Corsage Project 2010

Corsage Project 2010

I learned about the Corsage Project way to late last year to post about it or volunteer. This year I’m on top of my game and I’ve volunteered already. I don’t know why this organization struck a chord with me so much. I went to my prom (I was one of those sole prom goers) and didn’t think much of it. Although it was fun talking to the teaching staff hammered out of my tree. Despite my ambivalent feeling about prom I knew I wanted to help out. Mission To provide formal gowns and accessories, free of charge, to Toronto area high school girls who are unable to purchase their own prom attire. Background The Corsage Project was founded in 1999 as a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the Children’s Aid Foundation. The founders believe that every high school girl should have the opportunity to celebrate the milestone of her high school graduation with pride and in style. Students are identified through confidential referrals from school guidance counselors, Children’s Aid, youth, or social …

1st Annual FTA Design Forward Award

1st Annual FTA Design Forward Award is for eco fashion designers in Canada. The FTA decided to create the award in order to recognize the Canadian sustainable fashion designers. Each nominee was hand-selected by FTA based on a set of criteria that we developed. With the assistance of Mary Hanlon at Social Alterations, we were able to filter all the nominees through the criteria, resulting in the 14 we have chosen to feature for the Award. There are 14 nominees and the public is invited to review and vote for your favourite designer. Voting closes on April 16, 2010. The FTA created profiles on each designer to help you choose. Each of the profiles we created include images of the designs and how each nominee held up to our criteria. We also included our comments – what we like about each one of them, and where we think there is room for improvements. They will take the top three designers chosen by the public. Those winners will face a jury of recognized leaders in fashion …

Dr. Martens Spring 2010 - Diva

Dr. Martens Spring 2010 – Women’s

I went to the Spring 2010 preview for Dr. Martens. We got a look at the 50th anniversary options too. I didn’t bring my camera and took crappy Blackberry photos. They suck so I’m posting the pro stuff. I’m not a big fan of the Diva series. I know I’m not the norm because I’ve heard many positive things about them. Call me a traditionalist. The metallic Docs are hilarious. I think the electric blue are my favourite. So obnoxious. The Tec Tuff shoes have a white sole. They look and feel like canvas, breathable and water resistant. I really like the grommets on these boots. The Triumph boots are my favourite. I love how you can make them slouchy and expose the plaid or tie them up like regular Docs. They also have ribbon laces as well as regular laces. Dr. Martens are available in Toronto at Neon and Get Outside. images: Courtesy of Dr. Martens

Voices in American Fashion

Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum: Voices in American Fashion Washington Post Style Editor Robin Givhan, leads a conversation with past National Design Award Winners Francisco Costa (Women’s Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection), Yeohlee Teng, and Maria Cornejo about their work and the role of fashion in contemporary culture. Doc Martens turns 50

Doc Martens turns 50

50 years of Dr. Martens shoes. Everyone has their own story with Dr. Martens (if you don’t, you really should). My first pair were patent leather oxfords. I loved them to death and they were a major part of my “house uniform” in my early high school days. I soon moved on to the boots, increasing the number of holes and buckles. I had a brief period where I was Dr. Marten free but that changed with Final Fashion’s Docs (You can order the Final Fashion Docs online). Docs hold a special place in my heart. They were part of so much joy, angst and body surfing in my life. They are classics that will never go missing from my closet again. To celebrate their 50th Anniversary Dr. Martens are launching a commemorative limited edition footwear collection.  The collection consists of two styles – the iconic 8-eye 1460 boot and the classic 3-eye 1461 shoe, both of which are presented in Black and Cherry Red colours – those synonymous with the Dr. Martens brand.  The …

Fawn Boutique Spring 2010 Arrivals

Fawn Boutique Spring 2010 Arrivals

I visited Fawn Boutique on the same day I visited Chasse Gardée. I went crazy with the Olympus E-PL1 and took a bunch of pictures of the spring 2010 new arrivals. I talked to Kasha about the new items. She pointed out great pieces from newly acquired label SHIN, the Line Knitwear leather jackets, the new Complex Geometries and [Blank] denim. I was drooling over pretty much everything in the store. It’s my favourite store in Toronto and I love Kasha’s buying. She is such a great curator of clothing. I was wandering the streets with my friend Jaime Woo who captured some photos of me in Fawn . Fawn 967 Queen St W Toronto (647)334-4703

