i want: Douglas Coupland x Roots

I like a few items of the Douglas Coupland x Roots collaboration.

The ROOTS X DOUGLAS COUPLAND collection includes apparel for women/men/children, accessories, leather goods, design items, furniture, limited editions, original art and a series of pop-up stores. This is the first time Douglas Coupland has designed fashion wearables. He is best known as the internationally best-selling author of “Generation X”, “JPod” and “Generation A”.

“For more than 10 years I’ve been intimately exploring what it means to be Canadian,” says Coupland. “This partnership with Roots is an amazing opportunity to keep that dialogue going with an even wider, more diverse audience.”

The theme created for the ROOTS X DOUGLAS COUPLAND collection is “Canada Goes Electric” and brings together Douglas Coupland’s recognizable perspective with the Roots reputation for quality goods and craftsmanship.

“For the first time in our history, we stepped back and left the design to an outside designer,” explains Don Green, Co-founder of Roots. “Visually the collection is strong but beyond that, Douglas Coupland has once again shown his trademark humour and brilliance in exploring a new medium, in this case fashion. He has put forth a hopeful and positive message about this great country of ours and the results are impressive.”

The Holy Grail is this duffle bag that I spotted on Lisa Tant’s twitpic stream. I can’t find it on the website so it must only be in the pop-up shops that are happening in Vancouver and Toronto until July 24th. The collection will be available to all stores after the 24th.

EDIT: I found out details about the Toronto Pop up Shop
Toronto Location: 680 Queen Street West
Date: July 8th until July 25th
Open: Thursday through Sunday
Hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 11am-7pm, Sunday 12pm-6pm.

Givenchy Haute Couture – Fall 2010

Givenchy Haute Couture - Fall 2010

It’s hard to comment on something so perfect. What words can express the tear enducing beauty of the collection. Some of the garments took 1600 hours to produce. Can you imagine the furiously busy women and men in the atilier creating these garments? They must be extremely proud they must be of their work. A documentary NEEDS to be made about the House of Givenchy’s couture division. Riccardo Tisci and his team are 21st century couture gods.

Givenchy Haute Couture - Fall 2010

There was no runway show this season and I have to admit I liked it better. The photos that are out their already are amazing. There are photos with the clothing on models and on judys. I like the differences the human form and judy show off in pictures. Nowfashion.com has some great shots of the shoes and boots. They go from the fairly simple sandal to crazy ornate open toed boot. I can’t wait to see more of this collection in the wild.

You really need to see the high resolution shots available on style.com and vogue.uk.com.

geekiviews: The Red Door

The Red Door

The Red Door provides foot massages for men and women. It operates out of the Che Bella Spa every Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 7 and 11 p.m. I missed the opening launch party for Red Door so rock-it promo provided me with a complementary couples treatment. I brought Danielle from Final Fashion and I learned that this was her first trip to a spa.

Massage therapists provide the treatment. It’s 45 minutes long and includes a hot foot soak and massage of feet and legs. Prices are $55 per person, $100 per couple and $185 for a group of four.

Che Bella Spa is in an old Victorian home. The space definitely has that homey and welcoming feeling. There are three treatment rooms available. Danielle and I had the attic like room upstairs that is totally private. It’s perfect for couples with the shared couch and quite tranquil.   Televisions are available for watching but we kept it off. When I’m at the spa I like to relax and focus on myself and the treatment. It’s my mediation break and I loved that the therapists weren’t chatty.  Beverages and mini cookies were available to snack on during the treatment.

The treatment itself was divine. Danielle and I visited on a Friday evening. It had been a heavy week of standing in 4 inch heels for me and this massage was the perfect remedy. My legs and feet felt great afterwards, like the days before never happened. I can see myself booking an appointment at the end of an event heavy week to give my feet and legs some pampering.  Of course, The Red Door has gift giving written all over it, who wouldn’t love a foot and leg massage.

i want: Alejandro Ingelmo Fall Winter 2010 Boots

Alejandro Ingelmo is an American shoe designer who studied at Parsons. Shoe making is in his blood and he expanded his great grandfather’s brand, Ingelmo Shoes.

I covet these shoes mostly because of the towering platform. They both have an 1.5 inch internal platform. I’m always looking to get higher. They are sleek and sexy though too.
