Cornejo shoes somehow remind me of you…” the message reads. She is completely on target here, I really like these wedge booties.  The cutout is perfect and I love all the colourways.  The white stands out to me the most. I have a total soft spot for Zero + Maria Cornejo. I love her clothing and prints. The Spring 2008 collection from Zero was my first New York Fashion Week show.  Zero + Maria Cornejo women’s ready to wear is available at Holt Renfrew and Jonathan + Olivia.  Shoes have to be ordered online or a trip to the States is in order. images: zeromariacornejo.com
