I posted one of the three videos for the Hudson Jeans Cabaret Collection already. I loved their use of the running man to showcase the Leeloo jean. The rest of the videos in the campaign for the Cabaret Collection are just as entertaining. Georgia May Jagger is growing on me and I love her in the print ads.
The Cabaret was a place where people felt comfortable. They did not have to stick to the usual rules of society. Shot in Paris, the birthplace of the Cabaret, the FW’12 HUDSON Cabaret campaign is a celebration of HUDSON Jeans’ 10 year anniversary in September 2012. Hosted by Georgia May Jagger, and featuring shows by the likes of human beat boxer Tez and Brooklyn electro pop band Au Revoir Simone, HUDSON creates a campaign that applauds self expression and an inspired free thinking attitude.
The Grand Prix Paneled Skinny Jean by Rag & Bone/Jean is one of many denim items on my fall 2012 hot list. This style is exclusive to Intermix so that’s the only place you’ll find them. I’m not a fan of the white pant for practical reasons; they are stain magnets! However, I do love the look of white pants in theory.
The style name is perfect for this jean as the colour blocking placement looks a lot like racing stripes. This is perfect for my long legs paired with a pair of high heels.

The Hudson Fall 2012 ad campaign is really good. They’ve used print and video this season. The Leeloo jean has the best video that brings back the running man courtesy of French dancer, Amelie Poulian.
Holt Renfrew is turning 175 this year. It’s amazing that this retailer has been around since 1837. Holt Renfrew started as a hat shop in Quebec City and over the years developed and expanded across Canada. In the 1930’s, Holts began it’s luxury focus and even welcomed Christian Dior in 1947 when he launched the “New Look”. The company was under foreign ownership for many years and in 1986 it was purchase by The Westons moving Holt Renfrew into the company it is today.
Holt’s partnered with many of it’s luxury brands to create the limited edition, Magenta Collection. It was cool to see some Canadian faces in the mix like Smythe, Naked & Famous, Mackage, Moose Knuckles and Canada Goose adding their magenta inspired pieces.
There are lots of American companies moving into the retail space in Canada. It’s nice to see home-grown companies pushing their own expansions. Montreal based Judith & Charles is opening their first 1700 sq ft flagship store at First Canadian Place (my old work stomping grounds) opening in September. Designers Judith Richardson and Charles Le Pierrès started the brand in 2008. They aren’t newbies in this business and before Judith & Charles they were the exclusive North America licensees for the Parisian brand Teenflo. Judith & Charles has 10 retail locations in Canada and a store in New York City.
I haven’t had a drool worthy shoe moment for a long time, then I saw these crazy, beautiful booties on the Intermix website. These exclusive to Intermix booties are from B Brian Atwood which is Brian Atwood’s lower priced shoe line.
I love the cognac colour of these shoes but I know the 5″ stiletto heel is just a bit too high for me and the platform is only a quarter inch. I know my limits and I’ll be satisfied with just staring. These are available exclusively at IntermixOnline.com. I’m not sure if they will be available at the Toronto location.
Macarons and fashion are always mentioned together. I should be over everything related to macaron but I’m not. They are just too damn tasty to ignore. Flare and Nadège teamed up to create macaron based on shades from the fall winter 2012 – 2013 collections. You can see all 10 of the creations at Flare.com.
Toronto’s top macaron maker Nadège Nourian, of Nadège Patisserie, has created one-of-a-kind shades just for FLARE inspired by the season’s hottest hues. “This is one of the most challenging projects I’ve ever worked on,” shared Nourian while on set for our macaron photo shoot, “but it was incredibly fulfilling and so much fun to do.” See these delicious confections paired with top looks from the international runways for a sweet visual treat.
