i want: Sporty SpinTO Style – Male Model Edition

So, I planned to do an “i want” post around SpinTO when I signed on as a media sponsor. Initially, it was going to be a menswear and womenswear post, but I decided to make it all about me. The i want: Sporty SpinTO Style post went over well. Well the boys want their own post now. So this is the Male version of i want: Sporty SpinTO Style aka the Male Model Edition.

SpinTO - Solid Gold. May 15, 2009. Get your tickets Now!

We can’t have a sporty style post without Canadian boys, DSquared2. This is the bread and butter.

Sporty SpinTO Style - Male Model Edition Dsquared2

This is for the daring man. While the more modest can get into the Solid Gold them with these little gold shorts.

Of course, Dolce & Gabbana, you can’t do sporty without them.

These short shorts for men are perfectly acceptable to me 🙂

To round out the list we need Mr. Roberto Cavalli, which should inspire men looking to wear swimsuits.

So, this is my idealized version of male Sporty SpinTO Style. There is no corresponding bicycle short trend in menswear right now. The closest is the short shorts, which I like with the right set of legs. What will you be wearing at SpinTO guys? Get your tickets.

SpinTO is a fundraising project that kicks off with a party on May 15 celebrating the 600 km Friends for Life Bike Rally from Toronto to Montreal in support of the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation.

This project will be lead by a community-media site at SpinTO.ca, a place where stories about the journey riders in the Rally will be told through new media including blogging and video podcasting. These stories will continue to be told well beyond the kick-off party leading up to the ride to Montreal taking place in July 26-31, 2009. SpinTO has been organized by a team of community contributors, led by Mark Kuznicki and Adam Schwabe, both riders in the 2009 Bike Rally.

Brunch at La Perlerie

Fruit Boat

I was invited to a unique brunch event at La Perlerie a bead boutique and flameworking studio in the west end of Toronto. It was a way for Susan Nagy, owner of La Perlerie to reach out to several tastemakers in the city and talk to us about what she does at the boutique.

Brunchers choosing their necklaces

La Perlerie bead boutique and flameworking studio features hand-made flameworked beads made in house, semi-precious stones, woods, resins, glass and Austrian crystal. They also do custom jewllery work where they work closely with the client to come up with the design for any occasion or use.

Susan has also launched her first collection of sculptural neckpieces using a combination of wireworking techniques and handmade glass beads.

La Perlerie also offers courses in Glass Beadmaking. Classes are taught by renowned Flameworking Artist and Jewellery Designer – Nadia Tasci. La Perlerie is working hand-in-hand with Sterling Silver Artist Karen Lamont of Citrus (www.citrussilver.com), to provide customers with a truly unique gift of a Sterling Silver Pendant, hand-stamped with words of the customer’s choosing.

La Perlerie necklace

During the brunch we were presented with a showcase full of necklaces and was told that there was one for each of us. We gathered around the showcase (very civilized too) and chose our necklaces. Karen then hand stamped words of our choosing on silver pendants to add to the necklace. I chose the words: Anita, I want – I got, geekigirl. They made sense as it represented the reason why I was at this lovely brunch and was receiving this beautiful necklace.

i want: Sporty SpinTO Style

I’m hear to talk style for the SpinTO party on May 15, 2009 (Friday!!!). I don’t have my outfit yet. I have a back up plan, that’s the gold plan. I have another idea, but it’s more sporty than gold. With an unlimited budget however my Sporty SpinTO party outfit would be amazing. So, I thought I would dream up an “i want” SpinTO style.

SpinTO - Solid Gold. May 15, 2009. Get your tickets Now!

My favourite pieces are from ThreeASFOUR

Three as four bodysuit - Sporty SpinTO Style

I’m head over heels for this catsuit. Paired with a sheer tunic or tank top, sigh!

Three as four - Sporty SpinTO Style

Of course there is the hotter than hell Alexander McQueen legging and top combo.