Hublot Depeche Mode Watches

Hublot Depeche Mode Watches

Way back in December I wrote a post called “I can’t wait to see the Hublot Depeche Mode Watches”. Luxury watchmaker Hublot is creating 12 “pop” versions of their very popular Big Bang series with one of my favourite bands, Depeche Mode. Each one of a kind watch will feature a different Depeche Mode album cover. They will be sold at auction with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust. There were no images of the Hublot Depeche Mode watches at the time and I was suppose to check back when the auction happen. I forgot and it’s taken me this long to follow up, ha ha. So here are the watches. My favourites are Music for the Masses and Sounds of the Universe. images: hublot.com, liveauctioneers.com

Chasse Gardee Spring 2010 Arrivals

Chasse Gardée Spring 2010 Arrivals

I stopped in to Chasse Gardee over the weekend. It was a nice day and I was taking the Olympus E-PL1 for a spin. Outside of a runway room I seem too be doing alright with the camera. There are a lot of new shoes in the store so I decided to go crazy with the camera and snap away. A Détacher” are some new additions. I love the lace up wedge sandals. I didn’t remember to make note of the boot brand.  They are beautiful.  A more modern version of the Frye boot.  A little sleeker. LD Tuttle has some amazing shoes.   I really like the ribbon effect and exposed zipper details.  The grey shoes are pretty special. I’m not a feather or fringe shoe person but the Tuttle’s are damn hot. The jewellery pictured is from Eliza who is Toronto based. After my Saturday shooting with the Olympus E-PL1, I’m in love. I don’t want to give it back, waaaa. 🙂 See all my photos from Chasse Gardee Chasse Gardée 1084 Queen Street …

Celine Spring Summer 2010 Army Jacket

i want: Celine Spring Summer 2010 Army Jacket

I was doing my regular rounds of Holt Renfrew Bloor Street with The Oracle a few weekends ago. We ran into Tommy Ton of JakandJil. I hadn’t seen Tommy since he started on his adventures during Men’s and Women’s fashion weeks so it was really good to catch up for a bit. I say this to everyone but Tommy is such a sweetheart. The highlight of our catching up was me playing model in Celine for Tommy. I know, it’s pretty lame but simple pleasure right. I’ve always looked, touched and drooled over the Celine pieces in Holts but never dared to try anything on.   With Tommy Ton present I had the perfect excuse. He had me try on two army jackets and I’m posting about the one I really, really love. The jacket is “the sex”. There is something about well made designer goods that just feel like a dream on. If I had to cash to drop on this jacket, I probably would do it in a heartbeat, look at the back of …

Balenciaga Ready to Wear - Fall 2010

Balenciaga Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Video (Full Show)

I found the full show video for the Balenciaga Ready to Wear – Fall Winter 2010 collection. The soundtrack is killer. This video is great for providing all the angles of the models so you can see the back details. The clothing has so much more depth with video. The construction is a lot clearer. There is a lot going on in the fall winter 2010 collection. Dazed Digital got a closer look at the collection. They have some great photos of the all the details. I also like the shots from Purple Magazine. images: style.com

Lotus Booties by Ash

i want: Lotus Booties by Ash

I’m in love with Ash’s Lotus Cutout Booties. They would be a fun shoe for spring/summer but I could see myself wearing them into the fall with tights. I heard that Holt Renfrew had the black version but they sold out. Boo.You can purchase them at Shopbop and Nordstrom. UPDATE(April 11, 2010): I saw them in Holts on the weekend. They are not sold out. I didn’t check the price too carefully but they are under $300 I believe. Other stores in Toronto that carry Ash are Balisi, Corbo, Holt Renfrew, Capezio and TNT.

Miu Miu Shoes – Fall Winter 2010 -2011

The shoes from the Miu Miu Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection are like nothing I’ve seen before.  I’m not sure what to make of the spats they have going on.  Are they part of the shoe?  I see that they are have Velcro and are removable. I think I prefer the shoes without the spats. These shoes are a little bizarre and I can’t see myself wearing them. What are your thoughts? images:style.com

Lanvin Accessories – Fall Winter 2010

Lanvin Accessories – Fall Winter 2010

I love the jewellery in the Lanvin Ready to Wear – Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection. My first thought was Klingons. For some reason the Lanvin fall winter 2010 jewellery gives me a Klingon’s vibe.  It seems to fit the warrior theme. I couldn’t get it out of my head so I asked The Grumpy Owl. He agreed and and sent me a picture of Gowron. Now I don’t feel that crazy. images: style.com and timelinestudio.com