Four of the ten custom marcaron created for the editorial are available for purchase at Nadège Patisserie for a limited time. The flavours are (top to bottom in above photo): Chocolate cherry, inspired by Givenchy , Grand Cru chocolate from Brazil, inspired by Balenciaga; Cotton candy, inspired by Stella McCartney and Rose, inspired by Alexander McQueen. At the time of writing, I have eaten the Stella McCartney macaron and it was delicious. I can’t wait to eat this box over the next couple days.
Chanel is creating another Fashion’s Night Out collection. Last year, Les Jeans de Chanel was only available in the US. I had a friend track them down for me. Luckily, Canadians will be able to purchase them at Chanel Bloor Street, Holt Renfrew Bloor Street and Holt Renfrew Vancouver this time around on September 6, 2012.
Les Twin-Sets de Chanel is a three shade collection of lipstick and nail polish duos. I really like Provocation and Infidèle with Provocation being my favourite. I’ll be tracking those two down on September 6.
This knit tunic by Montreal designer, Dinh bá popped up in my Facebook newsfeed. It got me thinking of how cosy knits are in the fall with pleasure instead of summertime disdain. i’m not ready to purchase knits yet but this tunic can be found at distill gallery in Toronto.
I love, love this campaign by Lanvin for the fall winter 2012 – 2012 collection. Alber Elbaz grabbed some unique individuals from New York ranging from 18 to 82 years in age. It looks great and I love the selection of people. I’m also loving the number of black people in the campaign, yay Alber.
“I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes,†Elbaz told WWD. “It felt like a crazy family, and I like that.â€(source)
The accompanying Lanvin Fall Winter 2012 – 2013 ad campaign video is really good too. No dancing this time, the just people talking.
I was scrolling through Fidelity Denim’s fall 2012 lookbok and the solitary pair of coloured denim jumped out at me. The Vox are a mid rise skinny jean with ave a slick finish and are a gorgeous purple burgundy colour.
Ever since reading Overdressed, I’ve been thinking about spending my money with a bit more caution when it comes to fashion. High on my priorities are well made, wearability and country of origin. I’ve decided that less is more and I want to stop those random H&M or Zara purchases and save for a couple of big ticket purchases a season. The fall, I want a Maryam Keyhani necklace.
Maryam’s work is as stunningly beautiful as she is. I really feel like these necklaces portrays her aesthetic perfectly. And who doesn’t want a part of that.
Maryam’s necklaces feature folded silks, structured metal and strands of pearls.
Maryam Keyhani is available at Holt Renfrew in Toronto.
Canadian denim brand and I want – I got favourite, Triarchy took their bright skinnies and traveled all the way to Peru to shoot their fall winter 2012 – 2013 lookbook. The result is a very beautiful lookbook. Such a refreshing change from the standard way I’ve seen denim presented.
The fall winter 2012 – 2013 collection is described as:
Moncler S is a project which this season is set to become even broader for an interpretation of the Moncler world that is original and contemporary. Little coats and capes open into large flared and enveloping skirts. Diamond quilting effects and quilted rolls alternate in the same garment, providing movement to surfaces and modelling the figure. Careful research goes into materials that underscore the purity of the design. Ultra soft deperlant flannel in prized New Zealand merino wool is both waterproof and stain-proof. Extreme attention is also lavished on the details with the bell and flower-bottom sleeve as unmistakeable style code of Moncler S.
I love that these designs break the mold of the traditional down filled jacket. After seeing the rise of Canada Goose and others over several years, I’m thoroughly bored of the silhouette. I even hate bringing out my own wonderfully made but completely boring Cdn Spirit down jacket. Moncler S provides different possibilities for winter gear and while some of the styles pictured are a bit much, many are quite wearable, functional and most importantly fashion forward.
I love that some PRs have caught on to the fact that I love sunglasses just a little too much. My Mom asked me how many pairs I have the other day. I sheepishly replied eight. Now most people would say that`s probably a little excessive but I have no plans on keeping my collection at 8. Marni`s 2012 Winter Edition Sunglasses are on my hot list right now. I love the colours and flower motif.