Eiffel Tower Top - Spring 2009

Eiffel Tower Leggings - Spring 2009

You can do it Prada Style.

I’m particularly fond of the yellow House of Holland bicycle shorts. I pair it with a nice white racerback tank.

Or Alexander Wang, who even showcased bicycle shorts in leather for Fall 2009. They aren’t pictured because they are kinda ugly.

SpinTO is a perfect event to showcase the bike short trend that has been gaining strength throughout the last few seasons. My choices are from Resort 2009 through Fall 2009. Here are a few examples of websites talking up the bike short trend: Style Bubble: Cycling into Spring and The Coveted: The Return of The Bicycle Short?.

It’s safe to say whatever I’ll be wearing on Friday it will be tight. I hope to see you there. Get your tickets now.

Brose Fall 2009 - 2010 Preview - Feathers

I heard of Brose through a Globe and Mail Style Council mailing list and have been salivating ever since. Remember, I need more feathers in my life.

Brose Fall 2009 - 2010 Preview

Brose is a very romantic line; think ballerina shapes, feathers, velvet and ruffles. There is some more tailored pieces that reminded me of Calvin Klein or Jil Sander, very modern with clean, straight lines. The fabrics are incredible quality and the construction is fantastic (Canadian made baby).

Brose Fall 2009 - 2010 Preview - Marika and Allison

Marika Brose is a graduate of ESDOM Paris and FIT. She has worked at Chloe and Pink Tartan as a designer; had stints as a buyer for Bloomingdale’s, Armani Exchange and The Bay and rounded out her experience in marketing at Holt Renfrew and Prada. She knows the business inside and out.

Brose Fall 2009 - 2010 Preview - Marika and Allison

I loved a lot of the collection. I felt the velvet was best as skirts. Some of the dresses had some serious boning to them. One dress could stand up on it’s own. I loved it.

Brose is available at Holt Renfrew and jacflash. Special orders can be placed through Marika on the Brose website.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Launch at Jezebel

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer - Alison Joe and MJ

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer held it’s launch last week at the new club, Jezebel. I attended to because I’m always interested in getting myself into Jezebel and see some fashion friends that would be in attendance. This year Joe Fresh Style is selling the shirts for $12 at all Joe Fresh locations.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer - Amanda and Kristin

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) began as the fashion industry’s response to breast cancer – a widely recognized effort that raises public awareness and funds to support breast cancer research, education and patient care. Inspired by Ralph Lauren in memory of his late friend Nina Hyde, The Washington Post columnist who died of breast cancer, the campaign centres around the sale of Target apparel reminding women to “target” their breast health. The target has been worn by such fashion icons as Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Helena Christensen.

Since its launch, FTBC has become the worldwide fashion community’s singular and most successful response to breast cancer. This incredibly simple and powerful awareness campaign has raised over $1.4 million in Canada alone over the past 8 years. Rethink Breast Cancer is the organization and inspiration behind FTBC Canada.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer - The girls give us a show

Since Jezebel is a burlesque bar we were treated to a few dances. The girls were okay but they were no Dita. I think the concept of the bar is cute and I’m hoping that there are dancers in Toronto that will make us stand up and take notice.

Louise Goldin Unravelled

Louise Goldin Unravelled

Louise Goldin Unravelled is a great video series that covered Louis Goldin’s Fall Winter 2009 – 2010 collection. It goes from conception to show and it’s fascinating.

Working backwards from Louise Goldin’s show at London Fashion Week in February 2009, Unravelled reveals every facet in the development of her Autumn/Winter 2009 collection, deconstructing her creative process through ten weekly episodes. Recording months of work and featuring extensive in-depth interviews and intimate footage from her studio and factories in Milan – much shot by Goldin herself – Unravelled pulls Louise Goldin’s experimental and innovative work apart at its seams, offering unique access inside the creativity one of fashion’s most exciting new talents.
