First Victoria’s Secret PINK launched in Canada and now Victoria’s Secret, the big shebang, is coming to West Edmonton Mall and Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto.

It will be interesting to check out Victoria’s Secret in person. I’ve never visited the store on my visits to the site. I used to receive the catalogue for a few years but I never ordered anything. I know people who swear by this store so my interest is definitely peaking.

Burberry Prorsum Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Shoes

I really enjoyed the Burberry Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection. There was lots of shearling, huge collars and aviation influence. It was a coat lovers dream: cropped, long, oversized and sleek. The clothing definitely took a back seat.

Burberry Fall Winter 2010 - 2011 Shoes

Burberry Prorsum continued with their “clunky stompers” footware trend juxtaposed with sleek boots. Rugged shearling lined boots with multiple buckles are transformed with a stiletto.   They came in various heights too.

A stark contrast to the clunky stompers were sleek thigh high boots in leather and reptile skin.

I like the shearling boots.  What do you think?  The ankle boot version is my favourite.  I think a flat version of the knee-high version would be amazing for fall.  The models in the show aren’t having problems walking in them so I’m assuming they aren’t too heavy.  There is a lot of stomping though.  Check out the full Burberry Prorsum Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 womenswear show.

Chanel Rouge Coco Launch at Holt Renfrew

I saw something pretty cool at the Chanel Rouge Coco Launch at Holt Renfrew.

CHANEL introduces a modern interpretation of classic creme lip colour as an homage to the rich life and legacy of ‘Coco’ Chanel. New lightweight lip colour glides on for easy application, and features a Hydratendre complex to help soften, soothe and condition lips – even boosting their ability to hold in moisture – for a plumper, smoother and healthier-looking appearance. A range of wearable shades with full-coverage finishes, from matte to pearl to soft shimmer

So Chanel was launching this new lipstick line called Chanel Rouge Coco. Part of the festivities was an artist who was painting with Rouge Coco lipstick. It was amazing.

I didn’t try out Rouge Coco. I’m a little intrigued though, perhaps I can find a red lipstick that works for me.

Corsage Project 2010

Corsage Project 2010

I learned about the Corsage Project way to late last year to post about it or volunteer. This year I’m on top of my game and I’ve volunteered already. I don’t know why this organization struck a chord with me so much. I went to my prom (I was one of those sole prom goers) and didn’t think much of it. Although it was fun talking to the teaching staff hammered out of my tree. Despite my ambivalent feeling about prom I knew I wanted to help out.

Mission
To provide formal gowns and accessories, free of charge, to Toronto area high school girls who are unable to purchase their own prom attire.

Background
The Corsage Project was founded in 1999 as a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the Children’s Aid Foundation. The founders believe that every high school girl should have the opportunity to celebrate the milestone of her high school graduation with pride and in style.

Students are identified through confidential referrals from school guidance counselors, Children’s Aid, youth, or social workers. Girls who are referred are formally invited to attend a ‘Boutique Ball’ in May where, assisted by a personal shopper, they select a gown of their choice, and shoes and accessories to match. This special day includes a make-up and hair consultation, a professional portrait, refreshments, and goodie bags.

Thanks to the dedication of our team, volunteers, community & corporate sponsors, we are now able to help 250 girls in the Greater Toronto area.

CORSAGE GIRLS
Are you Eligible?
You may be eligible for a free gown and accessories from The Corsage Project for prom night 2010. Check and see:

* You must be enrolled in a GTA high school and expect to graduate in the Spring of 2010.
* You will need to ask someone in your community (teacher, guidance counsellor, Children’s Aid worker, etc.) to act as your sponsor and put us in touch with you.
* You will need to provide us with your name and a way to get in touch with you.* Please note that the Boutique Ball is not open to the public or media and your privacy will be ensured.

You can apply to be a Corsage Girl on the Corsage Project website. They are still looking for Corporate Sponsorship for The Boutique Ball on Sunday, May 2, 2010. If you aren’t a corporation and still want to help out, you can make a donation to The Corsage Project.

1st Annual FTA Design Forward Award

Thieves Ecotone body suit - One of the FTA Design Forward Award Nominees

1st Annual FTA Design Forward Award is for eco fashion designers in Canada. The FTA decided to create the award in order to recognize the Canadian sustainable fashion designers.

Each nominee was hand-selected by FTA based on a set of criteria that we developed. With the assistance of Mary Hanlon at Social Alterations, we were able to filter all the nominees through the criteria, resulting in the 14 we have chosen to feature for the Award.

There are 14 nominees and the public is invited to review and vote for your favourite designer. Voting closes on April 16, 2010. The FTA created profiles on each designer to help you choose.

Each of the profiles we created include images of the designs and how each nominee held up to our criteria. We also included our comments – what we like about each one of them, and where we think there is room for improvements.

They will take the top three designers chosen by the public. Those winners will face a jury of recognized leaders in fashion and corporate sustainability.

The nominees are:
Thieves
Elladora
Elroy
Paper People Clothing
Laura Chenoweth
Revolve Clothing Co.
Nicole Bridger
Salts Organic
Preloved
Lav & Kush
deux fm