The main feature of the sunglasses from the MARNI WINTER EDITION 2012 EYEWEAR COLLECTION is the contrast between opaque and shiny used for a flower motif on relief in the upper part of the frame.
Opaline and watery colors range from bright green, pink, yellow and red to sand and brown, while temples are in contrasting solid colors.
I`m not sure which retailers in Canada will be stocking these but they are available online at marni.com and in all Marni Boutiques.
At the beginning of every season I trek down to the Bloor Street Hermès and pick up my copy of their lovely in house magazine, Le Monde d’Hermès. The Autumn Winter 2012 issue looks fun with a specially commissioned editorial by photographer, Olivia Bee.
Olivia Bee, 18, is a photographer. Her blog is the showcase for her photographs and videos and shares the dreams and experiences of a young girl. Between naivety and naughtiness, she creates her own arcadia and reinterprets fairy tales with all the freshness and impertinence of a teenager.
For Le Monde d’Hermès autumn/winter 2012 she has shot a bucolic tale of silk. In an enchanted landscape Olivia has cast her own spell on the Hermès scarf, now transformed into giant bows on the heads of pink-haired punk fairies, then a uni-horn for her horse or a silk kerchief for a thoroughly modern day Prince Charming. Hermès loved the story so much it became the cover and a short film was commissioned.
I`m a sucker for Hermès scarves so I`m interested to see what Olivia`s editorial will look like. These preview images have me thinking that it will be pretty damn good. Thanks for the heads up Hermès Canada.
So, Ann Taylor is another one of the big American chains invading Canada right now. They will open the first international location at the Eaton Centre this fall and another soon to be announced location in Toronto.
“Toronto is the perfect location to open our first international stores. It is a beautiful city filled with modern, sophisticated women who lead busy lives, and we are excited to bring a trusted fashion destination that offers great style as well as incredible versatility,†said Axelson.
I attended the Ann Taylor Fall Winter 2012 – 2013 preview at The Carlu where I got familiar with the brand. I know of Ann Taylor by name but never really paid attention and wrote them off as an “older woman” brand. I learned with most established fashion brands they did a little fashion reinvention to give their customers more fashionable offerings.
The fall collection is based on 60s Paris. It was your standard working women wear with lot of Aline silhouettes. Many great pieces for us office drones. It was refreshing to see lots of colour. I was most impressed with the accessories and shoes that Ann Taylor had to offer.
I can’t talk about the upcoming Fall Winter 2012 – 2013 collections without mentioning one of my favourite labels, complexgeometries.
The NIGHT is what complexgeometries is calling the Fall Winter 2012 – 2013 collection. It references cultures of the night like skinheads, swingers, workmen and revelers. The collection conveys “the shadows and secrets that the day’s dark hours shroud.”
The lookbook was shot in Japan and I love the models! The female model’s makeup is perfect for this complexgeometries collection.
The little bursts of colour that were present in previous collections are gone and there is a heavy focus on black, grey, navy and white.
As usual, I want it all. Look for pieces of the collection to hit complexgeometries.net this month and beyond.
I haven’t added any new sunglasses to my collection this summer. It’s kinda making me depressed in a weird way. Karir Eyewear is bringing some great snakeskin Linda Farrow Luxe sunglasses to the store this upcoming fall.
The Linda Farrow Luxe collection features handmade sunglasses using high end materials like horn, leather, titanium and snakeskin.
The shapes are classic but the snakeskin makes them different from the rest.
My heart fills with Canadian pride when looking at the Line Knitwear and Root sweater collaboration. Line and Roots teamed up to create a capsule collection of four sweaters all based on iconic cities in Canada. The collection uses Line Knitwear’s top selling sweater styles with a bit of Roots Canadiana.
I’m a fan of all the styles and I think it’s fitting that Toronto’s is the most bland for some reason. I think it’s because I work in the financial district and all I see is shades of white, grey, navy and black. These sweaters will be available at Roots in the fall.
