Hudson COLLECTION Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

Designer denim isn’t dead. Holt Renfrew and Hudson have teamed together to bring Hudson Jean’s first high end collection. This collection differs from regular Hudson collections because the pieces are hand made using raw denim and the process is labour intensive. With the new Collection I wanted to reinvent the idea of traditional denim and tops—its an anti uniform approach. Each piece has so much individuality and lets the wearer express her own style and personality. It is the roots of the HUDSON “way of life”. (lead designer for Hudson Jeans, Ben Tavernit) Pieces in the line include jeans, tops, dresses and jackets with prices ranging from $145 – $995. Jeans will average around $400. The line is exclusive to Holt Renfrew and is available at the Bloor, Yorkdale and Vancouver locations. Standard n. Of recognized excellence or established authority. The common thread within Standard and the foundation of the Collection is Denim. Standard is style that comes from the classic HUDSON aesthetic in its purest form. Denim becomes the new neutral. Standard is both …

Danier Fall Winter 2010

The Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection from Danier is out. Some of my favourite pieces are their collaborations with John Hillifer, winner of Danier Design Challenge 2010 and the Raphael Mazzucco Mixed Media Montage collection.  The selection of pieces I like are all very motorcycle inspired. I’m loving the leather dress and Celine inspired black leather tshirt. John’s jacket is very different from what I normally see in Danier and that’s a good thing to see them embracing different design.  Raphael Mazzucco Mixed Media Montage collection pieces have colourful linings that were created by Raphael. images: courtesy of Danier

Celine Spring Summer 2010 Army Jacket

i want: Celine Spring Summer 2010 Army Jacket

I was doing my regular rounds of Holt Renfrew Bloor Street with The Oracle a few weekends ago. We ran into Tommy Ton of JakandJil. I hadn’t seen Tommy since he started on his adventures during Men’s and Women’s fashion weeks so it was really good to catch up for a bit. I say this to everyone but Tommy is such a sweetheart. The highlight of our catching up was me playing model in Celine for Tommy. I know, it’s pretty lame but simple pleasure right. I’ve always looked, touched and drooled over the Celine pieces in Holts but never dared to try anything on.   With Tommy Ton present I had the perfect excuse. He had me try on two army jackets and I’m posting about the one I really, really love. The jacket is “the sex”. There is something about well made designer goods that just feel like a dream on. If I had to cash to drop on this jacket, I probably would do it in a heartbeat, look at the back of …

i want: Spring 2010 Danier Leather Jackets

Danier keeps stepping it up. They’ve created a more fashion forward lineup of jackets which really surprised and pleased me. I spent many years walking into The Path location wanting to buy a leather jacket and not seeing anything I would wear. Finally with Fall 2009, I filled my wardrobe with some leather staples from Danier. I love my classic black motorcycle jacket and leather leggings. Fall was very dark and Spring 2010 at Danier is the opposite, full of colour. I’m craving the blue and the yellow leather jackets from Danier.  A great addition now that I have the standard black; it’s time to play around a bit. Fall merchandise is being cleared out of Danier stores right now.  Expect to see the Spring 2010 items in the store by the end of the month. images: courtesy of Danier Leather

The Coat, Philip and I

I was send a video that brought back memories of taking this photo with Philip Sparks at the Holt Renfrew TIFF party. It was Philip’s idea to get for me to wear the racoon fur buffalo coat from the Fall 2009 collection. We come into play at 0:38 in the video. It’s originally from Radio Canada We had a total blast taking the photo and I’m glad the moment is recorded somewhere. Loves It! Anita <3s Philip.

The Blanket Statement by The Hudson’s Bay Company

I was invited to the preview of  The Blanket Statement in the Hudson’s Bay Company Shop on Queen Street.  The Blanket Statement is a collaboration that saw 10 Canadian designers rework the traditional Hudson’s Bay Point Blanket into coat. In addition to unveiling the 10 one of a kind coats, the event also showcased new items created for the Hudson’s Bay Company Shop. Specialty items from fashion to home to collectibles have been created by several Canadian fashion designers and artisans — encompassing everything from organic T-shirts to artisanal maple syrup cubes to women’s recycled fur accessories. My favourite coats are a toss up between Comrags and Smythe. It wasn’t just womenswear designers, Krane and Klaxon Howl created something for the guys. The new collection at the Hudson’s Bay Company Shop included custom made canoes, canoe paddles, Pink Tartan Hudson’s Bay Point cardigans, $75 pure maple sugar cube (I was astonished at this item to be honest. I even had to twitpic it.), specially made tshirts from Shared, chocolates, chunky sweaters, Virgina Johnson printed scarfs, …

Inspiration Point by Rea McNamara in Eye Weekly

I got a phone called from Rea McNamara who wanted me to be part of her monthly fashion column for Toronto’s Eye Weekly called Inspiration Point. The print version is available now, grab it (8/6/09 – 8/12/09). I’ve got some I want – I got exclusive outtakes from the Inspiration Point photoshoot to share with you all. The concept: Wanted to not only celebrate Grace Jones’ iconic style but also her impact as a transgressive performance artist who challenged racial and gender stereotypes by interrogating preconceived notions ’round the black body. Similar to Josephine Baker, Jones flipped the ‘Black Venus’ script by fucking with ‘primitivist’ ideas (ie. dark black female as animalistic, ‘jungle’ etc) in very much a postmodern context (by doing it herself, it became about empowerment). While I think it’s GREAT that Jones was this big F/W 09 influence, her talent as a performer seems to be ignored. Stuff that I wanted include but couldn’t: her mom was a seamstress that did handmade Givenchy patterns for Grace, her 1970s Paris modelling career (she …

i want: Jeremy Laing Fall 2009 – 2010

I love the image on the landing page for Jeremy Laing website. It doesn’t look as impressive in this image so I suggest you click on the Jeremy Laing link to get a look at it in its glory. I just wanted to mention the image because it was so striking, but this is an i want post and the object of my affection is Jeremy Laing’s Fall 2009 – 2010 collection. I love it when Jeremy posts the collection on his site. You get photos from another angle and get to see some the details that you’d miss otherwise. There is a lot of beautiful details in this collection. Doesn’t this just scream wear me. The gloves, the little swish of the skirt, the freaking collar. I want! i want Rick Owens Washed and Gathered Leather Jacket

Rick Owens – Washed and Gathered Leather Jacket How freaking hot is this leather jacket by Rick Owens. It’s has more volume compared to most of his sleeker leathers. He keeps the signature slim sleeves with high armholes that makes a Rick Owens jacket a dream to wear. It’s cropped and it reminds me of a bomber jacket put through the Rick Owenantor. image: luisaviaroma.com

i got: A CDN Spirit Down Jacket

It was starting to get cold in Toronto and I needed a puffy down jacket. I have a lot of wool jackets that require way too many layers in the winter. I wanted a jacket that I could wear without a lot of layers. My ski jacket is down, but it’s not long enough. It happened to be Buy Local Week when I started to I decided that I would buy a Canadian made jacket. My choices were slim, Canada Goose or CDN Spirit. I decided on the Cdn Spirit because Canada Goose is just too expensive, double the price. I’m very, very happy with my purchase. The jacket is super warm and the fleece cuffs are a nice touch and keeps the wind from blowing up my sleeves. Cdn Spirit is carried by Sporting Life and Holly’s Fashions. I got mine at the Holly’s Fashion shop in the TD Centre. The picture isn’t the best because I’m pretty lazy right now and can’t be bothered to take one.
