Parachute Short Dress by All Saints

i want: Parachute Short Dress by All Saints

Inspired by an original wartime parachute, this double layered cotton dress features 6 cotton ties to create a truly unique silhouette. The parachute dress comes complete with authentic raw cotton calico bag. I’m totally smitten with the Parachute Short Dress by All Saints. I love the volume of the skirt and the delicate neckline contrasting with the strings. images: us.allsaints.com

Rupert Sanderson x Aida

Rupert Sanderson x Aida

Rupert Sanderson created shoes for the cast of Verdi’s Aida at the Royal Opera in London. I love seeing fashion and costume design converge. It’s such a perfect fit. Rupert Sanderson has designed the shoes for a cast of over 200 working alongside illustrious young costume designer, Moritz Junge. The vision for the production is bold: Egypt is set aside for an unnamed post-apocalyptic tribal landscape where everything is very ‘brought-down’ and distressed. This has given Rupert great scope for designing an edgy, deconstructed collection of shoes. Boots will be worn out – Rupert is literally burying them in his back garden for two months to allow the mud and grit to do its worst. Sandals will be simple, using frayed materials with raw edges and a neutral or earthy colour palette. And against this ragged aesthetic, the bejeweled slippers and platform wedge sandals designed for the princess Amneris stand out like diamonds on a beach of pebbles. On collaborating with The Royal Opera, Rupert Sanderson says: The opportunity to delve into The Royal Opera’s …

Complexgeometries – Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

Complexgeometries Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

Yes, the Complexgeometries Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 looks are out. I’m always excited to see what Clayton comes up with season to season. I’m a big fan and I’m enjoying watching the evolution of shapes and fabrics. Fall 2010 looks great and I’m liking the sheer layers.  I love the grey tank wrap (middle look top photo) and I can see it easily being the next complex piece in my wardrobe. images: complexgeometries.com

John Lobb

Video – Bespoke Shoemaker John Lobb

The Grumpy Owl posted this wonderful video from The Guardian about Bespoke Shoemaker John Lobb. It’s a fascinating look at how shoes are made. At John Lobb, one of Britain’s last remaining bespoke shoemakers, little has changed since 1849. Perri Lewis unlocks the door to a lost world of craftsmanship. I also found another video about John Lobb that gives you a more detailed look at the shop image: johnlobb.com

Stillness at the Speed of Light - Chris Levine's 3D Portrait of Grace Jones

Stillness at the Speed of Light – Chris Levine’s 3D Portrait of Grace Jones

I would love to be in London to see these portraits of Grace Jones. Light, sound and Grace Jones: three unremitting forces of nature. Chris Levine, the latest in a line of artists to work with Jones (Andy Warhol and Keith Haring came before him), has brought the elements together in his 3D portrait series Stillness at the Speed of Light. “How was I going to make any evolutionary step forward in a line of some of the extraordinary iconic images of her—I did my best,” Levine confesses. After a two-decade, self-imposed exile from the recording studio, Grace Jones—disco diva, über-model, Bond girl, gay icon and stuff of Studio 54 legend—made a whirlwind return with the tour for her 2008 album, Hurricane. Levine, a ground-breaking light artist whose visceral work with laser beams has led to collaborations with Mario Testino and Hussein Chalayan was commissioned to work on the lighting following an introduction to Jones from master milliner, Philip Treacy. And it was a Swarovski crystal encrusted bowler hat by Treacy (one of his typically …

Dior Homme - The White Room

Dior Homme – The White Room

I like this moody short film for the Fall 2010 – 2011 Dior Homme collection. Kris Van Assche’s fall 2010 Dior Homme collection is a triumphant affirmation of the house’s aesthetic for the new decade: clean lines, translucent layers of fabric, deconstructionist touches and oversized silhouettes. Quietly iconoclastic, it’s a tempting and elegant proposition for men who have grown out of their skinny jeans. The standout piece of the collection is the floor-length trench, a deceptively light garment that undulated elegantly down the runway in Paris in June. Unveiled under a ring of fluorescent lights, accompanied by the Sisters of Mercy’s “Temple of Love,” the piece mixes bold 80s power dressing with the swaddled folds of fabric Van Assche had witnessed in Indian dress on a trip to the country last August. The collection’s sensuous feeling of movement provided the inspiration for today’s film, created to mark the occasion of Dior Homme’s first UK flagship, which opened this week in the Westfield Center, London. The entrancing vignette is styled by Robbie Spencer and directed by …

Marni x Current Elliot Fall 2010

New Photos – Marni x Current Elliot Fall 2010

In February, I posted about the Marni X Current Elliot denim collaboration. Marni and Current Elliot have teamed up for denim collaboration for Fall 2010. Marni designer, Consuelo Castiglioni, was given free reign to design denim that fit with the Marni aesthetic. This is her first denim line Dyes and washes span from light azure to indigo and from faded to saturated. A few styles will be sold with a black cotton belt that Castiglioni likes knotted as a ribbon. Other details include cloth borders, either press studded or piped in leather. Retail prices for the Marni-Current Elliott jeans range from $250 to $500 and will be carried in Marni stores starting in June. There are some new photos out of the collection from Dazed Digital and Nylon. High Snobette has posted an editorial shot that features the jeans in the May issue of Vogue.  I’m liking the styles I’ve posted here with my favourite being the dark denim style in the first picture.  Lucky Mag is reporting that prices will range from $182-$509 and …

Jefferson Hack on Fashion Media in The Era of Digital Beauty

I finally got a chance to view the The Business of Fashion Fashion Pioneers – Jefferson Hack on Fashion Media in The Era of Digital Beauty video. It’s a fascinating interview with Imran from BOF and Jefferson Hack (who is super cute). He’s got some interesting things to say.
